I think it's important to note that there's a good change you will only see one or potentially none at all. The crew was extremely nice, but for the money, I would have done something else. We went into the cove area and there was 1 manatee that other boats were waiting to see. After one group left, we swam up, saw it for about 5 min before it swam off. That was basically the extent of it. I swam to see one of the springs. But for $500 for a family of 5; I wish there we could have seen others or at least tried to go and see other ones. It also would have been helpful if we could have had an option to cancel if they had tours that didn't see any or really low exposure that day (or been able to reschedule for a colder day). read more

As a Florida native, it is absurd that I have never had any sort of manatee interaction! My longtime friend booked us a semi- private tour for my birthday and we could not have had any better of a time. As luck had it, we were the only ones on the tour! Even though we went during the low season (August) when not as many manatees are present in the water, it also happens to be the time of year where the babies are around. Our Captain used a drone to locate a mother and baby manatee where no other tour groups were located. We were in very shallow water, and the manatees literally swam underneath of our bodies, pushing us up to the surface and rolling us around where we were completely powerless and stuck within the mangroves. It was absolutely amazing and brought tears to my eyes! Our guide Zach and Captain Ryan we're fabulous and I really look forward to doing this again. We had such a fun time doing the manatee swim & snorkel tour! Our guide Storm and captain Derek were great. We came in the summer offseason, but we still managed to see one or two manatees. We opted to go swim in some nice springs after the manatee portion. They provided 3mm wetsuits, masks with snorkels, and bottled water. Even though the weather was hot, the water still felt very cold in our thin wetsuits. I can't imagine how cold it gets in the winter in those suits. They have several changing rooms (only covered by a curtain that doesn't close completely) and two restrooms in the shop. There are no showers. Make sure to bring a towel. Storm took pictures with a GoPro, and the images were available for purchase afterwards for $45. There were great pictures of the manatees, but not so much of us swimming beside them. The Classic Manatee Swim Tour was about $80 per person plus tip. You can't tip by card, so bring cash or a debit card to use their on-site ATM. read more

I was so worried by the 23* air temperatures for my birthday swim. I was so excited when I followed our guide Storm to an area with a few really playful manatees. I loved the Eskimo kisses I got and having it swim right under me. I was sure to stay in the water until everyone was done. Swimming with manatees has long been a dream of mine and my experience today with guide Eli and Capt Alex was beyond wonderful. My family booked us a private tour and I HIGHLY recommend this option as this really does limit the number of people around you making noise/splashing so much that it intimidates the manatees. We also opted for an early morning tour (8am) and that is also highly recommended because the manatee do move based on water temp and tides, so early is better. We had our own wetsuits and I would HIGHLY recommend wearing one - even though the waters are "warm" I thought it was really cold (even with a wetsuit). Eli and Alex took us directly where the manatees were swimming between the preserve and the gulf (their food source). We had amazing encounters with many manatee where we were anchored along the manatee highway. The water was just like the town's name, clear, and those beautiful sea potatoes would swim directly under us where we were floating. It was honestly the most insanely special experience. The staff (workers in the shop, shuttle drivers, guides, captains) were all incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. This was a bucket list item for me and this company provided the perfect experience. Went on the tour with a friend and had an amazing time with guide Storm and captain Ryan. Storm was so knowledgeable about the area and manatees, the main attraction. Ryan drove the boat and the drone and spotted a huge adult female and then a mom and calf pair. We saw lots of birds, including a bald eagle. In the water, Storm made everyone in the group feel comfortable. He helped keep us calm which then helped the manatee stay so we could enjoy the manatee longer. The equipment, wet suit and snorkel gear, were great as well. We had waterproof cases for our phones but didn't even use them since Storm took lots of pics of us and the manatees with his GoPro, that you could purchase at the store afterwards. We even had time to swim at the end where 2 springs meet called King's Spring. The water was very clear and I channeled my inner Weeki Wachee mermaid and swam about looking at the crabs and fish swimming around. It was an amazing and magical day, thank you so much! Fun 2 Dive created a core memory for me! Shoutout to Neal, my guide for the day! I came solo from California and had a wonderful experience! If this is something you're interested in and have no one to go with, go! You'll regret it if you don't. Everything was well organized and professional. While we didn't get to see too many manatees, 3 was fine! I actually can't imagine being out there when there's like 100! At one point, the largest one was right below me. Some key mentions that might be helpful for someone: -yes you can bring your phone or underwater cameras. I used my insta360 with a short handle. -the water isn't too deep where we dived. We also used a pool noodle which was very useful to stay afloat. - bring some cash to tip your guide. Not required but you might want to. These guys are really good at making you feel safe and comfortable. - wear your bathing suit ready. It will make changing into wet suit a lot faster. -bring a towel - yes you can bring your backpack/belongings into the boat. Just know it might get wet. -there is no shower to wash off after so be prepared to leave fresh from the manatee poop waters lol -there's only 2 bathrooms here so be quick to get what you need done before a long line forms. - it's kid friendly. There were some small children in our group. I think everyone should somewhat be comfortable with the water though. I would consider going back during a future Florida trip. Bucket list done!!! well run company from the bookings, waivers, warnings & prelim videos, boats, captains wetsuits, snorkel gear, guiding. PRO: 1. Safety was big. Never felt unsafe while in the water and guided by Ben? & Mack(captain). Super friendly guide and boat captain. Felt relaxed even if never snorkeled or not a good swimmer. Really liked they give you pool noodle to float on. 2. Boats were well maintained. Captain pointed out where manatees were so we swam to them 3. At the shop, they have tiny change rooms but had 12 of them which made changing in and out of wetsuit fast without having to wait. Clean Bathrooms available. 4. Had free coffee, tea, hot chocolate in the wait area and appreciated the hot beverages on the boat getting out of the water. 5. Has a Gift shop so you can purchase items you may have forgotten or things to temp the kids CON: 1. One main negative is the guide didn't take enough pictures AND the pictures were $45 for all the pics or $25 for 1 pic. I debated doing another tour company that included the pics in the price but this outfit has been doing this for a while and has many solidly good reviews. 2. Receptionist scheduler could be friendlier 3. No lockers for your stuff - so you have to stow your personal items either in car or bring them onto boat which could slide or get lost in water or items could get wet. Recommendations TIPS for a good trip -wear swimsuit beforehand, bring towels, T-shirt hoodie for after. Loose pants/shorts/tennis skirts/undergarments and crocs or slip on sandals for quick change out. 72degrees water temp may sound warm it's not. -bring plastic bag or waterproof bag for on the boat to stow your towels or hoodie /clothes -if you don't want to pay for pics bring GoPro or those water tight waterproof pouches/cases for your phone so you can take pics underwater Otherwise great company and had an awesome time!!! read more

Great experience for the first time swimming with manatees. Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge is the only wildlife refuge in Florida dedicated to protecting the West Indian manatee. Manatees migrate to Crystal River, Florida from mid-November to late March. The largest population of manatees is seen between December and February. Had a blast on this journey about a hour and a half drive from Tampa. The experience is truly one of a kind. You get to snorkel with manatees that have hibernated to the area for around 45 mins to a hour. Stormy & Captain Gavin were both great as boat navigator and manatee tour guide, both gentlemen were very knowledgeable of the area and the wildlife. My girlfriend and I had a great time on a semi-private tour with Ben and LB. Even though we were off-season and the visibility in the water was poor that day, Ben and LB were still able to deliver and get us some great manatee encounters. The boat was very comfortable and mercifully shaded. It was easy to get in and out, even though I have some mobility issues. The guides were knowledgable and answered my many, many questions. They were also knowledgable about fishing in the area, and had lots of suggestions for local eateries and entertainment as well. Most importantly to me, they successfully encouraged my girlfriend to join in and have a good time even though she was spooked by the murkiness of the water and got out immediately after getting in the first time. Once we were around the manatees she got back in and stayed in, and she is grateful that she did. So captain LB and guide Ben definitely saved the day for us by making her comfortable enough to get back in the water! My family and I are overwhelmingly grateful for an incredible experience with Fun2Dive! We had originally scheduled a tour earlier in the day, but due to our own miscommunication, we arrived late. They worked with us to join a later tour in the day and were kind enough to refund the difference in price. Based on the unexpected gesture, we were invested in returning the funds through buying merch, etc. Their staff gave us an excellent recommendation for lunch (Seafood Seller) and when we returned, we were eager for what awaited. We were paired with Storm as a guide, Judge as boat captain. We received wetsuits and a briefing on manatees, their habitat and behavior, and how their business and customers can ensure the animals comfort and protection. We were driven the 5 minutes to the marina and set out on the water. Both Storm and Judge excelled at talking through the experience. Over the next couple of hours, each discussed how manatees live throughout summer months in Crystal River and how they look to position themselves to both find these animals for our group and how to set us up as knowledgeable visitors. We were coached on what to look for, how snorkelers can be respectful to manatees, and everything else that came to mind. We scouted out a few spots and immediately found a few animals in a cove. We finished gearing up and slowly descended. Over more than the following hour, Storm quietly prompted and coached our group in operating around manatees - How best we can see them underwater and rising for air, how we can plan ahead and position ourselves for taking better photos, and again, how we can err on protecting and respecting manatees in their own environment. We were overwhelmed by the size, shape, and grace of the animals. They were foreign, surprisingly large, gentle, and zen. My family is very grateful for both Storm and Judge, and their clear expertise. We had an incredible encounter and we hope that we will be able to return for a visit in the winter. If you're going to do a Manatee tour, go in February and book it HERE!!! We came for the first time in 2020 (also in February,) and our first experience was awesome. We raved about it and told everyone that they needed to do it should they ever visit Florida. So when we found out that we would be here again in February for a wedding, we knew we had to bring our kids!!! We got SO lucky with Captain Dylan & our guide Jessica. We had THE best team. Dylan operated a drone to check the area and find them & Jessica was in the water helping all of us get THE closest encounters I could have hoped for! We saw at least 5 manatees and got up close noses and some accidental "manatee rides" which happens if they come up for air and you're above them. Our group this time was incredible as well. Everyone was very respectful of the manatees and other snorklers. I have to say that Jessica went above and BEYOND in my opinion. She made sure we got close ENOUGH without getting too close, helped the kids (especially my son... constantly!) with their masks and with positioning us so we had the best views and couos just freeze. Once in a lifetime experience! Our in-water guide Storm and captain/hot chocolate connoisseur Gavin were amazing. Gavin was knowledgeable of the area/best place to go, and made sure we were able to warm up quickly post-snorkel as it is very chilly after. Storm did a great job of explaining the manatee manners (what to do if a manatee approaches), led us to the best spots, pointed out where he saw manatees, told us how to navigate the springs, and captured some great photos. We booked a 7:30 am private tour for 5 of us. We may have gotten a hug and kiss from a few manatees. I had an amazing experience today snorkeling with the manatees! I'm still somewhat of a new Floridian resident, and this has been on my to-do list for some time now. This was my first time snorkeling and my first time swimming with aquatic life. Fun 2 Dive made this an amazing experience for us. I went snorkeling today with my group Outdoor Afro. Apparently Jan is the best month to do this due to the cold weather. The manatees tend to migrate to this area of Crystal River due to its warmth. The water stays around 72 degrees. Today was definitely a perfect day for snorkeling because the temp outside at 7:30am was 40 degrees. We were SURROUNDED by manatees! It was so awesome! Our guide Captain Storm was very knowledgeable, provided great instruction and guidance, and was very patient with our group. We all were provided with a wet suit, snorkel mask, and foam noodle for the activity. Cap Storm guided us to the more populated areas and took great photos and videos for us! When we finished snorkeling and boarded back onto the boat we were treated with hot tea and hot cocoa. I definitely recommend booking a snorkeling trip with this company. They were very professional and ensured that we had a great time. Photos/video are available to purchase for around $45. I recommend going early in the morning to avoid people traffic in the water. If swimming with manatees is on your bucket list, Fun 2 Dive can help to make it happen. It felt like we chose the coldest day of the year because it was 37 degrees when we went out in the morning. We booked our trip a couple weeks in advance and decided to go first thing in the morning based on what we'd read about the springs. We filled out our waivers and watched the recommended video ahead of time so we had a pretty good idea of what to expect. We checked in and directed to restrooms & coffee and tea while we waited. When it was time for our trip we were greeted by Kaylee (guide) and we were given wetsuits to put over our swimwear. They have an area with small changing cubbies with curtains that you can use for privacy when donning your wetsuit. We changed and put our clothes in the car as we were warned that anything on the boat would get wet. Because it was so cold we all wore coats and brought towels for after. Then we got on the bus to the dock and we met Dylan (boat captain) and all got comfortable for the ride. We rode around for a bit and saw a couple manatees but there were other boats around them so we continued to look for more. Dylan pulled out the drone and found some in a small lagoon out of the way so he pulled the boat in and we all got out. We followed Kaylee through the water but it was challenging to keep up with her while balancing on the pool noodle and remembering not to kick too much or touch the bottom. We immediately saw a manatee upon entering and even saw a mom and baby swim by. We were in the water with 4 manatees during our trip. It was awesome seeing them in their natural habitat while just going about their normal day~ swimming, eating, sleeping, and coming up to the surface to breathe. It was amazing and a trip that we won't forget. Before we knew it, it was time to head back. We all hopped on the boat and dried off as Dylan offered hot beverages which we were glad to see. The boat returned to dock and we were shuttled back to Fun2Dive where we changed into dry clothes to prepare for the ride home. Couple items to note: Knowledge: ask any questions you may have. Kaylee and Dylan were very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. We learned so much about the area and the manatees. Timing: the approximate 3 hour trip is your total tour time from when greeted by your guide to arriving back at Fun2Dive. You're not in the water with manatees for that amount. Real time in the water was less than an hour. People: we booked the semi private swim (max 6) for the 4 of us and another group of 2 was on the boat too. Next time we will book a private swim. With more people in the water and everyone jockeying to see the manatee, it was tough. My husband and I stayed back further from the manatees because we wanted our kids to be able to get close. Restroom: they have 2. Use them after checking in and definitely before putting on your wetsuit. There was a restroom at the dock but will only lessen amount of time in the water. Photos: While in the water Kaylee took photos that were available for purchase ($45) We had a GoPro so we didn't purchase them. Gratuity: they have an atm but I'd recommend bringing cash so you don't have to worry about that after your swim. We booked an afternoon session to go snorkeling with manatees and we had the best time! We were lead by Captain Judge and our guide Jake, who were both so knowledgeable about manatees and the area - they answered all of our questions and more. They were both super friendly and helped us to feel comfortable in the water, which can be a little intimidating at first because the manatees are so large but they are so sweet too! I would highly recommend booking your trip with Fun 2 Dive. They provide all the snorkeling gear and we had hot chocolate when we got out of the water and were on our way back to the dock.
