We somehow got a table directly next to the band and had a wonderful time, let folks come and sit with us, got Guinness with Blackcurrant (which depending on who you ask is WRONG ... They sell tee-shirts and tourist patronize this place, on account of it being a very old, beautiful Irish pub, but there were a few locals enjoying a pint when we stopped in. One of the owners is American, and I was surprised to see JFK Memorabilia in the smaller room. They have antique oil lamps, old firearms and assorted things on display for patrons to muse. They proudly serve Bushmills and even their own brand of Crosskeys Whisky, but I got a gin and tonic and enjoyed the Northern Irish craic that was on full supply on this June day.

Sadly it was the worst decision I've made in a good long while. Simply put it was awful, we ordered 3 steaks two medium and one medium to well. Well the chef seems to only know how to cook well done as that's what all the steaks were cooked to. I sent mine back but my parents were content to eat it. Well I waited a further 20 mins for a new steak so we aren't off to a good start. Then all of our sides were forgotten about and it took a further 10 mins for them to come out, my veg couldn't fit in the bowl and the broccoli ended up mopping all the lovely germs off the table (for that extra flavour). My mother's salad was wilted beyond belief and looked like a bowl of mush and my partners garlic bread was completely forgotten about. As I waited 20 mins for my new steak to come out and it was well done again so I took one bite and couldn't eat it and my side was cold anyway so I finished my meal there I asked to speak to a manager/supervisor and was told the supervisor would be right over. I got a normal member of staff as they don't have a manager at all and their supervisors are all off. So I asked if the chef was in and to no ones surprise he was off too. So it seems that no one past a waiter/chef works here. All in all it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had in a restaurant. 3 meals,2 starters and 3 drinks cost me £75( my steak and sides were taken off the bill) At least dick Turpin wore a mask when he robbed people!. The tables by the entrance are the best but don't be fooled by the small appearance its like Dr who's tardis as the space through the next set of doors there's a massive room for dining or dancing. You have to park in a car park on the opposite side of the road which is a bit inconvenient but its just added character and the food was nice too. We'd love to go back sometime soon .

As for the food, we have eaten in a lot of places in a number of countries but this was as good as anything we have come acrooss. And the finishing touch was dining beside the huge log fire on a freezing winter night. It was so good that we went back another couple of times during our week's stay. We are going ti Ireland again shortly on holiday and Saltwater Brig will be our number one priority for another visit. We were back in Ireland for another holiday in November. The Saltwater Brig was top of our agenda for a return visit.......and we weren't disappointed. Once again everything about it was superb - the beautiful location beside Strangford Lough, the cosy surroundings and the welcoming staff (especially Olive who is the friendliest waitress you could meet). The picture I posted is of the Fanad Head Lighthouse which is just a few hundred yards down the hill and from which the pub gets it's name. The scenery in the surrounding peninsula is stunning and the local people will make you feel very much at home. If you go to Ireland then you should not miss out on visiting this gem.
