Beautiful facility with some interesting exhibits. Be prepared to use your phone to translate…read moreexhibit explanations because almost everything is in Spanish only. Nonetheless, if you love history or archeology, this is a must see museum in Merida. At times the museum allows private events, and we were able to attend a reception during a private event. We enjoyed live classical music while we sipped wine on the upper terrace on a beautiful February evening. If you are able to attend a private event at the museum, do so! Overall cleanliness: excellent Bathroom cleanliness: above average

It dates from 1540 and was the house of Francisco de Montejo the Younger (in Spanish "El Mozo" - the Younger). It might be the oldest building in Mérida. Although the house was rebuilt in 1850, there are many original furnishings and direct descendants of the Montejo family lived here until 1978. Four rooms (a dining room, a living room, an office and a bedroom) house a permanent exhibition of furnishings from the historic building. There is a small room that shows a short film about the history of the house, which I found really interesting and informative (in Spanish with English subtitles) and a few rooms that house temporary art exhibitions. A bank bought the building and renovated it to open it as a museum. It's free to visit, so well worth exploring! The exterior and the interior are both incredibly beautiful. I'm glad we visited it on our first afternoon in Merida last week. It - with the cathedral and the palacio on the other sides of the Plaza Grande - really helped provide me with a historical context to understand more Yucatecan and Mayan history relevant for the rest of our trip!

There's an amphitheater with a watery cave and reflection pool that beckons an audience. Definitely take some time before or after your meal to look around. The meal itself was fairly average food. Decent taste and decent service. I think it's more of the ambience that makes it a reason for coming here, although I don't think there are too many options in this area. The tamales de pollo were average but I think the puc-chok was more tasty. They offer chips and salsa which went quick because we were so hungry. It can accommodate large groups so I imagine tour groups must stop by here. Luckily no huge crowds around when we were there, but plenty of other small groups of people enjoying their meal.

The grounds are beautiful with fountains, well-groomed gardens, walking paths, and even a small museum and gift shop. The food, however, left room for improvement. The chips and salsa were excellent, but also the best part of the meal. Be careful though, habañero salsa is hot! I was served a chicken drumstick and a back, which together did not have a lot of meat. The flan for dessert was a bit bland. Overall, great location, mediocre food.
