Finally able to get in for my "Transition" color and style!!! I was so excited to see Karen this morning that I arrived about 10 mins early!! So first things, first... COVID-19 protocols are no joking matter for Maggie, the owner, she is in it, to win it! She takes her role in protecting her team of professionals and her customers very seriously. So, be prepared, you will be expected to agree to a forehead temp check, sign a waiver and wash your hands. (Not sure how this is working now - June). I loved this salon!! The receptionist, owner and my stylist, Karen, were so welcoming, down to earth professionals, encouraging and knowledgeable. I love my color and cut! I don't live here, I was here for a 2 week vacation and wanted to get a new look before returning home. My friends thought I was crazy using someone I had no experience with... I have No regrets! It was a fabulous experience that exceeded my expectations! I highly recommend this group! Ps. They are also very compassionate and caring, I was blessed with observing an older gentleman bringing his wife in for a cut and maybe a color. It appeared as though she may have experienced a stroke, and had difficulty verbalizing. Maggie was so compassionate and caring to both the husband and wife, upon their entering the shop. Would not recommend for short hair cuts. Was told they were a precision hair cutting salon prior to booking. I provided a clear reference and they missed the mark. After my hair was cut I went to great clips to get it blended. I'm so disappointed. Will need to wait for my hair to grow out to get it fixed. Paid $105. Terrible experience! I had my color/ formula from my previous aveda spa and this salon ruined my blonde hair color. They turned my hair a brassy color. The owner Maggie and her assistant tried to fix my hair and only made it worse. I looked worse leaving the salon. I suspect her products were old and this is why my color did not take correctly. Maggie then charged me double the price saying it was my fault that my formula did not work. I paid the amount and then the next day called Maggie to discuss why she charged me double the price and she basically said no refunds and hung up on me. I reported this incident to corporate aveda. I have been going to aveda salons for 15 years and never had a bad experience until I went to this salon. I would not recommend this salon especially if you are a blonde!! read more

I called too book a blowout and conditioning treatment and a highlight in the future and they wont book app without credit card and email. She should of told me that before because she said your info goes in the cloud . Ok , all my info is out there for someone too steal. Thats there policy she said . So I cancelled . So They charge you if you dont show up . Ok well I booked the app for the next day, its not like a month out . Get a clue how to run a business . I was looking forward an Aveda salon when I moved to the area and fortunately I found Fringe. All three of the ladies there on staff are friendly and very good at what they do. They take Covid precautions seriously, so I felt safe. Maggie has cut and colored my hair several times. She listens to what I want and makes great suggestions and I always leave with great hair. I highly recommend this salon. And Mary will greet you and take care of your appointments and she is the best! They are all so sweet and friendly. read more

I found Maggie 8 years ago when I was searching for someone who knew what to do with my voluminous hair. Over the years I have trusted her to design new and interesting cuts that have all been winners! Recently, a new hire, Madison, has been doing wonders with my color. She is great! Aveda products are all natural and I wouldn't use anything else on my hair. HIGHLY recommend. I was visiting HHI for two months this winter and needed to find an Aveda Salon for my once per month hair upkeep. There was only one choice on the Island. Not sure why it only had 3 stars??!! Maggie and her team, Debbi and Madeline, took great care to match my roots and highlight formula. They took the time to evaluate my hair to make the best formula choice. Maggie was very efficient in returning phone calls. Madeline did an excellent job with foils and gave the most amazing shampoo experience... not rushed and very relaxing!! Debbi took the time to do my new-growth color effectively. When I moved to the area one of my first tasks was finding an Aveda salon, and I was thrilled to find Fringe! I had one of the best haircuts ever - seriously, fabulous! I've had some awesome stylists in different areas, but this was as good if not better. It's low maintenance, flattering and makes my hair full without looking bushy. I went back for color and it was a bit different an experience. It was a lengthy process - I did highlights and a glaze - and in the salon it looked nice. I asked for warm highlights without red tones if possible, and it looked fine in the salon. When I got home, though, and saw my hair outside in the sun and then inside the house, I cried - yes, literally, cried. The highlights were reddish, but a step beyond - they were downright orange. A metallic orange. It literally looked like someone combed chunks of my hair with a rusty comb. It was horrible. I contacted my stylist, and while she thought it was a lighting issue, she was very nice about it and offered to do a different glaze - I think she was even fitting me in during her lunch hour, which was unbelievably generous. I wore hats and washed and conditioned my hair repeatedly in the meantime. The good news is, after about 4-5 days, the metallic rusty-brassy shine toned down and the bright orange faded to a caramel/reddish blend. It was a HUGE relief - I canceled my re-glaze appointment, which, again, was very nice of her to offer. The color did a decent job of coloring my grays that have started popping up, which is hard to do on brunettes. Again, FABULOUS cut - I could not be happier with it. The color caused some initial panic, but overall is pretty good. My color experience could very well be the exception rather than the norm for color outcomes, so you may want to give it a try. I wholeheartedly recommend Fringe for cut and style. read more

I had a disappointing first (and last) visit to Fringe. I had made my appointment for 1 pm. I was met at the door for check in and told that my stylist was running behind. At first I was asked how I felt about waiting 30 minutes. Then the receptionist and the stylist were discussing her 2 pm appointment and they actually asked me how I felt about re-scheduling for another day so that she could promptly see her 2 pm appointment. So I said I am already here, why don't you call the 2 pm appointment ask her if she is okay with being pushed back. So they both went back inside and the receptionist came back out a few minutes later that they had it worked out if I could wait about thirty minutes so I sad down outside to wait. When they actually called me in, I had to wait about 10 more minutes. Then a different stylist came over and did my cut and blow dry. I was shocked when I went to pay and discovered the haircut was $85.00. This is the kind of price I would expect to pay at the upscale spa/salon I went to in metro Atlanta for years with a top tier stylist. However this is clearly NOT that kind of salon. For that price I should have a one stop salon experience with manicures/pedicures, complimentary hand paraffin dip, wonderful neck and head massage with the hair washing. Fringe is clearly not that kind of salon. It is a very basic salon lacking in any kind of ambience that would justify what they charge for a plain haircut and blow dry. I guess if others people are willing to pay that for a haircut good for them, but, I will be the one to tell you this emperor is naked. Oh, and when I left I was given a "gift" for my wait. It was three teeny tiny skin care samples that were not worth the bag they put them in. read more

What a great experience I had with, first a fabulous head, neck, shoulder massage...then a typical wash and cut! She did a GREAT job and we had such fun chatting, too! I had a fantastic experience today at Fringe! I was greeted with a delicious cup of tea (that I ended up buying a box of) and a warm neck wrap before Janet started on my squirrel's nest of hair. After almost a year of teaching for the 1st time in public ed. I had really let myself go and needed a major tune-up. The salon's owner welcomed me warmly as a 1st time customer which was very nice as well. Janet and I talked about the right color for my hair and a cut that would be easy to take care of with lots of movement. As she snipped away it almost felt equivalent to pounds coming off (wouldn't that be great?) I ended up so happy and excited, wishing I had done this months earlier but glad I had finally bit the bullet and made the call. I moved from Chicago, where I had great no fuss haircuts. I loved my hairdressers and their looking at my face shape,my hair, life style and personality. I thought I could never match it in Hilton Head. Then I found Maggie and Hanna. Maggie has training that emphases the cut and that's exactly what she accomplished for me. I went to Fringe for partial highlights. While the stylist was very nice and I was happy with my highlights, I would not recommend Fringe. My final bill was nearly double the price that I was quoted when making the appointment. In addition to other add ons, I received a basic blowout that I was made to believe was part of the highlight package which cost an additional ~$45 (an insane price to pay for a blowout in general and a service that is typically included with highlights). Had I known I would have done it myself. Fringe was not upfront about any additional costs. read more

I absolutely loved my experience at Fringe salon. Jessica did my color and cut and was extremely knowledgeable and did an amazing job on both the cut and the color. I went in there with a lot of gray and many different tones of color. She evened all my colors out beautifully, got rid of my gray, and used a glaze for shine. She then recommended a cut that framed my face and was long just the way I like it. I will continue to go there to get my haircut and colored and would recommend it to anyone. read more

I got in the same day and Janet created a work of art with my hair! I absolutely love it! This is quite possibly the best haircut I've ever had. I had a very unsatisfactory experience with Maggie at Fringe Salon. Got hair cut and color services, on 11/23/2019. We agreed on a haircut to the collar bone but the cut ended up 3/4 inch shorter. She had difficulty getting both sides even, so in going back and forth on that, it ended up shorter. She shared that she is working towards retiring due to hand pain/shakiness, which was unsettling but I trusted she wouldn't keep working if she was unable to cut hair evenly. In response to my concern over the length, she claimed that hair shrinks after it is under heat elements and therefore, I should have expected it to end up shorter, once blow dried. It seems to me that the professional should account for that and the client should leave the studio with the length requested. The bigger concern however was with the color, which is quite an expense so you expect to actually see color. We agreed on an all over dark brown base color, which itself was just fine. But then, to add red highlights, which was an additional $95. I shared that I like pops of color and dimension/want to be able to see the color but of course have it well blended. Her retort when I shared concern over seeing no evidence of any red highlights was that I wanted "softness," which I had never said. I chose Maggie because she was advertised as very experienced. The end result was brown hair with no visible red highlights. In paying $280 (plus $40 tip...quite a bit of pressure to tip there), it was very upsetting to have this result! I went to Maggie directly in hopes of resolution, which I always prefer over writing a negative review. I expressed that the haircut wasn't ideal but I was fine with it (trying to be gracious and compromising). I had hoped that she would at least reimburse for the highlighting portion of my bill. This was met with zero empathy, zero refund, and not even an offer to fix it/make it right (unless I wanted to "book a new appointment and pay for more highlights"....seriously?!). Anyone can have a bad day or make mistakes but what really upsets me is that Maggie took absolutely no ownership and cared not at all to make it right. She simply made justifications and even said things that were untrue about what we had agreed upon. I would strongly encourage you to go elsewhere for hair services. read more

The worst experience ever !! I was really upset after I visited Fringe , had my appointment at 10 and I left at 1:30 almost 3 hrs ( I have short hair btw ) I only wanted to dye my roots and tone my hair in platinum ,my hair dresser had grey short hair and she told me that she is from New York but lives in the island for couple years already. she try to bleach my roots for 30 mins after that it just got ginger which I needed to be blonde not ginger !I let her know this , and she added more bleach for 15mins which I couldn't take it since I was feeling pain and burning sensation. When she took it out there was way more ginger !! She was trying to fix it with more toner and toners , so she decided to left me there to take her next appointment and tell the receptionist to wash my hair and finish her job. She never came back to ask me how it was or anything , or even if I needed to dry my hair . The receptionist did ask me if I wanted my hair dry I told her yes. So I left with ginger roots and a dirty grey color in my hair instead of silver. We all made mistakes but this grey short woman from New York didn't care about fixing it, bad customer service. I still tip 20$. Thanks to the receptionist for helping and doing somebody's job. read more

I have what you call combination hair.....in other words.....extremely difficult to style. Some parts curly, some parts wavy and the rest just plain flat. And lets add a couple of cowlicks and a double crown. What a find Fringe was for me a year ago. I absolutely love the entire staff, they all make me feel special. Maggie works magic on my hair. I just recently moved to Hilton Head from Ohio and have been using one Aveda Salon for over 15 years. I gave Fringe my stylists information for my color that he used for the past 15 years. The stylists at Fringe did not use his information and I now have a dark line down my hairline due to the drastic dark color choice they made. I called to ask them to correct and they said it had to grow out and they would never use the color my previous Aveda stylist used. I requested a partial refund as they over charged me and they also refused. If new to HHI, do not go to Fringe! read more
