First a disclaimer, I never made it inside the restaurant but stayed out on the patio because the…read moreweather was simply fabulous that night. Looked like everyone had the same idea. The patio overlooks the Tiergaertner Tor Platz and it was crowded like a beehive tonight. The huge plaza tree was lit up and thousands of folks enjoying their night on the patios of the surrounding restaurants, on the plaza benches, or even seated on the ground. Great ambiance all together. The staff was very attentive and we didn't seem to have an assigned server as any of them passing by checked to see if we needed anything. The menu here changes often, but also has a few staples and some innovative takes on our Franconian dishes. So we discovered Pretzel pizza... I was suspicious at first, reading the list of ingredients, but threw caution in the wind and went for the Franconian version (my friend opted for the Vegetarian). It really did sound horrible... laugen dough (which is what pretzels are made of), Schmarrn (related to sourcream, or cream cheese, but not quite the same), local brats, kraut, cheese and tomatoes. I was prepared for a nightmare... but it ended up being delicious. The pizzas were served with a mini salad topping the middle of it. The dough was nice and thin and had that typical nice chewy crust all around. The ingredients worked surprisingly well together, but could have done without the tomatoes. Visually they were a nice pop of colors, but tastewise they had no business on the Franconian Pretzel pizza. I didn't try the vegetarian version, but my friend, who is a tiny person, ate the entire thing, whereas I could only finish half of mine. So I would say she enjoyed it. I had the pana cotta with blueberry compote and was delighted to see the compote made from the small blueberries I grew up with instead of these huge overbred tasteless blueberries so common nowadays. Kudos to this place. Check it out if you are ever in the area.

While on a recent trip to Nuremberg, I found myself a guest of the Klinikum Nuremberg Nord. Having…read morehad my fill of hospital, after only two days, I escaped to find something palatable. I did a Google search and was surprised to find Crazy Nate's West Coast Tacos was only one block away. Now, I've tried numerous so-called 'Mexican Restaurants' all over the World, so I was skeptical at best. That said, I would have eaten just about anything, after suffering through two days of hospital food. Walking into Crazy Nate's West Coast Tacos, I was immediately surprised, when I heard a fella greet me, with a distinctive American accent. I thought 'hey, wait a minute. This might just be pretty good.' Nate reminds me of the typical California surfer type with his liberal use of the word 'dude.' You can almost smell the Pacific Ocean on him. Looking around the place, there were dining tables with snowboards as seats, wall art reminiscent of street graffiti, as well as other wall art like skateboards, Mexican religious icons and even a picture of Dolly Parton. With the excellent selection of music playing, the atmosphere was trendy and quaint. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, but as the outdoor tables were all full, I chose a nice table by an open window. A wide selection of beer and even the famous Mexican cola, Jarritos is available, along with frozen margaritas. I was excited to see the fresh salsa bar, but due to Covid-19, it was closed. While the menu had a good selection of items, as it was Taco Tuesday, and it is after all called Crazy Nate's West Coast Tacos, who am I to fight the system? So, up at the counter, I ordered three 'Crazy Nate Tacos' and a Modelo beer. At only €10.00, I found the price to be very reasonable being Europe. I'm sure I'd be paying a comparable price in the US. Instead of numbers for your order, you're given a laminated card with a variety of notable characters on them. Mine was none other than Elwood Blues, one of the Blues Brothers, the characters created by actors John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd. When my order was ready for pick up, Nate would shout the name associated with the order. It really livened things up. By 7:30PM, all of the tables, both in and out, were taken. There was even a line of food delivery guys waiting to pick up orders for people who ordered online. As all orders are made fresh and 'to order', the time from when I placed my order and received it was a bit long, but all in all, it was more than worth it. These were the absolute best 'street style' tacos that I'd ever had both in and out of the US. My overall opinion of Crazy Nate's West Coast Tacos is...FANTASTIC! If you're in Nuremberg, Germany, with two locations available, you have to go here. You will not be disappointed. Be sure to follow them on Facebook and Instagram, and tell them Bad Monkey Touring sent you.
