This is an awesome game store! There's a huge selection of all kinds of games from Warhammer, Pathfinder, D&D, and more. There are a ton of Warhammer miniatures-like seriously a ton. There are tables setup in the back and people are always gaming in the back. On Wednesday evenings people play Pathfinder and anyone can come. They have a ton of board games that you can play all day long and you only have to purchase a gift card for $5. I think that's an awesome deal and a good way to try a game out to see if you actually want to purchase it. The staff are really friendly and I highly recommend you check it out. I just love the name of this place. I literally saw the sign in the corner of my eye and did a U-turn to check the place out. Decent size store. Walls lined on one side with magic cards and folders, the opposite side lined with game books, back wall of comics and plenty of games displayed in the window to intice you to peak in. But the sign saying "Magic Played Here" had my dork mood on high. I spent maybe an hour just flipping through cards and chatting with the owner. I finally found a store that carries individual cards. This place has soul. When I'm searching through cards I create an imaginary bubble where I can longer see or hear anything that isn't on the cards but bits and pieces of conversations cracked my defence and I just smiled at the random conversations that were occuring. People discussed making repairs on vehicles, Obamacare, difficulty of playing in Florida weather, and gave each other updates on the Jaguar game. This place really feels homey. Can't wait to incorporate the cards I purchased into my decks and maybe come back and play someone. read more

My son is trying to get into Pokemon and asked me to come here to pick him up some "booster" packs. I didn't find what I was looking for, and when I went to sit in the back to call him, I found a cockroach crawling under my table. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. The men in the back were loud and unhelpful when I asked them. I will go to target next time! read more

I've been coming to FLGS off and on since 2015. Hiring Brian has been the most positive change that has happened at this store. He has improved customer service, flow, product, and events. As a customer, I have always been welcomed by him and enjoyed our conversations. He has so much product knowledge and has inspired me to begin table top gaming again. read more

Friendly Local Game Store is what has become of Sun Coast Comics. While the owners of Sun Coast took their brand to the online market, they sold the business location back in December. I was never really a fan of this place while under the Sun Coast name, but I must say that I am already liking the new store and new management. Unfortunately, upon transition, Sun Coast took most everything merchandise wise when they departed and left next to nothing for FLGS to start off with. So the new management has basically had to start from scratch to rebuild this store, which is happening rather slowly, but surely. I am also happy to notice that they finally removed the Sun Coast sign from the building. Hopefully, that will ease confusion as well. I've stopped in a few times since the changeover and it seems to get better with each visit. The store is going to dabble in as much geekery as it can - Magic: the Gathering, Pathfinder, Heroclix, comics, board games, Munchkin, miniatures, and the list goes on. I've chatted with the new owners a few times and they have the heart and the drive to make this store a staple in Jax again. This past Saturday was Free Comic Book Day and I stopped in with my niece. For the first year, I'd say they didn't do too bad. They definitely have growing to do and that's perfectly okay. There weren't many choices of 2013 FCBD comics, but I liked their idea of putting out back issues that they've had a hard time moving as Free Comics as well. I do go out of my way to give business to each comic store that I enter, especially on FCBD, and I was able to find an addition to my Thanos collection that I've been looking for as well. All in all, I'm glad to see this store getting some life breathed into it again. I had many qualms with Sun Coast when they were at this location and FLGS has already started squashing those. read more

The truth is, I've been to damn close to every local gaming store in the greater Jax area and, by god man, this one blows all of the others out of the water. At least in terms of their tabletop selection. Especially old stuff. The dude who owns it apparently used to work for TSR back in the olden golden days and, dude... it shows. They have a wicked collection of old AD&D first and second edition sourcebooks and folios and all that stuff. All priced decently and all in pretty good condition considering gamers played the hell out of those games in their heyday. They also have lots of 3.0/3.5 and pathfinder. Besides that, idk. They've got lots of miscellaneous tabletop game sourcebooks priced really decently as well. Saw some White Wolf, Palladium, Star Trek, Star Wars, etc. I'm not big into cards or comics anymore so I pretty much ignored all that. I mean, they've got a small and kind of disorganized back issue box and I think I saw some MtG stuff. Oh oh oh! They've got tons of Warhammer stuff, way more than what you can find at, say, Borderlands. Idk about the Games Workshop store in Baymeadows. Never been there so I don't know if that's the Warhammer mecca or not. They also have a game room about the size of Jax game center's for Magic, DnD, Pathfinder, etc. They buy comics and game stuff back at this store, but I would redeem it in store credit because this place is relatively new. It used to be Suncoast but the owners are new and had to start over so I think instead of selling a ton of stuff to them and taking the earnings, you should support them by freeing up their stock a little and passing on the word about the store. Friendly Local Game Store - AD&D 1E - Hobby Shops Near Me - Jacksonville, Florida

I've been wanting to come here for a while now. I am always looking for a new comic book store and to review local businesses as well so I was excited to finally come by. Now I know that I don't have the slightest desire to ever come back either. First off the place is nice and large and seems to have a good amount of products. Like the name says it's focused on gaming and that's great for those who are into gaming. I am a comic book guy so that's where I was focused. I walked in and the employee, I'm assuming he's the owner: short, glasses, balding older man was on the phone but did acknowledge me. I walked to the comic section and saw some key issues on spinner racks one which I wanted, but I'll get to that later. I looked through the pretty well organized long boxes at various X-Men books and noticed several inconsistencies in pricing from $.99-$4 for non-key issues in decent to good shape. In my opinion, a non-key issue is fair at about $2 per book. Considering what a comic shop will buy one for they can make about $1 or so in profit and as a consumer you don't feel like you are getting ripped-off. There was a decent selection of standard books, stuff I am not collecting and a lot of books I already own. No big deal, the music playing was good and I had the day off, nothing wrong with that. Here's where my issue is: I walked up to the man at the front and asked what the best price he could do on a key New X-Men book I've wanted, yet had serious issues tracking down. His response was "what do you mean?" I repeated my question and he said that the tagged price ($30) was it. Fair enough, I thought and left. When you go to a comic shop haggling is standard. Not for new books mind you, those are the prices. But for older and especially key books no one ever pays the marked price. I wasn't disrespectful for asking for a deal, it's just what you do. He lost a sale because he wasn't willing to negotiate. No harm, no foul, but I won't be going back. read more

My wife and I moved to Jax a few months ago and after much searching, we have found our game store. FLGS truly lives up to its name, Friendly Local Game Store. The staff and patrons are super friendly, there are always games going and a variety of them at that. This is one of the few stores I have seen Battletech, FNM, D&D, and board games being played simultaneously at their large amount of tables. Their selection, boardgames and new TTRPGS alike, could use a boost as they often only have one item of each in stock and a limited selection to begin with. You can always just order stuff through them though. That being said, their used sections, again TTRPGs and boardgames, are the best I've seen in multiple cities. They have lots of vintage and our of print boardgames along with TTRPGs that likely haven't seen play in two decades or longer--all the more reason to give them a whirl and support your local FLGS. read more

The name fits. These guys are family type friendly, right down to welcoming little proto-geeks and making sure they have age appropriate fun! Yeah they're mostly about the Wargames and Magic cards, currently, but with several huge gaming tables there's room for everyone. Pickup game of Gurps Bunnies and Burrows? Sure! Long term Serenity campaign? You betcha! As for merchandise, the selection can be a bit slim, at least if you're looking for d20 supplies ; books, dice, screens, etc...but imo the boardgames, comics, and of course cards and figs make up for it! (They also buy back used board games, for fair prices...which you will most likely turn around and spend before you leave the store! ;p) All in all one of my favorite places to just hang out...and being right next door to a DD (Mmmm, doughnuts!) doesn't hurt! Arr this be my game store! With such a name I expect a friendly staff, but they are almost family-like in their behavior with their customers. This place keeps my gaming group in the good minis. My only complaint is that their dice selection is generic and overall kinda weak. But honestly they cater more towards the wargamers than the d20 types. They'll still have what you need though. read more

A growing hub for a vibrant gaming community, FLGS is the place to shop geek. Comics, cards, board games, and miniatures-this place has everything you could want. It is good to have an Old Fashioned Gaming Store back on the Westside. I have been gaming since 1995. I started at the WarDogs on Beach back then. I still have fond memories of the old Zenos store. Upon entering this establishment a few weeks ago, I was taken back to the old days, the nice, comfortable 'feel' of a friendly place to hang out and/or purchase items. I was a historical gamer but have found new enjoyment in the Star Wars X wing and Star Trek Attack wing games. I plan to frequent the store and join a game or two in the near future. If you are looking for a place that REALLY tries to help customers find what they need, this is the place. The managers are Professional and knowledgeable and yet very easy to deal with. I have also enjoyed speaking with other gamers who gladly share insight on their favorite games. This is a grownup store, in that it does more than cater to the youth. I am sure all ages are welcome. I am 60, retired Army and from Teaching School and I feel comfortable. I hope these guys do really great and are prosperous so the store can be around for along time. read more
