Today I was given the task of picking up a $40 bottle of Malbec for my fathers birthday and the first place I thought to go was Friar Tuck because it has never disappointed me in the past and because I couldn't remember where any other liquor stores were. Being that it is the day before Thanksgiving, the store was very busy but when I was able to finally get someones attention to help me I received excellent service. The staff member informed me that they didn't carry any Malbec that was quite that expensive but showed me around the Malbec section and told me which was his favorite and also helped me pick out a second bottle. He also took the time to explain to me the differences in flavors of several types of red wine and seemed very knowledgeable on the subject (which is good because I am not). Had to kill some time in Peoria just after Christmas and wanted to see what beers I could find that are available in IL, but not distributed in WI. Friar Tuck's didn't disappoint when I walked out with the Schafly Tasmanian IPA among others. The beer aisle is a haven of delicious specialty brews. Having stopped elsewhere in the city, I can say this is the place to go. They have it separated by state or region of brew. Lots of single bottles available to make your own sixer. Tons of bombers. Also a great section of specialty sodas. I don't know what else is available in the city, but I thought it was awesome they had a half aisle of homebrew supplies - I'd never seen that in a liquor store before, but it makes sense and thought it was a smart move. I didn't wander the wine and liquor selection, but place is big and I can't imagine they don't have much of what you're looking for. There's a big area up front with gifts and accessories. read more

The store is clean and the inventory is vast. The customer service needs improvement. My 76 year old mother in law went to pick up the family favorite wine for the holidays. She bought every bottle on the shelf, spending a large amount. When checking out, the young lady behind the counter just pointed and said the boxes are over there. The cashier never even made eye contact. Again she is 76 and uses a cane. She had to pack her own boxes, which were heavy. Its a shame that manners and kindness are not a priority for this establishment. read more

Amazing selection, free weekly wine and/or beer tasting, what more could you ask for? The professional staff members are very knowledgeable, less so with the younger help, but that is to be expected. Can't necessarily give this place 5 stars off 1 visit yet. I needed to find a place to find some good scotch. I come from Los Angeles, so finding a place with good scotch was dime a dozen. I recently moved out here, oh boy, can't really find anything. Had to do some searching on google. This place reminded me of Bevmo. The only place that I could find online that carried Macallan 18. For off-beat selections, this is your place! If you are looking for the basics, price shop elsewhere. Huge aisle of craft beers and a ton in their coolers. Great selection for a pick-a-six too. Good wine choices but again basic = UFS, exotic= Friar Tuck. The customer service here is awesome too, they will search high and low for something if you ask. I was reluctant to give Friar Tuck a plug on Yelp because it is the one and only place everyone talks about to get beer, wine, cheese, and there are other options in Peoria that no one checks out (try Super Liquors, or Pottstown...) but admitedly, Friar Tuck has it all under one roof, a great selection of MicroBrew (including mix and match six packs) and, what finally made me a believer, a great homebrew section. Literally the best liquor store in America. Every time we go to Peoria we stop here and load up. Do you want some Buffalo Trace Bourbon Cream which you cannot find in any other liquor store in the Midwest because it is so fucking good and everyone buys it immediately? Friar Tuck's is by far my favorite liquor store in the Peoria area. I'm more into beer than wine and liquor, so I can't speak to that side of the house so much. The beer selection is amazing here. Prices are a little above average, but the selection makes up for it. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. The store is nice, clean, and easy to find. Love coming here after a paycheck when I actually have some extra money to try different beers. They have the widest variety of alcohol that I know of in Peoria (more than UFS) and a huge selection of everything... including home brew kits and bar essentials. This place doesn't have that sketchy get-in get-out feeling of the liquor stores around Bradley... Its roomy, clean, and its great for just browsing. As far as alcoholic beverages go, this is definitely the place to go to get hard to find items in Central Illinois. After trying A LOT of places looking for a certain dessert wine I liked when I went to Rome, I stopped here and found it. My dad found a great bartender's book here too that I am definitely stealing. This place is truly amazing. I was in awe the first time I set foot in the door. This place is huge! I have drove past it for year and never noticed it because it's 'tucked" behind Subway and the Fish House off University and Glen. I just instantly fell in love. They have just about any kind of beer, wine, liqueur, and spirits you could ever want. There's also a good selection of cigars, bar supplies, gourmet chips, crackers, candies , cheeses and teas. They even have home brewing supplies!! I felt like a kid in a candy store. The prices were resonable too. If there's something they don't have then they can special order. The staff is always friendly and they actually know their stuff. I've been many many times since I discovered it. It's always been clean, well stocked and with the feel of a small town store.
