As is expected, Sam and Company sell pens, notebooks, printer paper, craft supplies, card board, red packets, greeting cards, as well as some rather random items like inflatable Hello Kittys, paper lanterns, plastic fruit and footballs. In fact, so good is the stock in there, that when I was recently looking for a non-self inking customisable 6 digit number stamp - yep, that specific, and had already flustered most as though I had asked for a left handed mug, the lovely owner/sales lady didn't bat an eyelid and just asked what size. I kid you not, she had an entire box of non-self inking customisable 6 digit number stamps. The point to the story is that Sam and Company have a lot of stuff. It's on shelves, piled on the floor, hanging off the ceilings, nine out of ten they will have what you are looking for (unless it is the aforementioned left handed mug). If you don't see what you want, ask the staff, there is so much more stuff secreted away behind the counter or out back. My only grumble is the staff can be a bit pushy. If the product you want isn't quite right, they get a bit shirty if you don't to buy. They also follow you around the store, but maybe that's just me and my dodgy looks? A definite must for anyone who needs anything craft or stationery.

The store is clean and organized and there are plenty of employees around but do not pressure you to buy. I came into the store to just browse, but walked out with some beauty products that I think are slightly cheaper than what you might find at Sasa. It's a great store to find small gift items and greeting cards, they even offer snacks and drinks from around the world.

The store where it had been purchased was not really helpful, as they were not providing pictures of what I was seeking. Plus there were communication difficulties as well. However, Ellis was terrific in every way!!! They took the few pictures I was able to provide and designed a ring that looked almost exactly like the one that had been lost. They provided a reasonable price estimate, and then, after the ring was finished, actually charged me less than the full estimate, as it weighed a little less than they had expected--i.e., they went above and beyond to be completely honest. They waited to ship, per my instructions, and then the ring was shipped promptly and arrived quickly, after some customs paperwork. The ring is gorgeous, exactly what was wanted! This company was helpful, talented, and honest--should be at the top of everyone's list!!! I wouldn't hesitate to buy there again, and I hope to get to the store sometime too as I'm sure it would be a great place to shop in person.

However,…read moreif you want to get away from the chain store monstrosities selling solid gold sculptures of winged horses riding waves, but don't want to go as contemporary cool as platinum "art" stones the size of tennis balls, you can get your jewellery custom made. And for that, I can recommend only one place - Ellis in Wan Chai. Ellis Jewellery, named after the owner Ellis - quite possibly the nicest man in HK, sells a great number of standard pieces, from engagement rings, chains and necklaces, charms, cufflinks, you get the idea! However, Ellis' real talent comes in custom crafting jewellery from your ideas. What I mean by this is, you can take Ellis a sketch for a piece of jewellery, and he will translate your cigarette packet doodle into a practical, long lasting pice of art. He will also do all of this for a very reasonable cost compared to the big boys. Where on Earth can one get a one off custom piece for less than the production models that come in 20,000 piece runs? Ellis, that's where! I find buying from Ellis very refreshing, especially his very honest and trustworthy approach. A lot of businesses will try to up-sell, but not Ellis. I wanted to buy an item in platinum, but was actually told to have the piece made in silver as the more malleable metal would have given the item a longer life. The silver was about one tenth of the cost of the platinum, and though he lost out on a huge payday, Ellis' advice was completely right. He is also completely upfront with timescales. If your design takes four days to make, it will take four days to make. Not two days then "so sorry, come back in two more days". This makes him a hit with the tourists who are passing through, as well as those of us who leave shopping for an anniversary just that little bit too late! So if you are thinking of getting down on one knee, or wanting to to get something for a loved one, I thoroughly recommend Ellis. Committing your design ideas to reality is hard enough, but with Ellis guiding you, you will not be disappointed. And nor will that special someone!

To be honest, I can't think of a similar place in Singapore that compares, and that is also in an affordable price range like Homeless is. This probably explains why my husband and I ended up buying one of those funky looking dusters, a pretty picture frame, and a moosehead-shaped cutting board (that's right- I found a moose in Hong Kong!) I wouldn't put this store on your must-visit list, especially if you're not in the market for home goods, but considering I can't find similar styles in Singapore and prices are a good here, a visit to Homeless is always welcome!

Well given the vibe and hipster-ness on Gough Street, Homeless certainly has its fame. Everyone loves spending some time here woo-ing the design of things they have. It's a shame I'm a strong believer of "Form follows Function", and overwhelming designs are just not my thing. Also, whenever you buy your first item here... it's so great it would definitely stands out at your apartment. And the only logical solution is... buy more. Make your house like a designer's house. Ops. Before you know it, you now have a dozen different expensive and useless decors at home. So yeah, the a few times I wasn't window shopping, I came here and looked for specific items. The staff were so chilled that they didn't seem to care about if you got what you wanted to buy (imagine the opposite of the "shadow-sales" at SaSa). I wanted a box. Wooden, metal, jewelry box, don't care. Staff showed me the only two "boxes" they had. Of course they were designer boxes and didn't quite serve the purpose of being a box. The appropriately termed B.O.B or Bears On Bikes got us looking and eventually buying shirts for everybody in the family. Truthfully, it had been a long time since I had been in a store like this. It reminded me of a sort of step down from a J. Crew. Straight up, most of my stuff is purchased online or at a non-mall type shop, so it was actually a bit out of my zone. Nonetheless, we walked out of there with 5 matching shirt that we ended up wearing on the plane a few days later. Bear on bike has worked itself into my rotation, and ultimately we were happy to have ended up at the spot. If you walk by it, it is probably worth going into!

There are many stationery stores around Hong Kong because, let's face it, they are an essential part of our lives. But not all stationery stores sell every bit of stationery, so I've come to realize. Some sell paper but no ink, others sell everything except envelops. It's a real source of frustration. Reliance Stationery Centre's name tells you that whatever you need you can rely on finding it here. That is to say, everything that I've needed I've found here, anyway. The bottom floor is big in its own right but there's even an upstairs to is as well with even more stationery. I walked in looking for stickers, which I found within 3 minutes, and I walked out with a whole bag of other stuff. A couple pens (why not?), a world map - something I've been looking for for quite some time, and a business card holder. I did not check if they provided printing services, if I had noticed that it would easily be given a five star rating. It's also in a very accessible location between central and Sheung Wan, closer to Sheung Wan, so picking up something between lunch breaks is an option. The morale of the story is that the next time you are fretting because you're missing a pen, printer cartridge, stamp collection folder, world map or some such you now know where you're most likely to find it.

Our family always stop through here to pick up any birthday, anniversary or wedding presents whenever we are in Hong Kong. You can get beautifulstrands of pearls, earrings and pearl rings all at incredibly reasonable prices. I bought myself a single pearl pendant, and hae brought back several strands as birthday gifts for friends and relatives. I highly recommend it!
