Decided at the last minute to rent a 2 seater cart for our weekend. The lady on the phone wasn't super pleasant but the girl behind the counter was nice. We got a quick run down on how to operate the cart and we were off. It was so fun to explore the island and super easy to park in tiny places. Max speed of cart was 26 mph but island speed limit is 25 so not a big deal. I took 1 star off because the cart needs charging and places to charge are limited unless you're renting a home. We were staying in a hotel so it was a challenge. Fortunately my brother rented a home so we borrowed their electricity for a few hours. The electric hummer needed charged too often; the manager was rude. We had more fun when we rented mopeds from the business located across the street. Don't let the vehicle get to 35% power because it won't accelerate past 5 MPH. It was a $175 plus tax learning lesson read more

I usually don't leave reviews but I have to here. There was damage on the moped when I got it. I mentioned it to the person who gave me the moped outside. He said don't worry about it we have it marked down and we won't charge u for it. So I didn't think to take pictures of the damage looking back I should've. They charged me $70 for repairs. When I told them the that scratch was there before. They told me it wasn't and the person I mentioned the scratch to said he didn't remember me saying anything. So I highly recommend if u want mopeds to go anywhere else one this island I think there's a few other places that rent so please use them. read more

Two teenagers and what they can get into brought us into Fun on Wheels. I was so amazed with the excellent service, the care of the family that runs it and there dedication to safety for the kids. The wife at the front answered all questions and was helpful. My 16 and 17 year old sons rented motor scooters for 24 hours at a cost of $44.00 each and topping off the tank before return. The boys ended up getting into the store at closing time, but they stayed open and accommodated us. The son showed the boys how to ride and work the scooters and made me feel at ease as a mother. Everything from the initial visit to the return was smooth and wonderful. Cost was within reason and the family running the place is outstanding. read more

While visiting the lovely Chincoteague Island, the locals informed us the island was only 7 miles long. So, the family and I decided to really take in the sites by downsizing our ride. On Saturday morning we decided to stop by a couple of local rental shops and get their miniature car, bicycle, and trike pricing. We stopped at one place before coming to Fun on Wheels. When we pulled up here, one of the workers stopped unloading their rentals and asked us if we had any questions. After discussing the pricing with him for the miniature cars, bicycles, and trikes we discovered they (Fun Wheels) had the better pricing! When we got inside two young ladies assisted us with our checkout and paper work (you have to sign a waiver and contract if you rent their products). We decided to rent a mini electric car --which was $125 for the day and a trike for an hour- $25. I think this was a pretty good deal, esp. since the competition we priced earlier was trying to charge us more. You must also wear a helmet and eye wear when operating the trike-- a helmet rental is $2 more for the day(really cheap right?). As for eye wear--- if you wear glasses or have sunglasses you do not have to purchase their products. The staff here was very nice and they answered all our questions and told us if we had any more questions or problems we could reach them at the shop number on the business card. The number was also located on the key chains of our rentals. After we finished checking out, the gentlemen gave us a tutorial of how to work the mini electrical car and the trike. They also let me do a test ride around the building to make sure we could work each one properly. Fun on Wheels closes at 5pm on the weekend, so if you do all day and not 24 hours(which cost more) you have to return by then. We had an amazing time touring the island in our rentals and it really enhanced our site seeing. Fun on Wheels gets an approval from me, thank you Fun on Wheels! read more

Be careful if you are new. Both my wife and I had issues on one of the trikes, I have written many motorized vehicles and NEVER had this issue. The brakes were not working right, and the trike was moving left with my hand off the acceleration, pushing with my left hand to turn right. They then billed us 300 to fix the machine that we never even got to take off the lot before the defect caused it to fall. They also had no people outside, once they said we could go, they ran away and only came when they heard the bike fall as I was trying to get it back for them to look at. They claim the bike was working fine, but the did bill us for right fender work when the bike hit and fell left... Make sure you are careful here. They may basically use unknowing vacationers like us to simply pay for updates to their damaged products. Again, this is NOT my first time on these types of machines, and I've never had an issue. Perhaps these trikes are too dangerous and shouldn't be lent out! BE WARNED!! read more

We rented a 4 person buggy for the day (6 hours). While it was fun and made getting in and out at various stops convenient, the battery seems to last about 3 hours before the charge indicator is in the yellow. When it reaches that point, it takes a few hours to get a decent charge back. We turned it back in after 4 hours (so 1/3 of the $$$ was wasted) because of this issue. 1.5 hours of our 4, it was parked at the beach. It's impossible to hook up and "steal" another business's juice. It's seems they know this and I should have thought that through a little better. But, I was assured it would last to 3:00 and/or 25-30 miles. NOT POSSIBLE! read more

If you're curious about the unique types of transportation on the Island, Fun on wheels has something to offer. They lease out scoot coupes which seats two passengers (my favorite), bikes, bikes with a baby seat in the back, and scooters. Visitors can lease these items for an hourly or daily rate. A credit card and license are required but you can pay in cash. The scoot coupe lacks a reverse feature so if you find yourself needing to reverse you will need to get out and push the coupe back. Not fun to figure out in the hotel parking lot as opposed to being informed ahead of time while hitting the road. The staff are decent though I find that failing to mention there is no reversing option is a bit neglectful of a person's safety. read more

We rented the 6 person buggy for my husband, daughter-in-law, 5 & 3 year old grandsons and myself for 24 hours. ALL 5 of us thoroughly enjoyed riding around sightseeing, to the beach, to the coffee house and many other places. Since the top speed on the island is 25 MPH the buggy was perfect! We loved it so much that after our DIL & grandsons left we rented a 2 person buggy for ourselves for another 24 hours. No problem with the battery b/c we followed explicit instructions of charging it whenever we could. No problems at all, actually! I would HIGHLY recommend renting one of these buggies. Every single one of the staff we dealt with on both occasions were pleasant, laid back and genuinely nice. read more

Do not rent 4 or 6 seat carts for the day. You pay for 2-3 hours of use time and 3 hours of charge time.

The prices are insane for the product you get. You rent it thinking you will at least be able to drive to and from the beach without it dying. That is not the case. They die extremely quick and then take 3-4 hours to charge. Not to mention before you get the buggy- no one explains that to you. Other than when it's yellow make sure you plug it in. On the way to the beach I went from 3 green bars to yellow and then red just in the road to the beach. It's run by a bunch of kids who don't care if you are about to run out of battery and have no solution to help you. My husband could of broke down but risked driving it back. We have been coming to the island for over 10 years now but we will never do this again. Big big mistake. Would only give us 50 dollars back for our negative experience and we had it for 2.5 hours if that!! Don't waste your money. read more

I asked the girl about pricing. My husband and I decided to rent 2 scooters for 6 days. She charged me and at the end she wrote my return date and time on a slip and gave it to me. Everything went good. The scooters were nice. We were happy and enjoyed riding around the island for the week. We had to be checked out of our rental property by 10am my husband and I were super busy packing to get out on time. Meanwhile the scooters needed to be back by 9:30am. I had my sons take the scooters back for me. They call me and say that I was sopose to have them back the day before that I only rented it for 5 days. I told them no i rented it for 6 nights i even have my slip with return date and time on it. So my one son came back and got me. Meanwhile fun on wheels wouldnt let the other boys leave. Made them stay there!! I went in took my slip with me. Commented to my sons "their holding you hostage" we approached the girl at the counter my son handed her my slip with date and time on it and before I could get a word out she said " your lieing that's not the right receit thats the receit for your helmet to my son. I was shocked!!! First of all I don't lie and it absolutely was my slip that she wrote for me. She said you only rented the scooter for 5 days. What happened was she only charged me for 5 days instead of six like I requested. I didn't know she made that mistake or I would have said something at the time. My slip was correct. It had the right return date and time on it. she made the mistake and they made me pay for another days rental while calling me a liar and acting like I was in the wrong. She said I had an attitude when I walked in because of the comment I made to my boys! I asked to speak with manager. After a good 10 mins of discussion the manager just had the same attitude as the girl at the counter. They call us liars and instead of owning their mistake and providing good customer service they insult our character! Sadly I will not rent from Fun on wheels again. read more

There are a lot of places to rent scooters and buggies on Chincoteague Island, but this is not the place. Rented a trike, drove over to the beach (Assateague), drove back and battery was dead. Went by the place and they replaced it. Then went for a drive after dark and no lights. Got about two hours of driving time and paid for 24 hr. No refund, no discount, no nothing!!! I bought a scooter battery here and they sold me a bad one. I took it to another shop and they tested it and they proved they sold me a bad battery with a bad cell. I tried to take the battery back but the scooter guy said you bought it and no returns! These guys are not honest, don't go here! read more
