The Fulton Mall is a beautiful spot in Fresno to walk and enjoy gardens, fountains, and sculpture. It is not, unfortunately a place to eat or shop. The potential is there, but until shops and restaurants that appeal to upper middle class shoppers come along, buildings will remain shuttered and vacant. Such a waste of real estate.

When I first saw the Fulton Mall prior to the renovation project about 3 years ago--downtown Fresno just felt like a downer.

There are several independent businesses/shops inside. There is a wig shop (suite M-33), shoe stand for athletic shoes (front left area) and even a hair salon (Jasmine's Beauty Salon: M-6) also for men & women. There are several clothing shop/suites that can more than likely clothe the entire family. You want undergarments for men & women? They got it (M-32) ! There is even a business that sells men's clothing, provide silkscreening for t-shirt designs and sell jewelry. Did I mention jewelry? There are well over 3 jewelry independent businesses to get your "bling" on. As for the outside area, it has it's own personality. It is in downtown Fresno, youuu knnnow what to expect. Or, maybe not. Once you step out of the front entrance there is a place that sells women's formalwear (Femme Formalwear: very nice owner & employee) and a place that sells Chinese food (China Express: the owner and workers are also very nice). BTW, you are about a 2 minute walk or 500 feet from the nearest brewery-beergarden just down the street. How good is that? At a time when you can be lazy and just order on the phone, I think the actual effort to shop in person is what makes us human- - - human interaction. Most importantly these shops probably don't have online ordering nor delivery. Business have been slow or declining overall in Downtown Fresno. But, with lock down it has been really bad more than ever before. Let's think globally but act locally, please support local businesses, spread the wealth and generate some taxes for education and other services for the area.

After shopping for two weeks I found the best selection of formal gowns and dresses in fresno here and Some of the best prices for gold and customize jewelry are in the Mammoth Mall. In two months I have purchased party supplies, A Texido for my son 2 formal gowns for myself, 2 gold necklaces customized written in Armenian my children's name. I just keep coming back because I know they have what I need. I found so many other options it is very specific though if you're coming to look for certain things. There are not as many homeless people walking around I see a lot of gentrified younger professionals strolling down the streets which is something I have never seen in the past 20 years. There are shops for jeans, I also seen a china express, and there's even a little fruit shop to eat at. To my surprise the Fulton entertainment district is rising successfully.

All other businesses have either access via an exterior door, or in the case of at least one business, you can ONLY access them through the exterior. (The interior gate was closed and locked) Many of the businesses that were hanging on here have apparently moved, with signs giving you directions to their new address. Even the workforce connection and City of Fresno offices that were here are now closed. A renovation was started next to the Caltrans building, it has drab boring grey carpet and walls, but it makes it MAYBE 175 feet into the building, and then reverts back to the original 70's decor. (Which obviously I love, and I think they should have absolutely kept it.) The lights in the main concourse were mostly turned off, and the only people besides myself seemed to be Caltrans employees walking around on lunch, a homeless man charging his phone, and a dude kicking back on one of the benches, chowing down on slim jim's and listening to music full blast from his phone's speaker. It was really sad to see this place in such a state of abandon, though surprisingly I didn't see any evidence of the ceiling collapsing or any other things you might typically see from buildings in this state. There are supposedly some apartments going in here upstairs, but I see absolutely no evidence of this. It was announced early last year and was supposed to take 18-24 months, but I see absolutely no preparation being done, and I will believe it when I see it. (I would also think twice about renting an apartment in a failing mall, where they are banking on the apartments to bring in more businesses.) All in all, it was an interesting trip just seeing the old mall designs that I loved, but sad to see a mall I loved as a kid so empty and abandoned.

It definitely has softened my expectations on what it plans to be. I hear it may be repurposed for apartments which may be a good idea to bring some life back to the community in that area. It heavily depends on its investors and what corporate agenda lies in the plays it decides to make for the future of this location. I come every 2-3 times a year to see if there's any updates to renovations/storefronts. Other than that, the mall culture is dead there.

Sure they couldn't land the first Cracker Barrel in the cencal region, but thats ok. Since then this shopping center has expanded and probably one of the biggest in fresno and surrounding areas. They have a movie theatre now, I believe a Dutch Bros is in store, 5 gives, even more tesla super chargers, etc. Best part is 2 things--its right off the 99 AND its in the nice part of Fresno being on Herndon. For those new in the area, I know exiting Herndon right off the freeway still gives off some MEH vibes, but if you keep driving east on Herndon, you'll see that Fresno's north side is nice and this is the affluent part of the city. For those on road trips through the 99 and if you ever wanted to check out Fresno, the Herndon exit and stopping by this plaza is a safe bet. My only knock still on this shopping plaza is the design. Boring strip mall design. This place is HUGE and could have been designed to be more walkable like an outdoor mall. If they put everything in the center and parking around. Missed opportunity.
