If you're after a home away from home on the Gold Coast then Freshwater Point gets my tick of approval.
The photos I saw in advance really did no justice to our room on the 4th floor overlooking the pool. Our 1 bedroom apartment was large, bright and airy. The furniture was modern and with two adults and one child, we had plenty of space to move around and not get in each other's way. Miss 3 slept on the pull out sofa in a separate sitting area, and we still had plenty of space to eat, play and watch movies in the evening.
The kitchen facilities were good, but there was minimal equipment so it made it difficult to cook some meals. Ie. no baking trays or fry pan, but four saucepans! We loved having our meals on the balcony each evening overlooking the pool and canals.
The pools were great - a small shallow one for kids and a larger one for bigger children and those of us who wanted to do laps. The spa was great when the weather got a little colder. Towels could be rented for $5 ($20 deposit) which seemed a bit rich given we were in a beach area and the pools were so good. Surely this wouldn't be hard to include in the room price, and I imagine would stop people using the lovely room towels at the pool/beach.
There's not much immediately in the vicinity, but I liked that in comparison to Broadbeach where things felt a little chaotic; hotels and stores piled on top of one another. The beach was only a 15 minute walk away and there was a couple of stores and cafes 3 minutes up the road.
My only criticism is for the stinginess of the cooking equipment, lack of free wifi (it's 2014 people!) and the cost for towels. Otherwise we thought this was a great resort and would happily return. read more
