However, the pieces on sale are often fantastic and no one need know that they are from 'off the back of a truck'. Snap up (questionably sourced) Chanel jackets, Chloe blouses, Gucci dresses and Alexander McQueen clutches for a fraction of the store price. Dresses are usually around the $600 mark with knitted and leather goods a little pricier. Speaking of which, the winter knits and leathers are divine but frustratingly on sale in the high heat of summer and rarely in winter. The rule of thumb here is if you want it but it on the spot as the boutique stocks only a few of each item and you can bet it will not be there the next time you swing by. Be prepared to put on a balancing act when it comes to the fitting rooms but don't be put off - the prices are reasonable considering you're buying 'designer'. They also accept EPS and can (sometimes) order in additional sizes if you're willing to commit to the purchase once it arrives. Watch out for small details like patterns running in opposite directions between panels on dresses etc.

This is where clothing manufacturers come and choose the actual stuff that make their designs a reality. Fortunately, you can also but 'retail' ie, not bulk, and make your own design dreams come true. In my particular case, I want a calf length, cream leather coat.  I took along the black woollen coat I intend to model said garment on and headed off in search of the leather to make it happen. Fortunately, I found Yuen Kee Leather Goods. The staff were a bit surprised by the scale of my project, but recommended a tailor and even called in advance to make sure it was all doable and that they we selling me the right amount of leather (at least I assume that's what they were talking about). That's one of the problems with shopping in Shan Shui Po generally, many of the vendors - especially the street stalls- don't really 'do' English, so you are relying on holding up fingers to indicate yard length. Needless to say, with the complexity of this particular project I was very happy to encounter good spoken English. Highly ironic as I am having real trouble with the shop's business card .....

Here you can find ribbons, trimmings and embellishments, but also gift boxes and embroidery hoops. Cross stich patterns and fake flowers. I walked out with almost 200 yards of ribbon for a little (a very little) over HKD50 - bargain! Like all shops in SSP, Tak Cheung Co obviously understands the value of a good business card - you WILL need help to find the same store twice. But theirs is one of the most helpful I've collected on many visits to the area. In fact, it's the one I present to taxi drivers whenever I go to SSP, just so I know where I am when I start and can orientate myself for the rest of the expedition, kind of. Of course one then has to pop in to the store to see what's on offer ... It would be rude not to.

I purchased two suits with two trousers each, plus seven shirts. I had a second fitting, but I could not meet for the final fitting due to time constraints. Gill shipped the suits and shirts to my Dallas TX home and he kept me updated via email throughout the custom tailoring and shipping lifecycle. Everything arrived in excellent shape and fit well except for the trousers. I had some minor adjustments made to the trousers, and in exchange for my inconvenience, Gill shipped an eighth shirt to me. I highly recommend this tailor. Excellent quality and customer service. I always felt that Gill was going to do all that he could for me to have a great experience.

You're not going to find any products here containing harmful chemicals or other substances that are going to agitate the more sensitive areas of your body, and, to that end, they carry a decent range of organic products. Also, Showtime is apparently one of the few places in Hong Kong that sells condoms for "western" sized men. The store clerk was extremely helpful and professional when answering my questions. Not once did I get an "I'm totally creeped out by this place" vibe, which tends to happen in establishments like this. When the need arises, I will be back.

There was a line but it moved pretty quick. The boutique had two levels so there is a good selection. Cherry Fu was our advisor and she was incredible. She knew what items I was talking about and brought them out and a ton of other similar styles for us to choose from. What blew me away was her bringing out so many items all at once and letting us have our pick. A lot of boutiques literally bring out one item at a time and then quickly tuck it back in the drawers/inventory. She was friendly, knowledgble, and gave her own thoughts on the items and never once did it feel pushy. It was refreshing having an advisor like this! The store is beautiful and offers a wide array of different items, from clothing to arts and crafts and jewelry. Everything is made in Hong Kong and we loved the idea of buying something that is not mass-produced. I got some hair tube wraps, a t-shirt and some jewelry: prices are on the expensive end but I got very quality, unique items that I did not see anywhere else during my stay so all in all, it was a good trade.
