My advice: stop looking and book now!!! Steve is the best DJ, hands down. I have dreamt for him to be my wedding DJ ever since I met him at a friend's wedding 3 years ago. He blew me away at their wedding. He was so involved and so upbeat and unique. I never thought I would be able to afford him when it was time to book for my wedding. I called him to get a quote and ask questions and we talked for quite a while. On and off, I kept in contact with him. We would talk for an hour at a time. I could tell he really cared about me and making my wedding amazing. My husband and I met with him to go over details and we booked him right then and there. I talked so highly about him that my husband didn't have any doubts. It also helped that Steve was so friendly and helpful. I was sooooo incredibly excited! I knew we would have the most amazing night with Steve as our DJ. As our wedding day approached, we met with Steve for wedding day details and he took his time with us. He gave us advice and really got us excited. I could not wait for our guests to experience what Steve had to offer. I had some issues with my original coordinator on the night of our rehearsal and I immediately called Steve. He made me feel 100% better and calmed me down. I was on the verge of tears when I called. He reminded me that no matter what, our night would be perfect and that he would do everything he could to make sure of it. Our wedding truly was perfect. I owe so much to Steve. Although our guests were party animals, Steve made sure to keep it going all night long. He did so many unique things. Our bridal party grand entrance was so fun, we introduced them with "what you know and what you might not know" they even surprised us on our grand entrance. For the buffet line, our guests played bride and groom trivia to see who was next. I could go on and on about what I loved, but you will have to see for yourself. Wow where do I even begin, from the first meeting to the wedding, the DJ Steve and his lovely wife Tanya were amazing and the whole experience was more than I could have ever imagined. I have been to a lot of weddings and the DJ can make or break it. Steve's personality and talent, oh and his awesome 50s style microphone was perfect. We decided to hire Steve for our wedding entertainment after meeting him at a wedding open house. Our initial meeting I immediately felt comfortable with everything he was saying he did to liven up the party. You will never regret booking Steve! Steve is, hands down, the best wedding entertainment that I have experienced. And no, I am not saying that just because he did such an amazing job at our wedding, it is because I genuinely mean it. My husband and I have been married about 3 weeks now, and we have only continued to hear our guests rave about how great he was. He keeps the party going, gets everyone involved, the sound is amazing, and he, himself, puts you at ease at a time when you can be very stressed. He is that good! My husband and I only ever met with Steve, when we were considering who to hire for our wedding. At our first meeting, we met with him for like two or three hours - just chatting, getting to know each other, and enjoying the company. He very clearly explained his role in the wedding, and how it is that he helps the wedding to move along smoothly. We were very impressed with him and felt very comfortable with him, which is important. We did not decide right away, as we had 2 years to plan, but we never once considered another DJ/emcee. When planning with Steve, he was very clear with what he needed from us, what his plans were, and how things should go the day of. He has very clear visions, and is very successful in his execution. He has a thing called "social media moment," where people are able to come up and do selfies, or take any photos that they wish; at first, I was hesitant, but my husband was all about it. This was such a fun addition to our ceremony, and our guests got such a kick out of it! I highly recommend doing a social media moment! As the night proceeded, he communicated with the bridal party, the event coordinator at the venue, our catering staff, and our photographer so that he knew what was going on, what the timeline was, and how to direct our guests. He was very professional and friendly with everyone that he was in communication with. The music he chose to play was always the perfect choice! In particular this experience: My husband was a swim coach, and a few fellow coaches were in attendance, when that "jump on it song" came on at meets, they ALL danced. It didn't matter if they were across the pool, or right next to each other, if that song was on, the coaches were dancing. Steve played this song, and started the dancing with just my husband in the middle of a circle, and had him pull people in. During this, I was on my way to put my veil away, and immediately stopped to watch this dance take place. All the coaches were pulled in, they hit every move, and then the rest of the guests were inspired to dance as well. It was the PERFECT thing to do, and he had NO IDEA that there was history behind that song. Besides things like this throughout the night, there were some surprises mixed into our introduction. It was the perfect way to introduce my husband and I, but I don't want to give away all his secrets. =D I am telling, you I could go on and on and on about how great of a job Steve does! He is the ultimate package! The DJ/emcee can make or break a ceremony, and with Steve there is actually no chance of your event being a flop. I am so impressed with him! Steve is absolutely phenomenal! I cannot put into words what a great job he does. I have a musical background, so technically speaking, he knows his stuff. The sound quality of all the music was top notch, and there were speakers throughout the venue so no matter where my guests were, the could still hear what was going on. Another thing he did was kept the flow of the wedding going smoothly. There's nothing worse as a guest than to not know what's going on, and Steve made sure my guests were informed the entire time. They knew when to be seated, they knew when and where appetizers were at, when the cake cutting was, etc., etc. And the entire time, he played games so there was never a dull moment. In addition to this, the lighting he provides absolutely sets the mood. He had uplighting throughout my venue that made for such an amazing effect throughout the night. And the lights he has on the dance floor create such a fun environment. I have to say, however, my absolute favorite thing he did for us was create our first dance. He had my husband and me record messages to each other prior to the wedding that he masterfully incorporated into our first dance. We hadn't heard each other's message until that moment, and it had us both in tears. But we weren't alone. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. Everyone shared this special moment with us, and it is a memory I will cherish forever. I cannot recommend Steve highly enough. We got married in Sacramento last month and, at the recommendation of our venue, hired Steve as our DJ. We're so glad we did. As the other reviews on here indicate, Steve is extremely thorough in preparation. We spoke to him at least three times before the wedding, so by the time the big day came around we knew we were in good hands. The thing I liked most about dealing with Steve was how he listened to the sort of event we wanted, and then made suggestions to help us achieve that. Some of these I wasn't so sure about, but they all worked out great and really kept the guests involved. We particularly liked the Social Media Minute, where guests could move about and take pictures however they wanted for a minute before the ceremony started, and the top ten list, where Steve asked the guests to write down answers to a question over dinner and then he read out the best ten answers later in the evening. If you are looking for the best MC for your wedding Steve is it! Steve made our wedding fun, kept the energy level up, and most of all made the night memorable for everyone! He knows how to keep everyone engaged from the beginning of the ceremony until the last song. Steve was in contact with us many times before our wedding and helped so much with the selection of our ceremony music. He knew what would keep people having fun and engaged, he really knew how to make our wedding a celebration! We had guests from age 16 to my 88-year-old grandpa. I wish I could put into words how awesome Steve from Function 45 was at our 5/31/13 wedding. He absolutely is the one professional I hired who MADE the wedding. It has been two months and we are still getting told that our wedding was the most fun our guests have ever had at a wedding and I attribute most of that to Steve, who ran the show. He didn't just play music. He made it interactive and fun for us and our guests. He had SO many unique, fun and totally unexpected ideas that we and our guests loved. His ideas made our wedding much more memorable and fun. After the first meeting with Steve, my husband and I knew that he really knows his stuff and how to create an awesome party. Steve did the music for our ceremony, which went perfectly. But the reception is where all the magic happened. It started with the hilarious introductions for our bridal party, Steve's idea, which had people cracking up. And then he asked our guests to sing us a song with the word love or kiss in it in order to be excused to the buffet line. This was not only something I have never seen before, but it was so funny and the guests had a great time. Plus it helped people get to know everyone at their table better. After we finished dinner, we did all the traditional wedding "events", which by the way Steve made way more fun than traditional DJ's, especially the garter toss. Steve then somehow got everyone out on the dance floor, which stayed packed all night. My brother, who warned me that he wouldn't be dancing, was out on the floor tearing it up telling me "I am having so much fun!!" His wife and I were shocked! Steve also did the lighting for our reception, which turned out SO beautiful. We did blue up lighting around the room and it really made it look so romantic. I just got my photographs back and the pictures I have of our cake with the spot lights are amazing. He knows how to light everything perfectly. You can tell he has been doing this forever! If you are looking for a DJ/MC for your wedding, seriously look no further. He was worth every penny. Take the advice that someone gave me...if you are looking for ways to cut your budget, and perhaps hire a friend or someone cheaper, don't do it with the DJ. They were so right! My husband lost his voice the next morning, my dancing legs were super sore, friends and family 3 years after our wedding reception still say that our wedding was the best wedding they had ever attended. I have no doubt that our wedding was as much fun as it was due to Steve and his MC skills. It was really important to us that all our guests young and old had fun and were on the dance floor at least once during the evening. He was able to interact with the guests in a fun yet professional manner. Some guests thought he talked too much, but I think they were just used to having a DJ at their events, and not an MC. Anyone can play a song, it takes a special personility to get a group hyped and keep the event flowing. It takes experience to have good timing and to know when to throw in that impromptu game. I wanted something for everyone. We included the kids by playing some games, we had big group dances, and we still had enough time to have an open dance floor for a good amount of time. I was referred to Steve by a gal who had wonderful things to say! "he was the best!". "he made my wedding!", she couldn't say enough good things about him and urged me to contact function 45. Considering the fact that she was the only person who I talked to who actually recommended their DJ and didn't have some sort of horror story, I decided that I needed to check this guy out! The only reason he's not getting 5 stars is because he got my name wrong when he announced me and my husband to our reception. I can forgive once, but he did it once more. During our conversation he told me he wasn't available on the date of my daughters wedding but said his partner Jeff was. When her music started playing no announcement was made and no one knew to stand until they saw her. After the ceremony no annoucement was made for cocktail hour. My day of coordinator was super stoked when she saw Steve's name on my sheet. Even my photographer!! That's how good he is. Jeff and Steve at Function 45 are awesome! My Wife and I hired Jeff to DJ our wedding and he knocked it out of the park! Professional and easy to work with. Once he figured out our tastes in music he was able to blend in some more popular stuff with our playlist and keep the people out on the dance floor. Jeff gave us a couple of ideas that we were worried would come off as a little cheesy, but in real world application were actually very fun and engaging! When planning our wedding we knew that Steve at Function 45 was the only option as our MC/ DJ. Steve has been the DJ at 4 of Michael's siblings weddings and has always received rave reviews! Steve was great, he was personal, he helped us plan our reception and wedding music and made sure it would be fun for all of our guests and exactly what we wanted. I cannot count how many of our guests have given us compliments on how great Steve was and how much fun they had! Not to mention the layout at our venue was tricky : 3 different floors and a ceremony outside! He had it all covered. Everyone was able to hear and feel all of it. Then there was his photobooth It was a HUGE hit! All those props were a scream! And his booth isn't a 2 person sit down kind, it had enough from for 8 people!! That was awesome! He also did uplighting for us (see, they really do have it all!). Those lights were so elegant. They blended in perfectly with our decor without being obnoxious. I have already and will continue to recommend Steve and the crew at Function 45 to all of our friends and family! Steve did my daughters wedding and I have to say he was the most well prepared and technically proficient DJ I have ever seen. Here let me spell it out for you: 1) Wireless mics were needed he had them 2) We had power issues, but no problem Steve had equipment to test the electrical pull, AND had his own quiet generator so he could operate independently of our power challenges. Furthermore they found the problem that shut off our venue lights. 3) Mood lighting? He had it a whole slew of colored LED spotlights that he could operate remotely to create effects. They were also battery operated, so wires were not an issue. 4) He had independent battery operated wireless speakers he could spread out around the venue so no matter where you were you could hear the music and the announcements. 5) He had all the music anyone requested, and of course knows all the tricks to get people up on the floor and have fun. 6) He took the time to get to know not only the bride and groom. But many of the important guests, so in other words he took the time to be the consummate professional and be prepared. 7) To a potential bride and groom the thing he does for the first dance will make your entire guestbook cry. You have to experience it to get it. Bottom line if you want a DJ who is going to not only show up and provide music, but be an entertainer, get people involved, set the mood for the party, AND be prepared for any technical difficulty Steve is the guy!! read more

We recently had Jeff at Function 45 DJ/MC our wedding and he did the lighting and photo booth as well. Let me just say it was perfect! Everything went so smoothly thanks to him. All of our guests had such a great time and were so impressed with how smoothly everything went. The photo booth was a huge hit too! We used their DJ service for our wedding. Our venue highly recommended them as a preferred vendor. Unfortunately we did not have an exceptional experience as some of their other clients did. Communication was lacking. Jumping back and forth between Steve and Jeff made it very difficult to get clarification as far as "extra" charges went. They have exceptional equipment and the sound clarity was great. Jeff definitely kept the wedding timeline running smoothly. Unfortunately the music was lacking during the reception. There were no song mash ups or mixes what so ever. Each song would play and play until a guest got bored and requested a song change. This is all good and well but we only had a little over an hour of dancing and I hated seeing my guests have to interrupt his texting to get a song change. read more

My husband and I chose Steve and Function 45 for our dj/mc services for our wedding in November of 2018. He has so many wonderful ideas for making your wedding unique and feel like it's yours even when you do the standard wedding activities. He is professional, personable and really loves what he does. He helped us come up with great ways to keep everyone happy and having fun throughout the day. We had the social media minute before our ceremony and it was hilarious watching people think about coming up and then doing it, and we have some great pictures as a result. Steve at Function 45 was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding day! Our biggest priority of our wedding was that we wanted our guests to have a great time. My husband and I are not dancers and we were concerned that if we weren't out on the dance floor that the party wouldn't reach it's full potential. I never once thought of the service of Steve Schon from Function 45 as a business transaction, but rather a family affair. I promise you that if you hire Steve, you will feel the same way. My first experience of Steve's DJ expertise came when my older sister hired him to DJ her wedding. It was an unbelievably good time. I had seen Steve do things with the audience that I've never seen any DJ do before. He engaged the crowd, got everyone into the spirit of playing along with games he came up with, and oh yeah, when the time came, rocked the roof off the house with his awesome array of music collection. Well a few years later, my younger sister decided to get hitched too, and she realized how great a time everyone had at our sisters wedding reception, that she decided to hire Steve as well. Needless to say, everyone once again had a great time. I was the last of four siblings to tie the knot, and can you guess who I decided to be our entertainment for the evening? Yup, Steve! When I got a hold of Steve he was more than happy to be our DJ. He drove down to the Bay Area and met up with me to check out the venue. We rode together and talked about some ideas I had and he asked how the rest of the family was doing. He actually remembered my sisters! It goes to show that it's not all just business, but that there is some heart that goes into Steve's work and he genuinely cares. To further prove my point...Function 45 is based out of Sacramento. Both my sisters receptions were in South San Francisco, and mine was in Half Moon Bay. That is a 2 hour drive down, and a 2 hour drive back, not to mention traffic. Steve didn't hesitate to accept our request to be our DJ in spite of the distance. In fact he drove home the same night to do another gig the next day! Talk about dedication! Steve represents the true definition of professionalism. During my speech, I did what very few ever take the time to do, and that was to acknowledge and give credit to the people that worked so hard so that our wedding would turn out so perfect. I mentioned Steve and his dedication to ensure that everything would go right on my wedding day, and it did. I worked in retail for over 10 years, and I know what it's like to put so much effort and hard work into my job and never receive credit. I never expected to receive praise for anything, that's not why I went to work everyday and that's not why I did what I did. I worked hard and had good work ethics because I enjoyed doing what I did and I enjoyed helping and serving the public. Steve works on the same principles. Steve's knowledge of the entertainment world is vast, so much so that I couldn't stump him with my 80's trivia, and I consider myself a music buff. His ability to adapt to last minute changes and recommend ideas where we would otherwise be lost, is uncanny. This is one part of your special day you do not want to cut corners or take chances with. Hire someone who knows what they are doing, someone who cares who his clients are rather than someone who just thinks of you as another paycheck.
