Simply Country Gifts & Southern Belles Tea Room

This is a older house. Beautiful house. The first floor is where all the action happens. There are…read more2 main tea rooms. One is on the left side of the house. It's a private room that probably seats 6 people or 8. The other room has one large and 3 smaller tables. The sitting areas are all so beautifully decorated. The theme of the tea party is victorian with a touch of southern charm. There is also a large room that is a gift shop. There is a Christmas theme through out the gift shop. Onto the main reason I was there! Afternoon Tea. I had hot strawberry tea. I loved it! It wasn't light either. It was brewed the way I like. Thankfully, this is a proper tea room which had sugar cubes! The tea tray was brought out and it was decorated perfectly. The bottom plate had 2 different types of scones: strawberry with a strawberry sauce and buttermilk. Lemon curd and clotted cream are also served. The scones were more like biscuits. I think they were both buttermilk and the strawberry one just had a strawberry glaze. Both tasted very much like good buttery biscuits.... Not so scone-like to me. Second plate: tea sandwiches: popular cream cucumber sandwich, half croissants of egg and/or tuna, and pin wheel meat sandwiches. Everything is one per person. Except for the scones, 2 for each. Third and top layer is the dessert plate: 3 desserts per persons: a strawberry shortcake, a chocolate brownie, and a red valet short cake. They were ok. Ah. Unlimited tea! Each person can a pick different tea. Unlike some tea room that only allows 1 or 2 pots per table. Although, we weren't given a tea menu. We were given two tea options. The owners are very sweet. It's so obvious that they love what they are doing. They are ready to retire and would love to sell this building as a tea room business. It seems like they have potential buyers that are more interested in demolishing it. What a shame! They are hopeful that they can find a buyer who appreciates tea and continues the tea room. Overall, this place is beautiful in and out. However, the only item that stood out was the egg salad and the tuna salad croissants, tea, and cucumber sandwich. The clotted cream was unimpressive. 3.5... Rounding up to 4/5. I like how they change up their menu throughout the year. Give this a try. It's not my first choice but it's definitely my second. I would hate to see this place close! Tear... Afternoon tea music playing. I love sipping on tea and chatting away for hours. I will finish by asking the ladies: if you are visiting a tea room, for goodness sake... Do not wear jeans!!! Drop those denim..!!!!!

A Florida Gem! I was told that I wasn't a true Floridian until I spent an afternoon at Parkesdale…read moreFarm Market and I am so glad that I made the trek (and apparently am now a true Floridian- somebody get my membership card to me!). The plants are gorgeous and beautifully cultivated for the location and for sale. The produce is a combination of local and seasonal varieties as well as uniquely acquired varieties such as pink pineapple. The canned items are an abundance of what Florida farms can provide your pantry. Lastly, the strawberry desserts are the perfect way to end a visit to this historic cornerstone of Plant City! We went in February, toward the tail end of strawberry season, so shortcake was already out of season but their strawberry sundaes and shakes make pretty fantastic treats, too! Strawberry Festival time is the busiest of times, so know that traffic will be thick and parking will be sparse if you venture to this landmark during the festival weeks. Just enjoy some old Florida charm and treats check their website for hours and season specials!

PLEASE NOTE: STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE SEASON STARTS IN JANUARY. Apparently there's a season for the…read morestrawberry shortcake. I was driving from Tampa to Orlando in August and saw a bunch of signs for the "world famous" strawberry shortcake but couldn't get any :( there should really be a sign that details when the shortcake is available if it isn't going to be available year round but those signs are. It was pretty disappointing not being able to have it. I opted to get a strawberry bread (apparently it's always season for that) when I was there and it was really good! I wasn't quite in the mood for a milkshake, but the milkshakes are supposedly good here as well. Besides the strawberry treats, there is a whole store inside with a variety of jams, hot sauces, and merchandise as well as fresh fruit and veggies for sale. The seating area is really adorable (you can see it in the picture I posted). I guess I'll just have to come back during shortcake season to let you know if it's worth the "world famous" title.
