Just picked up my new framing project. It's occurred to me that I've never acknowledged what great work they've done for me over the years. As I look around my office there are no less than 6 framed pictures they've so masterfully completed. There at least as many at home. I've had multiple pieces of art framed here over the years; I have always appreciated Alexa's artistic eye and her recommendations, and my art has always been beautifully framed. Recently I had Frugal Frames frame a series of paintings I had bought in Europe. They were beautifully framed as usual, and when I picked them up I lamented to Alexa that because I have no eye for design, I was dreading figuring out how to hang them in a gallery wall format. Ever since Alexa cleaned up and repaired the painting of my mother that we used for her funeral, I have been back a couple of times to have memorial items framed as well as recently, two extremely large pieces that would bring much needed warmth and color to our main living room in our new home. Alexa again, knowing our modern tastes, was able to take photos of the room and the actual prints themselves and recommend the perfect frame and matte. I have been collecting concert posters since college but without a time term place to put them kept them in their tubes for years. After moving into a house with my wife I decided it was time to frame them and hang them up on the wall so I could actually enjoy them. I started looking online for framing options and saw some people had done the Michael's personal framing route while others had gone to a frame shop. I had a lot of posters (19!) that I wanted framed. I went to one frame shop and they tried to push me towards aluminum frames that I thought looked cheap and wanted an arm and a leg for any mat board. I kept looking and saw frugal frames had good reviews and wanted to give a try. I went in and Alexa was great in working with me. She asked me what I had in mind and gave her feedback and showed me options that she recommended that I hadn't even thought about. She worked with me on pricing that fit my budget while creating an amazing look for all of my posters. We would lay them out one at a time and go over mat color options to really make them pop. We've had a few paintings/collectables framed by Frugal Frames over the past 6 years. They perform excellent work. We have tried getting our pieces framed at the larger chain stores, but they were not comparable in price or quality to Frugal Frames. I have accumulated many certificates and other items worthy of framing over a career of almost 20 years in the Army. I took a couple pieces in and Alexa immediately made me feel at ease as she focused solely on me and my style. Through a unique system, she was able to walk me through the various style and color options available while she developed a sense of my personal preferences. The end result was a beautiful framed product that was far better than anything I could pick out myself and that helped tie together many different styles of decoration that we have in the same room. I don't think it's necessary to write a review for good service, if you're in business good service should be your mantra. However, I am compelled to write about my experience with Frugal Frames. I walked into the quaint shop and was greeted by the warmest individual, Alexa. She was knowledgeable, informative and welcoming. Aside from that the shop was an array of interesting pictures both prints and originals for sale. I can't tell you how impressed I was with the art, let alone her great assortment of frames for sale. Buying art/frames isn't something you have to have, but if you do, don't miss this great little shop that is the best and beats the cold indifference of the chain shops. Frugal Frames has been doing all of my framing for around 20 years, first on Pine street and now in Montgomeryville (I was so thrilled they followed me out to the suburbs!) I've looked around, but always come back. The owners/artists Alexa and Mark are both extremely talented, warm people. They each have an excellent eye for color and a knack for picking matting and a frame that brings out the best in whatever you're framing. Unlike most places these days, they do all the work themselves, so they can handle any project. They have a great frame selection, from simple to exotic to dramatic, in a wide range of prices. I'm no world class art collector, but the frame often makes the painting or picture, and I have to say, these folks are the real deal. With 2 stores, one is center city Philly and the other in the suburbs of Montgomeryville, husband and wife team Mark and Alexa are the best of Philly when it comes to quality framing at a fair price. I have taken several pieces to them over the last few years, the latest recently an heirloom that I needed to be updated. Alexa was awesome, deconstructed it professionally in front of me, and walked me through what she planned to do. A week later she was finished and I couldn't be happier. And all at a very fair price. I had a special picture I needed to have remounted, updated frame and new glass for a coworker who was retiring. I brought it into Frugal Frames.
