My Dad received a flyer at his work for the opening of this business. Being a lover of meat, BBQ and dabbling in semi retirement (meat) smoking he was naturally interested to try and asked if I'd like to tag along. Something along the lines of apples not falling far from trees comes to mind.
THE GOOD - the merchandise, sauce, condiment, spices and rubs section is awesome. Opening day provided plenty of perfectly stocked shelves catering to my OCD. I also found a steak weight for my partner but the hefty price tag held me back. The trading hours are peculiar (3am to 5pm) but is ideal for its industrial location. The business is a cafe and retail BBQ store.
Take this purely as a teething issue review as I genuinely feel this place has SO SO much potential!
THE BAD - it stinks! So we ate inside. There must be some sort of waste disposal plant nearby. Not great for appetites. The overpriced, under delivered chips. Seasoned beautifully but served pathetically. Size would be more suited to a child's portion. The chips are not shown on the menu so no price indicated, but we factored in $5-7 (higher end accounting for possible public holiday charges?). My advice would be to change the style of chip (something thick cut instead of fries) so it fills the cardboard container they were served in or use a bigger container to serve the burger and chips together. But most importantly don't skimp on the portion!! My partners smoked sausage burger. Opting for the chilli cheese kransky which by his low heat threshold had none to speak of. Either they gave him just the cheese one or they need to up the heat. The sliced sausage was overpowered by the slaw. Again this could be alleviated by being less stingy. There is no way there was a full kransky on that burger. Put it in a roll, reduce the slaw and give your customers the full sausage! A better system for ready food. The girls were struggling to be heard (it's a give your name, they call it out set up). A bell might be helpful. Old school I know but people know to listen up when it rings. Or put on an extra person and take them to the tables.
I have no doubt the minds behind this creation love BBQ but unless there is a high demand for the retail side of things, than their main use will be to feed the surrounding businesses. Unfortunately the cafe is the downfall at this point. I'd like to return in a few months to see if they have made any changes. read more
