I ended up not needing 2 books I had them dig for for me and they were super polite about putting them back (some comic shops have made rude comments when asking about stuff and choosing not to buy something last minute). I ended up coming back 2 weeks later and bought out the rest of the books that I originally did not want, as well as got some older books as well. Condition here is good. Its super clean and organized too. Wish we had a shop this big near me. Also, comic hunters, they have bins, FOR DAYS!

From current stuff to old to indie. The selection is deep. They have a few long boxes of $1 comics and a few magazine size boxes (I cleared out their old Epic Magazines in one trip), a few walls of games and a solid selection of statues/figures. They also get in some great books, like Illustrators and Illustration (two separate publications), which you usually have to find online/buy direct. All in all, a great place to stop by and dig around!

I was looking for a silver dollar from the year 1935 for my grandmother. Instead of buying it…read moreonline, I decided to visit a local coin shop because I hadn't been inside an old school coin shop in years. While searching for all local coin shops I could find, I wrote down a list of the ones that looked most promising. Valley Coins of Seymour was on that list.  For whatever reason, I've heard that some coin shops these days no longer keep their stock out in full view of anyone walking in, but rather focus on "What are you looking for? We probably have it in back." I called a couple shops who confirmed they no longer have their stock out on display, and then they said "We have a lot of stock in back. What are you looking for?" Fortunately, Valley Coins of Seymour was not one of those shops. When I called, the owner said they were open and would be there until 5pm. I left immediately and headed up there. Upon first walking to Valley Coins, it hit me that the place was remarkably clean and well put together. Everything was organized and the display cases were stocked. I didn't tell the owner exactly what I was looking for, instead I opted to look around and comb through some of the bins of loose silver dollars he had available. I spent at least 2 hours in the shop, sitting on a barstool, searching through piles of silver dollars. While seated, people kept coming in and out of the shop, and it surprised me how busy the place was. It felt like a cross between an episode of Pawn Stars and an episode of Cheers. As a first-time customer, I was careful not to make any sudden movements with my hands, or shove my hands into my pockets for any reason. I remembered once when I was much younger, walking into another coin shop and seeing a Glock tucked in the waistband of one of the employees. While I didn't expect to be shot at Valley Coins, I realized they didn't know me and I didn't want them to get the wrong idea. I found what I was looking for...a 1935 Peace Dollar for my grandmother. Upon taking the coin home, I noticed someone had scratched the initials "J.A.M." onto the coin, along with the date: 12/22/42. Wow! Had someone scratched that on the coin in 1942? Or was that someone born in 1942 and they scratched the coin on their 50th birthday in 1992? There was no way to tell, the only thing I did know was I had picked the right coin. The one with a story. I talked with the folks at Valley Coins quite a bit and was very impressed with not only their operation, but also their knowledge. Next time I'm on the hunt for a coin for whatever reason, I will certainly return to Valley Coins of Seymour!

Best Comic Shop in The Area! I've been going to Rogue Comics…read moresince its initial opening in 2010, and I must say, the place is like fine wine- It gets better with age! The owner Mike is one of the most pleasant people to talk to and his seemingly endless knowledge of comic books and generally nerdy things is rather refreshing. You can tell he loves what he does and puts care into making sure every customer he serves ends up enjoying their visit. Want a certain comic book or piece of paraphernalia that is unavailable at the moment? Mike will offer to order it for you. He is helpful to people of all ages and doesn't get enough credit for the work that he does. I truly hope that Rogue Comics stays open and thrives in its business for years to come.
