The dentist said a hard one would be best so my teeth don't move since I wouldn't be able to wear a retainer with it. I paid for it. He said it was risk free bc if I didn't like it I could try something else. Well, it was extremely painful. I thought maybe I just needed to get used to it. I couldn't sleep bc it hurt so bad. I tried wearing it for an hour during the day and over time I got acclimated but then had insane rebound pain when I took it off. I went back to complain and the dentist said there's no way they made any mistakes with it and it must be my fault. Maybe my teeth moved because my retainer isn't in good condition. I asked if my teeth could really move that much in 2 weeks. He admitted that no, they couldn't. He seemed upset but finally allowed me to get a soft night guard. Turns out in my sleep I think a soft night guard is chewing gum! I woke up so sore I couldn't eat solid food that day. Did I go back and tell them? Heck no! I don't need to not be believed another time. Good for them, they got to keep my money. Definitely never going back.

If you're like me, you probably read the other review (the One-Star one) and immediately became…read moresuspicious. Well I hope this review can give you a very different second-hand experience. I went ahead and called Maui Whitening and asked a few questions. I then asked Gene, the owner of Maui Whitening in Sandy who happened to answered the phone, about the other Yelp review. He told me his side of the story and what happened that day. Maui Whitening originally had three co-owners, the third being the individual who was suppose to help Dan B., (the writer of the other Yelp reviewer). This third co-owner was a less-than-capable individual who was soon after let go. Anyways, keep in mind that this Maui Whitening is a young business branch here in Salt Lake City so there are some kinks the business needs to work out. Also keep in mind that Dan B. actually didn't receive any service, so his unpleasant 'experience' has to be taken with a grain of salt (keep fair judgement when reading my review as well). I'll tell you my experience. It was fucking great! I took the elevator to the third floor and found room 350. Like Dan B. said, the office read "Gem Medical Spa". That's because Maui Whitening is an independent dealer within Gem Medical Spa, sort of like a Starbucks inside a Smith's. The office was clean, the receptionists were kind, and there was plenty of light. I met Gene, who gave me a warm welcome, and took me to a room. You clean your teeth with a special cotton pad. Once you are done, Gene goes over some instructions and then everything begins. First, you have to stick in this plastic thing that opens your mouth for you. Its slightly uncomfortable but its necessary if you want to whiten as much teeth as possible. Second, you apply a special gel to your gums that protects them from the strong whitening gel. Next, you'll apply the whitening gel liberally to your teeth. You'll feel a tingling sensation, at least for me I did. It could vary from person to person. Just try to keep the whitening gel from your gums. Finally, you lay back and Gene will focus the strong LED light onto your mouth. You'll have to hold completely still for the 20 minute session. If you do the groupon deal, you'll do three 20 minute stations. I suggest you bring headphones to play music. Once the 20 minutes are over, Gene pulls away the LED light and you go to the bathroom and rinse out the gels. You should see results in the mirror. With my experience, I moved up 14 shades of white! Let me tell you, I have never been this confident in my life!! I've always had great teeth and gums but I believe my teeth have naturally been yellow due to diet and genetics. But now, I have a beautiful smile and its all thanks to Gene. Your smile can make such a huge impact! After my appointment, I went on a date later that evening and everything was great! In conclusion, I had a very different experience from Dan B. Maui Whitening has definitely made improvements (from what Dan experienced) and the actual service is fantastic! You'll leave with a whiter smile, but more importantly, with a more confident you. If you do decide to go, here are some tips: -Make sure to eat a good meal before you go. You can't eat for the following two hours of treatment since your teeth pores are wide open and eating will stain them back. I didn't eat and I was starving for two hours. -Bring music to listen to, especially if you are going to sit for three sessions. -Try not to get the whitening gel on your gums. It might cause a weird tingling sensation. If you do manage to get it on them, that sensation will go away within the first 6 minutes of the treatment. Hopefully, my experience will give you a different perspective on Maui Whitening. I have never spent $90 better in my life.

Ignore the negative reviews…read more. I did not read the other reviews before going to my appt and now having visited today, I don't think the negative reviews should be taken seriously. The chairs may not be the most comfortable.. but they are typical for a doctor or medical business. I had no problems with neck support.. The mean person who was bringing up the past of the owner is very catty and unprofessional. Everyone has a past.. I'm sure yours is not perfect. She did mention she has been sober for 13 years which is amazing! Also.. if you are late to an appt and have to reschedule, it makes sense that you would be charged a rescheduling fee. Put on your adult pants and get to your appts on time. I had a great experience and will be going back very soon!

There is a gym/ yoga place in the basement with screaming children when I was there. The restroom, used to wash your mouth after the procedure, is shared in the floor and is quite small( I would turn on the dryer every time I went close to the sink). Non of these are deal breakers thogh! The results of the basic whitening is not dramatic. It's similar to whitening strips that you can buy at a much lower cost and take only half hour in your PJs. The chair is super uncomfortable! Before and during my appointment, the lady was talking on the phone nonstop instead of attending fully to the costumer. It made me feel unwelcome. After the appointment i set an appointment with her and luckily asked for a confirmation txt. 2 days before my appointments I texted her for cancellation and she was persistent that I don't have an appointment. After sending a screenshot of the confirmation she figured she has scheduled one under another name. ( make sense since she was on the phone all the time) Anyways, we scheduled another appointment but I am not going to attend since I dont feel welcome and comfortable in this facility.
