I've had Borracho Jerky before (on my otherwise regrettable trips to Big 8) and it has always had a sweet spot with me. This is the kind of jerky that you splash with Valentina's or throw in a red beer. You know, the super thin, crisp kind. After a half day spent at antique shops, buying comic books, vintage records and random knick-knacks I was making the drive back to my casa and on the way up Talbot St. I saw a sign with dazed cows on it. Could it be? Could it be the very place that makes the only item I'm willing to purchase from a Big 8. It was in fact! I pulled in to a beaten path that led to what looked like a tiny house surrounded by a chain link fence. There were two people outside loading up a car and so I asked, "Can I buy beef jerky here?" After some smiles, a nod and a "yes", I found myself inside Borracho. Turns out they weren't actually opened, but the owners were nice enough to open up for me anyways. I was already very familiar with this brand, what I wasn't familiar with was the huge variety of different flavored jerky they carry. In Big 8 all I ever saw was Jalepeno, Tequila Lime, and original. Inside the actual Borracho store they have every flavor of jerky you want and they have these huge packs that will last you weeks (or days if you're an avid jerky eater like me). The regular sized packs you find at Big 8 are usually around $7 and only have 4-5 pieces, the huge ones at Borracho are $12 and have 10+ pieces. I ended up getting the Mesquite and Jalapeno, both quite good (the Jalapeno has always been a fave of mine). Growing up, I guess I was never taught the importance of sharing because I hate sharing my food (unless it's awful, then you can take as much as you like). I had so much jerky I didn't even think twice about sharing with Bambi and threw her, her very own big piece of jerky. Borracho Jerky makes me a better person and for that alone I will always be a loyal customer.

I got flap steak with a California marinade and it was pretty good. If they used a slightly better quality of meat they'd be awesome. Hello - [ ] I am…read moregoing to start off by saying we used to LOVE this meat market... every time we needed meat, steak or we had a cook out we would run to "la estrella"... but in 9/19 we had a horrible experience and we decided to never go back again... not only for their foolish return policy but because they did not took any action... we got to la estrella at around 5:26pm... got in line ask for 4 pieces of sirloin tip which is about 5.64 lbs ($6.99 per lb) the total was $39.42... we were going back home which is about 5 mins away from la estrella... we notice a strange smell... and to be honest we taught it was our dog that needed to use the restroom so we put the windows down... and we hurried home... we set up the grill... the meat was cooked and we sat down to eat... when sitting down i still could get a stinky smell... and i ask my family members if they did and they started smelling the meat... i tried the steak and it tasted HORRIBLE!!! We gather the meat put it in a bag... and we took it back to La estrella... when i got there we waited there because you know we understand things happen it could not even been their fault... it could be the people who transported the meat... and we didn't want to make a big deal... we approach the cashier, explained the situation and he told us yes, i could get credit or get the refund... we did not wanted meat... it was BAD... so we opt it for the refund... to our surprise they only refund the weight that you take back... mind you the steak loosed 25% or more of it's weight when cooked... which in this case we received the refund for $21.48... mind you we paid 17.99 for bad meat that was not edible and had a horrible smell... the whole store smelled funky when we opened the package... and even like that we still had to pay... so estrella never losses... then ok we agreed and we asked them to then remove the bucket they had with meat so people wouldn't go through the same experience that we did, to avoid someone getting sick... and they adv they couldn't do such thing... i gave up with them... took my "refund" and left... i write this not only to point out their fool refund policy so they never loose... but to point out also la estrella don't care for their customers and sell you bad meat!

Went to the Eastside yesterday to try to get my car washed for free at the new Tommy's which turned…read moreout to be a bad idea since it started raining again. Decided to make the most of it and stop by Weird'O Beardo Jerky and taste his meat. I've seen them at the farmer's market and never got to try them, but they just opened a cute store off Montwood, right around the corner from Ono Shaved Ice! He had a lot of flavors to try and it's the thin type of jerky that goes with the carne seca drinks. They had a lot of the vendors they work with at the Country club Farmer's market on Saturdays and the Upper Valley Farmer's market on Sundays. From the festive decor to the candied applies, popcorn, caramel, teas, freeze dried fruit and candies, and last but not least, my favorite chamoy Chamoylicious_ep, it's a fiesta in a store! Pretty much a great place showcasing the flavors of El Paso. If they sold glass mugs, pinatas, and some decor, you can actually do a one stop shop for a great happy hour party at home! In fact, all of the store seems to look like it's to celebrate your taste buds. I'm happy that the Eastside has easy access to all the goodies that the Westside gets at the farmer's markets, but kinda jealous they don't have to wait til the weekend. Come check them out and truly #supportlocal. Oh and also get the boba and shaved ice at Ono Shaved Ice while you're at it. I rewarded my kids for the drive with a large shaved ice split 2 ways. I rewarded myself with a brown sugar boba. Can't wait to have the rain go away so I can wash the smells from my damp car. BUYER BEWARE No…read morestars if that were an option. A family friend purchased $497 worth of beef ribs from this butcher for our Memorial Day BBQ. He bought them and brought them directly to our house, on ice, to keep in our freezer for my husband to cook this past weekend. Well, upon opening the vacuum seal, there was a smell worse than any fish market. Sometimes when meats are packaged this way, the gas gets trapped and it's stinky upon opening. My husband trimmed the fat, rinsed the meat, and we let it sit in our fridge, hoping the smell would go away. It, unfortunately, did not. We had our neighbors come over and smell the ribs, just to make sure we weren't going crazy. They agreed, the meat was bad. My husband wrapped the meat back up and tossed it in the freezer so it would stop stinking up our house and could be returned. Our friend brought the meat back to the butcher today and they kept the meat, but refused to give him a refund! One package was not even opened, they apparently refused to open it, and I bet they turn around and sell it to someone else. We looked this place up on Google after notifying our friend the meat was bad. Turns out they have a reputation of selling spoiled beef ribs and not refunding their customers. Do your research before buying!

The turkey was delicious- nice and juicy. While I was picking up my turkey, a woman came in and ordered a bone in prime rib roast that was almost 13 pounds; it looked amazing. So all primate is expensive no matter where you get it from even Costco and Sam's. Nothing is cheap these days but taste is something most people would pay a little extra for so this place is well worth it if you are preparing a special dinner.
