I learned how to make over 10 drinks in a two hour time frame. Some I would make at home when I have companies over. I feel bar smart now! no bartender is going to rip me off! There are many options and I was employed not two weeks post-grad. He provides recipes and technique no class can teach, only the years of varied work and taste experience a master bartender can receive. Depending on where you wish to be employed Cary is able to tell you several bars/restaurants house drinks/recipes or about bartenders who were students of his in the past to give you an edge. It's an excellent classroom, and you'll definitely be comfortable behind a bar long before the end of the sessions. The TABC instructor who provides legal licensing on Thursday classes is incredibly professional and welcoming and her anecdotes keep it lighthearted when helping you realize the responsibility of this job/career you wish to pursue. But most importantly, this goal is achieved by your work and determination. This is not a "do your homework and guaranteed a job" Develop personality as much as your handiwork. Any other school who gives any guarantee as such cannot provide it. ABC is honest, optimistic and if money is an issue they provide great payment plans to help you along. Ugh we are embroiled in a nasty confrontation with Elizabeth's (now former) piano teacher. He wouldn't let her play the piano in her recital because she "wasn't ready" but he would accompany her on guitar and she could sing for an extra $30 . So I learned to play the sheet music so I could accompany her for free and he still wouldn't let her perform. So we said we won't be back could we have our $150 for June back and he said no we can't get our money back. Cue a bunch of angry texts later (on both sides) and he still refuses to refund us. What would you do? Should I drop it? Is it worth the $150?

For the past two years, I've been proud to volunteer as an adult basic literacy instructor. The class is centered around teaching adults basic phonics so they can progress to a level of reading and spelling multi-syllable words. However, LIFT also offers courses at other levels, including pre-GED, ESL (English as a Second Language), and family classes in partnership with DISD. Almost all classes are offered at the Main Campus at the Opportunity Center in south Dallas, but there are several ESL classes all across the Dallas metroplex. LIFT has an amazing mission, and they are more than willing to equip those who want to volunteer with the appropriate training. When I see my students excel or grasp a new concept, I can't help but feel that LIFT has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my life thus far.
