Steve was Amazing. I Received so many compliments on how great of an MC he was! He honestly kept everyone dancing the whole night- the floor was very alive. Steve kept everything on track that I didn't even need programs! We met twice in person at his studio and corresponded the rest of the time threw email. There are 3 things that really stood out to me that made Steve different, unique, and more fun! The first one was he introduced us to the "Social media minute" during our ceremony. We had a unplugged ceremony so this was our guests one minute to take any type of picture they wanted, selfies, go pro, selfie stick... anything goes. Our guests LOvEd it ! Everyone got into it and moved around a got all the gitters out before we started saying all the gushy stuff. The 2nd was "Money Dance" competition. He had the bridesmaids on one team and groomsmen on the other and while eddie and I danced with guests they went out to get money from the crowd. It was a really cool take on the dance Vs. getting money pinned on our dress and suit. The losing team had to dance to the Macarena at the end. Which I don't think they thought was much of a punishment because other people started dancing with them ! And the 3rd - my husband and I wanted to include everyone in the usual bouquet/garter toss- so Steve suggested that we do it for luck! I also didn't want a garter so he suggested throwing something that was lucky to us... and we all thought together and decided on our chihuahua. We couldn't throw a real dog so we had a pillow made that looked like him and it was a hit! Everyone wanted to catch it. We could not be happier that we chose Function 45 Event Entertainment, specifically Steve (and his wife Tanya) to emcee and DJ our wedding. Before ours, we had never been to a wedding with a DJ/emcee; we had only seen couples use bands or iPods. We chose a DJ because it was the cheaper option, but after working with Steve, we're convinced it was the best option. Originally, we planned to talk to 2 or 3 DJs before making our decision. After speaking with Steve over the phone, however, we decided that we couldn't possibly find anyone better; we canceled the other interview and chose Function 45. We were unable to meet in person because my husband and I were in living in DC and planning our California wedding from a distance until we moved West. Steve is so much more than a DJ! He has a great voice and is an outstanding conversationalist. He's also one of the nicest and most talented people I have ever met. Because he was emceeing our wedding and would inevitably be talking about us, he made it a point to get to know us. He drove from Orangevale to Sacramento and met us for dinner just to get a feel of our style. Then, about a month before the wedding, we met with him at his office and talked about the event. He gave us several fantastic ideas about how to get guests involved in the wedding reception so that they would be participating instead of just watching the action. Event though Steve had tons of suggestions culled from his prior experiences, he never took it personally when we decided against one of his ideas. He's very respectful; he always defers to you and emphasizes that the couple should choose songs that mean something to them. I wanted to walk down the aisle to the piano introduction of a specific song and he worked with us to create a loop so that you wouldn't hear the beat drop. Steve plays AMAZING music. He chose songs that I forgot how much I loved! Seriously, I danced during our entire reception and only spoke to guests who would meet me on the dance floor. Our floor was always packed and many our guests commented that we had the best DJ/Emcee/Music they had ever heard at a wedding! Most of all, I didn't realize how much an emcee can set the mood and the tone. From the very beginning, he put a microphone on my husband's tuxedo so that guests could actually hear the ceremony. I hired Function 45 for the wedding of my daughter. Steve and his team were awesome! I am a veteran live sound engineer who is particular about the caliber of sound system components, and about the resulting sound quality. I was picky ahead of time about the loudspeaker models and the microphone, which are the most critical parts. The "Elvis" mic Steve rigged on a wireless stand was perfect. The speakers sounded great. Function 45 delivered all the quality that I expected, which was a lot! More than that, Steve drove the event forward with appropriate music selections and an understated style of master-of-ceremonies patter. He helped make things flow smoothly, even when parts of the wedding and reception did not go as planned. He had musical choices ready for the little ones who were running around, and a "Decades" sequence which got the gray-haired folks up on the floor to mix with everybody else. When choosing a DJ for your wedding, it's important to realize that this person can either make or break your day. Steve came HIGHLY recommended to us through family members and we instantly liked him since our first meeting. Steve does an amazing job of building repor with his clients and getting to the root of what you want your day to look like. He spent a lot of time with us finding out what was most important and helping to organize exactly how we wanted the night to go. One main goal that we had for our wedding was we didn't want anyone to want to leave early. We wanted to keep the party going till the very end and then be bummed that it was over. Steve was absolutely amazing at our wedding!! My husband and I first met him in August 2015 and were blown away by all of his ideas. It truly was so much more than just the music. Fast forward to a few weeks before our wedding when we broke down the details which was an even better experience than before. We knew our wedding was going to be fantastic. It wasn't just fun, it really was us. Knowing my husband was a sports fanatic, Steve incorporated sports in a fun way such as introducing our bridal party as athletes (the groomsmen died and went to heaven) and using a football signed by the bridal party for the garter throw. While in the process I was nearly tackled by the overly excited men in our wedding, it is one of the BEST pictures we have recieved. The winning groomsman gloated all evening long about catching it. I danced on the dance floor until the last second. My husband even had to ask Steve to extend the dancing a half hour for me. I can't even stop there. We rented a photo booth through Steve. I had not wanted one but my mother in law was dying for one and was willing to pay (pick your battles ladies!). Well this wasn't your usual photo booth. We didn't just get a couple of strips of photos people thought to give us. The next day when we brought Steve his final check, he gave us a thumb drive with ALL the pictures taken and EVERY video people filmed in the booth! He was very patient with me as I had a long list of must play music and an even longer list of DO NOT plays (this was my most important vendor as music is VERY important to me and fitting it in just right at our wedding was no easy task for him) :) I was overjoyed that he managed to fit in the music I wanted so much to hear at the biggest day of my life and I still remember hearing each song! Not only is he an amazing DJ but he was a fantastic MC - keeping the party going late into the night as we wanted, keeping the guests involved and on the dance floor and keeping us on schedule in order to fit everything in along with a few tricks up his sleeve for even more fun! He also has the most amazing first dance song surprise that I will not ruin here but it WILL make your guests cry (in the best way possible) and will be unforgettable - My guests are still talking about it - it was something no one had ever seen done before and truly a highlight of the evening! Steve also provided the up-lighting for the even and it was perfect - soft and romantic as I wanted until the party got underway and he was able to change the colors and turn it into a real dance party! Where to start? At the beginning I guess...We got Steve's info and glowing reccomendation from our wedding coordinator. When I first contacted Steve he was really interested in how we came to him and why. It was never about the sell and it was always about us. This is something that not all DJ's or people in the "wedding machine" get. When we met all together to go over details and logistics, Steve did not hesitate to make a trek to the bay area from Sacramento to go over every detail. This was a blessing because he provided the framework for the entre event that we didn't have before. He took copious notes and asked us how we wanted to personalize each aspect of the reception. It was fantastic. THe day of the event, Steve and his partner arrived on time with everything but the kitchen sink...but it might have been in the back of the trailer, not sure :) Anyway, wow...Steve has the gear and the know how and the desire to make your wedding special. He did just that for us. Sound for the ceremony, assistance with a slideshow that was a showstopper, and great lighting and MC skills. Steve was able to lead the evening with style, grace, and flexibility that made everything perfect. At the end of the night and the next day, people were telling us that it was the most fun wedding they had ever attended. We can't thank Steve enough for all of his hard work and efforts to make it that way for us and our guests. Jeff was our DJ for my wedding. He was awesome!! He had his ways of drawing the crowd out onto the dance floor and was able to keep the dancing going. Music was on point and everyone enjoyed it. My favorite part of probably the first dance song. They incorporated a voice overlay into our first song with out thoughts. We were not aware of each others comments until the song played at our first dance. It brought tears to my eyes. Steve was our MC for my wedding this weekend and I have nothing but great things to say about him! Our wedding was in a backyard and he even brought cordless microphones so the guests could hear everything during the cremony. The quality and sound of the music was amazing! He played a good amount of songs we had given him previously and also took requests from the guests which got everyone dancing. He had everything everyone requested available. When hiring a DJ, interview whomever you want but hire Steve at Function 45. He is simply the best and you WILL have people saying, "BEST WEDDING EVER!!!" Steve was the DJ for my son's wedding on 6/13/15 and he was amazing. I don't think I had ever appreciated the difference a great DJ could make until this wedding. During planning sessions, Steve gave great ideas and input, but also carefully listened to what my son and his fiancée envisioned for their day. His implementation of their music requests for the ceremony was provided in a beautiful way with seamless movement between songs. His sound system at the ceremony and the reception made it possible for everything to be heard easily by everyone. During the reception, he kept things moving so at no time were people just sitting around looking at their watches. In fact, I can't remember the last time I was at a wedding where almost everyone was still there at the last dance! Steve seems to have a fantastic philosophy that the wedding shouldn't be a spectator event with your guests watching a show, but rather a loving, supporting group of family and friends INVOLVED in the day. He had so many great ideas for all aspects of the reception. The unique ways he announced the wedding party into the reception, got tables up for the buffet line, 'auctioned' off the table markers, orchestrated the bouquet/garter tosses, brought EVERYBODY onto the dance floor, and created memorable first dances with the bride/groom, father/bride and mother/groom set the fun tone for the wedding. As if all that wasn't enough, Steve's company also provided a terrific photo booth. Again, I've been to other weddings with photo booths, but nothing like this. Steve's wife Tanya kept that running in a fun manner. The booth is LARGE with great props, and Tanya goes beyond the ordinary when putting together a book for the wedding couple. With all that, add in the beautiful up-lighting Steve provided and the classy presentation of all parts of his service. The final great thing: his cost is completely reasonable. Other DJs can simply play music for you and beg people to come out on the dance floor, but Steve is a master of ceremonies who knows his craft, knows how to create a memorable event for guests, and always remembers that the day was about the bride and groom. There aren't enough stars to give Steve and Tanya the amount of credit that is due! My husband and I got married in April, and to this day family and friends from all over are still talking about how amazing our special day was. When we first started planning our wedding, Steve was at a open house for the venue we had chosen to get married at. His energy and his personality are what really drove my husband and I to interview Function 45 as our possible MC/DJ for our wedding. First thing, my husband and I live in Vacaville and had an appointment to meet with Steve and his wife at 6:30 p.m. on a Friday (whoops). I called to let him know that we were running a little late, and he offered to grab us some food so we could have something to eat when we got there. I've never dealt with anyone in the event planning industry, but something told me that this wasn't something that everyone did. When we finally met with Steve and Tanya, it did not even feel like a meeting. It felt like just a few people hanging out and talking about weddings and music. My husband and I had a couple other DJ appointments lined up, but as soon as we pulled out of the parking lot we called Steve and told him that we want him and Tanya! We knew that there was no way we were going to get that comfortable and fun vibe from just anyone. These were people who truly enjoy what they do. Steve and his team are so experienced. They really have everything planned out from beginning to end with no gaps. The ceremony music was beautiful, the set up for the music equipment was very professional, you couldn't see chords anywhere! On top of it all, when Steve mic'd people for the ceremony you could hear it ALL. There was never a moment that all of our loved ones couldn't share with us because they couldn't hear. As many people have said before, Steve is more than a great DJ. He is the epitome of a Master of Ceremonies (Copied Chris M below because it was so perfect). I had family from out of town, out of state and out of country asking me if he travels for events (not kidding)! If you are worried about people not dancing at your event, that is no problem for Steve! EVERYONE was on the dance floor all night. I don't ever remember the dance floor being empty after our money dance. It was a blast, and I know it is all thanks to Steve and Function 45. There are a lot of entertainers out there that can play music and direct people and get through an event. But if you want someone to be apart of your event, get all of your guests engaged and really just have fun with your day, Function 45 is the DJ/MC for the job. I will never recommend another DJ to anyone I know that is having a big event or getting married. The minute I got engaged last year I booked with him right away because I know he is a popular guy. I was at a friend's wedding, and this is when I saw Steve in action.
