Is it me, or do all the vendors sell the same vegetables? Broccoli and asparagus were everywhere. I love both. I didn't know what to expect at all, I thought it's a place of food. But it's mostly groceries: - lots of fresh vegetables - lots of people - wine!!! lots of wine vendors. And I mean LOTS - one muffin bakery - lots of bread bakeries! - snacking, nuts stuff - olive oil - cheese - jams! As you can see, if you come hungry, there is nothing you can eat. However the one-and-only muffin bakery sells freshly baked sweets and this freshly baked tuna pizza thing!!!! I LOVED IT :) If I lived in Madrid, I would come here. I visited at 11AM and it was quite busy! I originally thought the 1€ was a required entrance fee, but no you just walk in for free.

It's worth it to get there early as the market favourites are sure to sell out! After you've made your way through the market, take your food finds down to the lake for a nice picnic!

Must gets include - jamón ibérico from Puesto Carrasco Ibéricos - olives and vermut from The Hour of the Vermouth - wine from Pinkleton & Wine - codfish from La Casa del Bacalao There's also a Spanish omelet vendor but it was okay. Great energy in the market. Can be difficult to find a seat at a table but there's plenty of standing counters along the perimeter.

We had just strolled from Plaza Mayor on a Monday afternoon at 4:30PM. It was completely packed like an indoor version of The Great Migration in really slow motion. We could hardly see any of the food much less be able to order anything or even less, find any place to eat it. Through the masses, I could tell it was a high-end gourmet hall, and apparently over thirty vendors do business here. I saw maybe two. Come at 10AM if you have any interest in trying the food here. The cacophonous late afternoon anarchy made us lose our appetites. If you think my assessment is unfair, I suggest you march off the cliff with the rest of the Instagram lemmings.
