Took the ferry from Tarifa to Tangier and back. Price was reasonable. The ship was OK but a bit…read moreworn (we took ferries in Croatia this fall and they were much nicer). Leaving Tarifa for some unknown reason we left 20 minutes late. Returning it was on time. I would have thought these ferries would be faster but perhaps given the choppy conditions given the convergence of the Med Sea and the Atlantic Ocean they could not go faster. Going through customs on the boat going to Tangiers was a bit slow. Returning to Spain make sure to leave enough time to clear customs in Tangiers since it also seemed slow. Overall we got there and back without capsizing...

Parking in Tarifa was easy and not as expensive for daily parking as we had assumed it might be. Sphew!! We got there a little over an hour early, and we were able to get on the earlier boat to get into Tanger earlier. It was awesome!!! The team on the way back also let us get on the earlier boat... They did seem to want something in exchange ($$), even though we'd also offered to upgrade to premium. Interesting considering that we hadn't gotten that impression of Tanger while we were in town for the weekend. There are snacks aboard, and on the way from Tarifa to Tanger, we could do passport/ customs on the ship. Super convenient!!!

We stayed in Tarifa the evening we came back from a day trip to Tangier. This hotel was lovely…read more Our room was very tiny, but the bed was comfortable, the room clean, and the decor just lovely. The bathroom was also very tiny, but clean, and stocked with the usual amenities. Some notes: -It can get VERY loud. The rooms all face out on the bar area which can disrupt your sleep if you're in bed before midnight. Bring earplugs. The night we were there they were having a huge party and there was a man playing the guitar and singing. We actually opened the windows of our room to listen, but if you are trying to sleep, this might be an issue. -There is free wifi in the lobby. Just ask the front desk for a password. -They will stow your bags for you if you arrive and your room is not ready. -Free buffet breakfast that was quite good. We enjoyed mimosas and toast in their lovely cafe. There is yogurt, ham, cheese, and coffee available as well. -No television in the room. We didn't care, but if that matters to you, just an FYI. -There is a small shop and a spa on site if you're so inclined. I think we paid 75 euros for our room and it was worth every penny. It's close to the dock if you're planning on taking the ferry to Tangier, and also walkable from the bus station if you arrive that way. (We took the bus from Sevilla.) Highly recommended if you're in Tarifa!

Hotel stays aren't determined by fixtures, fittings or facilities, though - it's the time you have that make them. And the time we had was fantastic. We had a great meal in the buzzy bar/restaurant (a mixture of local tuna and local beef, if memory serves), a stroll round the block on a summer's evening for a couple more drinks followed by a great night's sleep. The next morning, up for breakfast and a wander round the lovely old town (which the hotel is at the heart of). Objectively speaking, La Sacristia was good. But for some reason we just had an amazing time - so I'll always remember it very fondly.
