Got two toy poodles from here and both had pneumonia. One had pneumonia so badly she had to be hospitalized at the ER for two weeks! She could have died if I hadn't saved her! Very traumatizing. Plus, I was looking at a boy toy poodle and a girl. Deciding if I wanted both. They rudely let another couple come up to me and try to pressure me into letting them have the girl and then I decided I wanted the girl and wanted them both and was there first but they rudely let the other people have the boy. It still saddens me to this day that I didn't get to go her brother. Terrible experience. Bought a puppy from here, asked many times if she was healthy in which they answered yes. Brought the dog home not even an hour in she was throwing up and coughing. Sounds like pneumonia. Took her to the vet. She in fact was very sick the procedure and treatments were going to be over $1,000. Heartbroken I took the puppy back. I have two dogs and one of them is a senior dog. I couldn't risk them getting sick. LADY? You're angry ??? You sold me a sick puppy for $2,200. I got attached to this baby already, you put my dogs at risk. And you're angry? I made sure to report this business to animal control, the puppies are kept in cramp spaces in where they are surrounded by their urine and feces. the only water they have is in a rat water bottle. Some of these puppies go hysterical and start attacking the other puppies. Many of these puppies are sick and look like they are on the brink of death covered in green mucus do not shop here. This business will lie to you in a heart beat. Went to make an offer on a goldador today, and set us up in a play room. Was advised by the guy that there was a 7 day warranty (meaning if it didn't work out at home you can return the dog). Got up to the register to pay for the dog and was told it was 48 hours. We had promised our girls hamsters for their 11th and 8th birthdays. We went to the big chain stores and one hamster died overnight, the other was very mean and bit us constantly. This time we went to Friendly Pets and a completely different experience. The staff was very knowledgeable about the different breeds of hamsters. I bought a ferret for my 15 yr old for her birthday. Nov 2022 we bought everything we were told to costing just at $500. Whiskey was her name and she lived 6 days. On day 5 her eyes were red and squinting I called friendly pet for advice they said to call the vet. This was a Saturday and we had not got her a vet yet. Again 5 days... Told by store employee that they couldn't do anything. Next day she was having a what I assumed to be seizures for more than 2 hours and passed away. The store has a 7-day policy that they will not honor and the company that breeds the ferrets have a one year warranty that they will not honor. So we are out $500 a birthday gift and our new pet! Puppy Mill Alert..... The staff did not provide satisfactory information when I asked about where the puppies came from. They were kept in small cages and people had to pay to cuddle them. If you want a full breed puppy, please please contact a reputable breeder (one who has you fill out an application, allows you to visit the dogs, meet the puppy's mother etc.) or adopt. I have purchased my Beiwer terrier from a caring breeder and got to meet the mother, siblings and see where the puppies where whelped in her home. The love and care is evident. I also rescued a puppy mill dog. She is the sweetest girl in the world but needed a lot of help. Puppy mills are such a cruel practice. read more

If you know anything about puppy mills and backyard breeders, you will be able to spot what is going on here a mile away. No reputable breeder would sell their puppies to a pet store, so where do you suppose all these "designer mixes" and "purebred" puppies are coming from? Puppy mills. First off, you will most likely have to wait months before you are able to take your puppy home from a breeder. Unlike puppy mills, they are not forcing their female dogs to breed over and over again until they can no longer produce puppies (which at that point they are either auctioned off or killed). Not to mention, these breeding dogs will spend their whole lives in small wire cages in extremely unsanitary conditions. The goal of a puppy mill is literally to maximize profit by reducing overhead (aka prioritizing profits over the health and well-being of the animals). It's common for people to think that by adopting a puppy from a pet store, they are "saving" that puppy, which could not be further from the truth. Purchasing a puppy mill dog only helps to keep puppy mills in business. If you are going to spend $3000 on a dog, then you would be much better off adopting from a reputable breeder. Not only will your dog be temperament tested, properly socialized, and well-nourished, but you will most likely end up saving thousands of dollars on veterinary bills in the future. You do not "adopt" a pet from Friendly Pets. You buy a pet. There is a big difference between the two considering there a little to no screening procedures, no contracts, or follow-ups when you "buy" a pet. In other words, pet stores could care less where these puppies end up. This is clearly evident in the way Friendly Pets keep these puppies crammed in tiny cages with wire bottoms. Oh and one other thing, you may notice that these puppies will be "AKC Registered" but beware, this DOES NOT guarantee that these puppies are healthy and well cared for. ALL it means is that the puppy's parents both had AKC papers, which are easily obtained if the breeder follows certain standards (LOW standards). PLEASE do not adopt from this store, or ANY pet stores for that matter. It's hard to resist all the cute faces when you go into a pet store, trust me I know, but the puppy mill industry is quite literally banking on that. Go to your local rescue or go to a reputable breeder instead. You'll be helping to put a stop to the exploitative and deceptive practices these stores employ by putting them out of business. This will make it much harder for puppy mills to make a profit and drastically lessen their incentive to continue breeding. read more

She found a golden retriever pup, malnourished, unattended and with pneumonia that would have killed the puppy in 48 hours if not for this woman's intervention. The employees are great when trying to get people to buy animals or every other highly priced item that they sell in this animal mill. We just bought a cocatiel two days ago. It was until this morning (less than 48 hours) when he was lying dead in his cage. When we bought him back to the store all kinds of excuses were thrown at us. 1. We didn't buy the insurance, so there's nothing they can do. We were never even told about the insurance. 2. We didn't buy the food from them. We were never told about that either. 3. Even if the store was closing in a half hour, shouldn't we have been told all of this information? It's not a pet store that cares about the animals. Puppy mill alert!!! I went in here the other day just out of curiosity while walking around Friendly. I was interested in a couple of their pups which first of all you can only meet one dog a day? And you have to pay to meet the dog? Seems odd. They were asking $2500 for the supposed Shiba Inu pup they had which is way over priced, the average breeder sells them for $1000-$2000. The worker let me see the dogs folder so I could do my research before making such a large purchase and boy am I glad I took a photo of the folder. After doing practically no research on the breeder I was able to find that it is in fact a puppy mill. There were several sources such as the ASPCA that MENTIONED this "breeder" by NAME and confirmed it was a puppy mill. I also did practically barely any research on this pet store and just about everything confirms they get their animals from puppy mills, kitten mills, ferret mills, etc. They even advertised the ferrets as being from Marshall Farms which is a known ferret mill filled with abuse. Anyone who is looking to get a purebred or designer dog/cat should go directly to a breeder, anywhere that doesn't let you meet or see the parents is likely a backyard breeder or puppy mill... which is exactly what this place is. Just by walking in this store you get a weird vibe. All the animals are crammed in small cages together, the place smells like piss, none of the workers were friendly or helpful, and the list goes on and on. I couldn't imagine paying $1000 plus dollars for a fake & backyard bred "purebred" dog that's probably going to get sick or have serious health issues. This place is disgusting and should be shut down, along with all the places they are getting their animals from. I'm honestly horrified that places like this even exist. Previously I have bought many things at Friendly Pets including a rabbit, various pet foods and a lobster. My last and I mean last visit, I bought a glass aquarium top. I took it home and started to assemble it. The glass top cracked in my hands and came close to cutting my arm. I took the defective piece back to Friendly Pets. One of the managers told me there was nothing they could do for me, no exchange, no refund, nothing. Very cold, not helpful at all. That $25 loss on my end cost them a customer and I'll do what I can to make sure that everyone understands that this business will not help you if you have an issue with a product that they sell. Awful treatment of pets. I have bought two birds from this facility and both were malnourished with respiratory infections. Unless featured 4+ birds are crammed into a cage as big as the holding tanks for goldfish. The overall cost is very expensive and the seven day warranty isn't enough time to see a vet. Not to mention the vet cost of an ill bird. Workers also let customers pull on feathers and forcefully hold obviously distressed birds. Many birds constantly bite and hiss at the harmful customers and their calls for help are ignored but unknowing workers. Only one person really cares and takes care of these poor babies. Honestly they need to be shut down by protective services and the owners charged for abuse. This is outrageous and I feel bad for these babies. read more

I happened to be shopping today at the Loft next door and so I stopped in, wanting to get my dog a new toy to play with. While at first, it seemed like a normal pet store filled with the usual toys, treats, and whatnots for our furry friends, I quickly noticed a throng of people gathered near the entire sidewall of the place. I went to go check out what all the fuss was about and noticed over 20 small kennels filled with the saddest puppies I have ever seen. Not a one looked happy, healthy or energetic. How do these places still exist? I would have thought North Carolina was more progressive than this but apparently they remain ignorant. DO NOT BUY A PUPPY FROM THIS PLACE. If we stop patronizing them, backyard breeders will stop irresponsibly breeding and selling to places like this. These puppies should all be taken to a shelter immediately where they will be better cared for and adopted immediately. If you read the sorry list of reviews here you know that these pups are not being cared for properly. It is heartbreaking and makes me sick to my stomach. If I could give zero stars I would. HOW IS THIS PLACE ALLOWED TO EXIST. Animal cruelty in a fancy Greensboro shopping center. Their animals are sick and management does not care at all. In the store right now is a cockatiel with an eye infection they are pretending is a birth defect and one that is literally days from dying. The manager was informed and she doesn't care. They're also charging $350 for sick birds. The bird in the picture I'm going to include will be dead in 2-3 days, we raise birds, and I know a sick bird when I see it. Friendly pets is an antiquated, overpriced, abusive puppy mill. They should be shut down immediately. Went to take my daughter to see puppies as a celebration and we both ended up completely devastated at what we saw. For an hour the staff allowed a very small puppy to be attacked by much larger dogs. I asked them to move the small dog and the staff was completely rude and was only concerned about purchasing the $3000 dog that had clearly been mistreated the last 3 months that it's been there. The dog's spirit was completely broken. They finally moved to another crowded kennel where she was then jumped by 3 more dogs as they watched like it was completely normal. Every customer that walked by was disgusted and wanted to help the poor puppy. It is definitely animal cruelty and some larger governing body should definitely take a look at their inhumane treatment of these poor animals!! I visited friendly pets today with my daughter and friend who wanted to hold a dog. The sign said playtime was over. As I was leaving, a white patron was giving the manager her ID. I asked "isn't play time over?" The manager from about ten feet away from me in front of everyone in the store yelled "SHES BUYING!!!!!!" She turned around and walked away. I have never been so humiliated in my life. I could have bought any dog in that store. I hope management sees this and does diversity training. This was such a sad store to walk through, the dogs were fighting and in small enclosures as people watched laughing. We watched teenagers grab Guinea pigs and birds and laugh as they squirmed from being held tightly. The fish tanks were too small and overcrowded. As we were leaving we watched multiple dogs gang up on a smaller breed and bite it while it struggled in the back corner. It was sad to see and I highly suspect it to be a puppy mill. This place has been open for years and I can't believe it. The puppies are kept in small cages with other dogs, making them cramped. When I visited last, one of the French Bulldogs had an upset stomach and diarrhea all over the place! I went to alert the unfriendly staff that seemed to be actively ignoring everyone and couldn't even smile, but by then, another one of the puppies staying with the dog had eaten it! Disgusting! One dog escaped from the back and looked very scrawny. It was a black lab in which you could see its ribcage. Another dog escaped later on as well and was soaking wet and smelled like diarrhea! As for the other pets, I looked at one of the guinea pigs and it appeared to have the starting of ringworm! They also had an Axolotl (an almost endangered species) that did not seem to be doing well. It was floating at the top of his dirty tank and seemed pretty inactive, which could be a sign of stress. I pity the pets here, and I don't know how often any of the puppies get adopted because the adoption fee is ridiculous! I payed less than $500 for my registered, purebred chihuahua, and they want over $1,000 for their chihuahua that is probably sick. This place needs to be shut down! If you want to adopt, please go to a pound instead! read more

If the bad reviews haven't scared you off yet, here's another one based off my mom's recent experience. Keep in mind, I do not support stores that sell dogs and cats at all. In fact, I have done animal rescue for the better part of 20 years. I've also grown up in the area and have always known of this store's horrible reputation. Also know that no good breeder will sell animals to a pet store so no matter what they say about how the vet the breeders it's complete BS. My mom has severe allergies to animals. But she has found that she doesn't react to Silky Terriers. After she lost her beloved Silky after 17 years, she looked for years for one to pop up in rescue (remember it HAS to be a Silky or she will react). The only purebred Silkies in rescues that we could find were elderly and in California. Finding one not too far away from a breeder was proving difficult too (since legit breeders don't overbreed and it's not a super popular breed, they were hard to get). After spending all of that time wanting a new companion and not being able to find one she finally broke down and bought one for $2500 from Friendly Pets. I'll make the rest short: 1. He developed a horrible case of kennel cough within a week and they wouldn't pay for the vet visits, only the $39 medication 2. It has become clear he isn't a pure silky overtime. 3. A genetic test showed he has almost 40% Maltese and some Havenese as well 4. They don't care at all and now claim they can't guarantee the breed will actually be what the breeder claims it to be 5. My mom tracked down the breeder herself and her response was "Whatever!" 6. They charge insane amounts of money for "purebred" animals who come from breeders they have checked out and deemed "good" but also can't guarantee that it will be a purebred because it's not their fault if the breeder lies. But they sure don't reflect that little tidbit in their prices. I'll end with saying I wish I didn't have to try to convince anyone not to buy from stores that sell dogs and cats but, alas, I do. Not one puppy or kitten you are buying is coming from a good place. That's a guarantee. But if you still don't mind that, then I hope this review and the others just like it convince you not to support this dreadful place. Now my mom won't be able to come off the extremely strong (and damaging) allergy shots she's been on like she had planned to or she will have to get rid of her new dog which, of course, she has fallen in love with.
