Believe the hype about this endodontist. I basically look at Dr. Soluti as the Chuck Norris of endodontists. Here's what's up: When he did my root canal there was ZERO pain. I mean nothing at all. I can now proudly say that "I'd rather have a root canal" while doing many of the unpleasant things that I have to do in life (waiting in line at Trader Joes, separating the trash from the recyclables, doing my tax return). Dr. Soluti is a perfectionist when it comes to his work, and you can tell. That means that he might take longer to do some things, or that he will do an x-ray several times, but don't you want perfection when it comes to someone rooting around inside your teeth? The other thing that's cool is that the office doesn't just view this as a "one and done" procedure. All of their follow-up appointments and xrays are complimentary. And apparently they keep an eye on your tooth for a couple of years. The one thing that might be better is if they had a TV that you could watch during your procedure. I know it's a little snobby, but 1.5 hours with your mouth open can get quite boring. read more

OK, I'm new to DC as well. So I went to a dentist that was near where I lived and covered by my insurance. He told me I needed a root canal and said he could do it right then and there if I wanted to save the time. He warned me that I should take care of it right away etc. I thought I should get a second opinion so I went to Dr. Soluti. Guess what? I didn't need a root canal at all. Dr. Soluti was prepared to give me a root canal, but when I went in he ran a few tests, did a few xrays and still no need for a root canal. He could have easily drilled away and made a handsome sum, but instead he told me the truth. He's a good man and I'll go to him for any other problems I have. Highly Highly Recommended! Dr. Soluti is a sweet old man who is so careful to make sure his patients are well informed and comfortable during all exams and procedures. Without dental insurance, I called around town for the cheapest rate for a root canal and Soluti had the best price. I really appreciated his policy to include all x-rays and examinations in the total so what he tells you upfront is what you'll pay. I will say, bring an ipod with something to drown out the buzzing of drills... while you won't feel anything, the noises paint a picture in your mind. read more

I am new to DC and broke a tooth. I was referred to Dr. Soluti by a general practice dentist to check out my tooth before putting a crown on the broken tooth. Dr. Soluti gave me an appointment with 24 hours of the referral and stayed late on a holiday weekend to perform the root canal. He and his staff were incredibly competent, friendly, and considerate. I can't believe I'm about to rave about a ROOT CANAL, but here goes! I had a root canal with Dr. Soluti, and it was awesome -- thank you, yelpers, for the referral to Dr. S! Everything that everyone before me has said is true -- the experience was pain free, and I almost fell asleep during it (!??!). I'm usually gripping the armrests way too tight to even relax, let alone almost fall asleep, but the experience was painless, and I had complete faith in Dr. S. I had no pain, truly, and I'm usually the patient who needs two -- if not three -- shots of anesthesia to take the edge off. Anyway, If I ever have to have another RC, I won't go to anyone else -- no way. Good dentists (and competent front desk staff, which Dr. S has) are few and far between. read more

Came to Dr Soluti for a second opinion after the endodontist we went to did some questionable work ($2400 for an hour an a half). Dr Soluti was amazing. He took X-rays of his own and opined that the work was not the best but was good enough - no work needed for now. You know you have an honest dentist when he tells you you need nothing and he didn't charge us a penny out of pocket.. We agreed to follow up with him in 3 months. Just as importantly, he is such a nice guy. Here's a tip - if a dentist has no website or a poor / barely existant one (like Dr Soluti), you're probably on to a good dentist who does not need any slick marketing because he gets his patients by word of mouth. I went to Dr. Soluti two years ago for a root canal. He was so professional and just a sweet man. All of his technology is state of the art and you can basically watch the procedure on his computer as he goes if you want. He answers all questions fully (maybe he over explains and can be seen as condescending in that sense) and I appreciated knowing exactly what was happening to mouth at all times. I have a very sensitive mouth and he gave me TONS of Novocaine... until I couldn't feel a thing! My dentist put a bum cap on my tooth and I have had a world of problems because of the cap. I have gone to 2 other endodontists since my root canal w/ Dr. Soluti and they have both said that it is a remarkable and beautiful root canal- one even called it perfect. I think he is the best in his field and I would recommend him to anyone needing serious dental work! read more

Root canals aren't so bad, really. I've had two now and they've both been completely painless and trouble-free. You know, after the soul-crushing pain of the infection dies down and they actually get to work. Dr. Soluti is a fine practitioner. He explained everything he was going to do, used caution in treating me, gave me options in my care and charged me what I guess is a fair amount. I appreciate that the billing was done up front and subsequent check-ups have been free. He also said that the infection I had in my tooth was "quite impressive" so maybe it was complicated and difficult to treat? Anyway, he did his thing over several visits (again, at the same cost of "root canal") and my check-ups thus far have been good. As far as I can tell, he's a great endodontist. OMG if you have to get a root canal I can't tell you how pleasant Dr. Soluti was for an unpleasant experience. I got a bad filling from a dentist a year ago and it felt weird ever since. Bad news - root canal. But the good news is that Dr. Soluti is a sweet, soft spoken, grandfatherly-type who is very conscientious about what he does. During the procedure he stopped several times and took x-rays to make sure that his work was accurate (something i wish the original dentist had done, not to worry though, that was in Oregon). And after the procedure he insists on two follow-up appointments to make sure there aren't any complications or errors. I will say he's expensive but he works with a lot of insurance companies and that helped tremendously. His work is well worth the money and his office uses great technology for precise work (digital x-rays, etc.) He was very nice, professional, and truly concerned about the quality of his work. Wish they were all this good. I am sorry that Sasha had a bad experience because I can only sing his praises. I didn't detect any of the problems that she experienced. Likely as a result of too many late night cups of wine and all-night caramel latte study binges in college, I've now had 2 root canals. Root Canal #1, performed many years ago by an endodontist in Ballston (whose name I have apparently banished from memory in a fit of self-protective amnesia) was a NIGHTMARE. My experience was rude, painful, demeaning, uncomfortable in every way. Fast forward to just a few years ago when it came time for Root Canal #2. Can we say "Petrified"? My dentist gave me a black and white printout with the names, addresses and phone numbers of endodontists covered by my insurance. Since dental reviews were not yet quite prolific on the internet, I was again forced to pick at random. By some MIRACLE, I picked Friendship Endodontics. What a difference. Dr. Soluti was kind, patient and caring. He seemed very knowledgeable and almost literally radiated calm. Honestly, my strongest memory of my second root canal is simply a feeling of profound relief and gratefulness that I found someone so competent and caring. read more

Dr. Soluti is professional, gentle, and a kind person. I have unusually bad teeth so he has bi annual check ups with me to be sure that my root canals (yes, plural) are in good standing. The receptionists are always friendly and remember my name and why I am there. It is the little things, but at Dr. Soluti's office you feel like a person, and not cattle being hearded in and out. what a disappointment. I have a problem with a tooth (crack in tooth) and was referred to Dr Soluti by my dentist. I had no problem getting an appointment and of course shared all my insurance information when scheduling. When I got there and filled out all the paper work, and waited 15mins, I then was told that the initial consultant was going to be $395! I was shocked. Even the work would be covered by the insurance apparently the code they wanted to use meant that the consultation would not be covered. Why I wasn't told this before hand is crazy and how a 5-10 consult, especially when the dentist sent all my records over explaining the exact issue, can cost $395 is equally crazy. I can't comment on the practice as I had to leave not being able to pay that much. read more

Dr. Soluti performed what he called "one of the most difficult" root canals he's ever done on my front tooth. I was referred to him because my damaged tooth was so calcified, it seemed like there wasn't a canal left. He took x-rays, saw some infection that concerned him, and after discussing options with him, I elected to try to find the canal. My root canal was extremely pleasant! He was caring, sensitive to any discomfort I might have, and was persistent in finding the canal. I had nearly zero pain - and as soon as I did have some pain, he stopped to administer more local anesthesia to ensure I was comfortable. Dr. Soluti was able to save the tooth (and my wedding)! Two things to keep in mind, though: (1) He can be difficult to understand and may not be clear in communicating himself the first time, but he makes up for that with extreme patience and a willingness to go over options again and again until you feel comfortable; (2) He shares an office with a pediatric dentist, and so the constant screaming of children may be unnerving at first, but you get used to it. read more

Dr Soluti is wonderful. After my dentist started my root canal and could not complete it I was referred to Dr Soluti. His office made time for me that afternoon. He took his own x-rays and sat me down and drew on the x-rays to show me exactly why I was in so much pain and what he would do about it. My root canal, the following day, took about 3. 5 hours and was not painless but it was in no way the fault of Dr. Soluti. He made sure that I was numb and stayed numb for the whole procedure. Simply having my mouth open for that long hurt a lot, as did the more complicated closing of my extra canal. He worked quickly but there was a lot of work as my tooth's nerves were twisting in unusual ways and that there were extra canals. Dr Soluti took x-rays several times throughout the procedure to ensure that he was being very careful. He was very methodical. He sat me down after and went through each x-ray to show me what he did. I am allergic to latex and he reassured me that every material he used was latex free. As he worked he checked on whether I was comfortable. He described how he taught dental school for many years, and spoke to his dental assistant respectfully. I would recommend him to anyone. His office took my UnitedHealthcare Dental and even offered me a payment plan for what I could not immediately cover. read more

When you mention root canal, I (and everyone I know) get chills. I've had 3 root canals and each one was extremely painful. But, OMG, with Dr. Soluti, I didn't have 'any' pain. Absolutely none, I actually left his office and went to work because I felt so good. I had to have a repeat root canal, a terrible infection at the end of the root and to top it off, I have very strange roots so to say that this was a complicated procedure, is an understatement. It took two 3.5 hour sessions to complete the work. I was so relaxed during the procedure, I fell asleep a few times. He took time to explain everything to me in great detail. I had a great experience with Dr. Soluti. He performed my root canal in mid-2012 and it was completely painless. He was very caring and took great lengths to make sure I was comfortable. Before the procedure and during it, he was very informative and explained all my options and what was being done. Needless to say, the root canal was (and still is) a full success. The cost of the procedure was totally fair, and it included regular follow-ups for free (a follow-up within a week of the procedure, 3 months later and 9 months later), which is just another sign how much Dr. Soluti cares about the quality of his work. THANK YOU YELPERS! My fancy regular dentist referred me to fancier endodontist (that doesn't participate w/ any insurance) when he determined I needed a root canal. I decided to do a little research and came across Dr. Soluti on Yelp. I called for an appointment and they immediately answered all my insurance questions and took my insurance info over the phone so they could calculate my out of pocket cost before my procedure. Very upfront and very reasonable. This office charged roughly $500 less than the practice my dentist suggested. It is a modest practice but they have all the latest equipment and are very professional. I will second all the comments and reviews that other yelpers have given, and I'd like to add that what I like most about Dr. Soluti's office is the genuine caring and personal touch that you just don't get from most Dr's offices these days. I walked out of my appointment at 7:30, he spent 2.5 hrs on my root canal making sure it was PERFECT. I left without my prescription (which i totally forgot about) and he called me at 8:30 that night, and then he called it into the pharmacy for me so I could pick it up ASAP! I just got a call from the office today, 2 days later, just CHECKING IN ON ME to see how i'm feeling! Who does that these days? All i know is that if you can find a Dr. that truly still cares about the health and comfort of their patients then you stick with them! read more

Dr. Soluti needed a closer look with his x-ray, this was the third one I was getting, first from him. An appointment at 130pm (I completed my forms by 120pm) and for me to be examined at 245pm is just unreasonable. Why are there appointment times? I had originally picked this place because my dentist recommended Dr. Soluti, and I'm sure he would be great, but the bottom line is I'm working on a budget, and I need my insurance to help me pay for most of my costs. So I've been shopping around and googling how much a root canal would cost before going in. All I know before my visit was that I had a bicuspid that needed a root canal. I had called the receptionist and asked if my insurance would cover some of the cost she had said yes. I go into the office thinking I'm about to get a root canal.. When after waiting over an hour, they said that my insurance will only provide 25% coverage of the cost. I figured it took them a while to speak with my insurance company, and this is the best they can come up with. They were asking for an examination fee of 130.. which came out to 101 after the discount.. before I went in. I go in, take an x-ray and have a good 5 minutes spent on me.. I need a root canal, it will cost 1300 minus 25% (1000 out of my pocket). I understand that you need a second look.. as an automotive technician I would always prefer a second look at another mechanic's diagnosis. After the examination, I scheduled an appointment the following day, and went home concerned that I did not fix my tooth problem on my day off, and that I had to miss some time at work to get my root canal done. I didn't get mad until I got home to check in with my insurance company. They had told me that this place was not covered under my insurance plan that if I had went to a place that charged the same amount it would be considerably cheaper.. a 1600 job would cost me around 400 with my insurance covering it.. I had asked the dentist office if my insurance was covered over the phone AND at the counter when I was waiting... and the smart answer was "some of the cost will be taken out." Obviously, the number 1 rule that I have learned is that I cannot depend on others and need to check with my insurance before going in. I lost 100 bucks, and for me that was quite a bit for nothing. read more

I had to go in for a tooth infection that spread to my jaw, which my regular dentist couldn't treat. Dr. Soluti is gentle, patient, and knowledgeable. His office staff is incredibly sweet and helpful (which I feel like is a rarity in the medical field), and they were all very patient with my serious fear of the dentist. OH - and they took the time to work out the best deal with my insurance company, saving me well over $1,000. The office and whole operation is very clean, welcoming, professional, friendly, and competent. I chose Dr. Soluti because he participates with my insurance and has good reviews. I don't have any reason to question his skill as an endodontist - but I do question the billing. I started to get a bad vibe when I asked for pricing and was just told that the estimated total out of pocket would be $2000. I couldn't get a break down and was told that it was just an estimate. I was also concerned about cost because Dr. Soluti required two evaluation appointments and when I returned for the second evaluation it seemed perfunctory. I admit that part of the reason for the first delay was that I was traveling - but I am not sure why we didn't just schedule the root canal for my return. I was in a lot of pain and the process seemed to be dragging along. At the second appointment he referred me to a gum specialist. When I went to the gum doctor he seemed confused because the root canal would need to be performed first. More time is passing and I still had to wait another week to schedule the root canal. Meanwhile, I did a price check with a non participating endodontist. For curiosity's sake, I called to find out the estimated cost. I was quoted $1600 - as the full price - without any discount for insurance. I just had the root canal done yesterday - and I paid up front. My insurance will cover about a quarter of the cost - which puts me out of pocket for just over $1200. How is it possible that the "participating provider" costs more? I think it could be in the codes for billing. Dr. Soluti quoted me the cost for two different codes - one for the root canal and another $1000+ charge for "calcification." This seems to be the difference in price. I question the billing because the other endodontist does not use that code and just uses the code for root canals. Sadly, it's so hard to figure out the price of health care, even with insurance! read more

I would give Dr. Soluti 6 stars if i could. He took me on a moment's notice to deal with a terribly painful abscess. I kept this in mind later when he might be a few minutes late for an appointment, and am grateful to know that in an emergency I have a dentist I can count on. His professionalism and passion about doing an excellent job were apparent - you could tell he took pride in his work and cared about the way that I felt as a patient. I recently moved to the area and was referred to this office for a root canal. As I entered the office, I could hear a young man berating the office staff. The young man appeared to be the office manager and was condescending to me and wouldn't explain my insurance obligations, demanding money up front instead. The receptionists went out of their way to smooth over the situation; however, I couldn't understand how they could be so verbally abused in a professional environment. Although I had heard very good things about Dr. Soluti, I didn't feel comfortable and left the office without having the dental work completed. read more

On Monday I went to my dentist and she took xrays and decided i need a root canal and referred me to Dr Soluti..I called and asked the cost of a root canal and I was told it started at 1,100. I made appt for Friday..When I came on Friday I was informed that I needed to pay extra tor the consultation..I said I do not need a consultation I just saw my own dentist and I have my own xrays...Reception person said Dr Soluti would spend 30-45 mins with me..He was not going to fix my tooth just look at it (and decide how much he was going to charge me)..Should i have to pay for that too??Of course that fee would be absorbed if I decided to go with him but after spending hundreds of dollars already on the consultation do you have much choice??I felt it was really disingenuous that i was not told about consultation fee when i called and asked for prices..and I just had a consultation why do i need to pay for another one??Is he not making enough for approximately 2 hours of his time.. read more

I had a botched root canal done overseas and had a cap placed overtop of the tooth (front tooth). Dr. Soluti was great because he explained everything very carefully to me and was up-front about the possibility of not being able to save my crown and/or having his procedure not work... and then having to do full-blown surgery. Dr. Soluti was so thorough and worked for HOURS conducting the root canal. I left with a headache, but it was well worth it. He did an excellent job and has had me in the office to check on how things are progressing a few times already. The silver lining of all of this is not only that I don't have an infection in my canal, but also that the front desk staff has worked so diligently with my insurance company who originally did not want to pay as much as they should have for my procedure. He has done excellent work on 2 previous experiences. Not this time. For my consultation ("this is covered by your insurance") he explained in detail his plan of treatment and I signed a consent form. When I came back the next day for the procedure I was asked to sign a new, handwritten consent form stating that because of calcification, he could not guarantee a satisfactory result plus he wanted the entire fee of $1200 upfront. He stated that the $1200 was 50% of his usual $2400 fee because of my dental insurance. What they never informed me is that he does not accept my dental insurance. I went to another dentist who did not require a separate consultation visit, did excellent work, charged me $350 or half of the $700 allowable total fee under my plan and I paid after I received my root canal treatment. Average fee for a root canal in this area is $1600 without insurance compared to $2400 (?plus consultation fee) for Dr. Soluti. read more

I have mixed feelings about Dr. Soluti and the office. At first, I was referred to him. I read the reviews on Yelp and all of them were positive. Except for the ones I saw that were filtered. I must say, I should have listened to the ones that were filtered. Although I was not happy about the root canal and a little nervous because it was my first one, Dr Soluti took his time and got the job done.It was painless but it was a very long procedure. I would definitely stand by Dr. Soluti's work and trust him as a dentist. It was the rest of my experience in the office I did not like. The office itself is connected to a dentist for small children. So I could hear screaming and crying coming from the room next to where I was getting the procedure done. The man behind the front desk was aggressive and condescending when I talked to him about the prices. They claimed my insurance covered a certain percentage of the procedure, yet I still paid for what seemed like the entire procedure would cost without dental insurance. I called my dental insurance company to follow up and found out that the office had not filed the paperwork to my insurance company. I believe this would be called an insurance claim. It took their office almost 2 months to file the claim with the insurance. Not only did this make me angry, but I found it to be very irresponsible on the part of their office. When I called to try to speak to this man who I believe to be one of the front desk staff, he was once again rude to me and did not do anything to help resolve the problem. I do not like writing bad reviews unless I really feel the need. Again, Dr Soluti was a great dentist, but they obviously have issues with their administrative stuff. Oh, one more thing to also mention is for both appointments I had with them, I had to wait in the waiting room for over an hour both times. What a terrible place with extremely rude staff. I was referred by another dentist who's practice I question. Nevertheless, after reading the reviews I decided to give this practice a try. Before I begin detailing my experience I would recommend that all YELP readers read ALL the reviews of this office. READ THE "NOT CURRENTLY RECOMMENDED REVIEWS" There are hidden reviews that are not shown and obviously not counted towards the overall rating since I found 5-6 other 1 star reviews. I was fooled until I happened to read these tucked away reviews. First of all, they made me pay $395 for a consultation using an insurance code that is not covered by my insurance. Then I had to sign a consent form. They wanted me to pay up front for the treatment. The cost was outrageous. I would understand if the service was phenomenal and the environment was great. However, I later found out that they mislead me regarding my insurance. They claimed to have called my insurance company and made me pay for 50% of the treatment up front. What I later found out is that they are charging double the price of other places for a root canal and they make you pay for a consultation on top of that. Essentially they charged me the full price of a treatment, billed my insurance and took that money, and also took the money for my "consultation" which was not actually even necessary. Dr. Soluti is very pleasant but the staff at the front are very combative and rude. Unfortunately I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more
