We did the Tangier Cultural tour on Sunday, 20 November 2016 for €59 per person. The ferry left Tarifa at 11 am and was back past 8 pm.
It was a very good value considering it included everything--roundtrip tickets on the Tarifa-Tangier ferry, an FRS representative to handle all the hassles in both ports, a multilingual guide in Tangier, lunch, and a big tour bus for the 2nd half of the tour.
The whole day was well-organized.
Kudos to the FRS representative (young Spanish woman) who took care of everything on the ferry on both sides. All we had to do was complete the white and yellow customs forms, show our passports once before leaving Tarifa, and only one more time upon arrival back in Tarifa. She made sure we were always informed of what we needed to do and where we needed to be. She did her job very well.
Rashid was our local guide in Tangier. He was the best part of the tour. He was very affable, cheerful, funny, always laughing and joking about his suegra (mother-in-law). He gave the tour in English, Spanish, and French. He also made sure we were on schedule and together at all times.
The tour itself is ok. Not outstanding, not excellent. But good.
The best parts were the casbah, the ride on the big tour bus that took us on a scenic ride of Tangier, the cave of Hercules, and the camel ride. The big bus driver, an older Berber gentleman, was also very good at his job.
Lunch at Restaurant Hamadi: the beef skewers were excellent, chicken and couscous were good. The live music (four men playing traditional music) was average.
The worst parts were the medina, stopping at a fabric store and a spice shop, and the 45-minute break in the middle of a crowded commercial area that was teeming with aggressive street vendors.
Advice to FRS: There was no pressure to buy anything at the fabric store and the spice shop, but it would be better to skip those altogether and use that time in other truly cultural places.
All in all, I recommend this tour if you have limited time in Tarifa and want to do a quick tour of Tangier. read more
