For 4…read moresummers, since my daughter has been going to sleep away camp in Honesdale, PA, we have been in search for a great, REAL country homemade pie. Last summer, we thought we found the perfect apple pie when we stopped by an Amish food stand. It was far from perfect. The dough was authentic, but the filling was made with that compote filling. That was a shocker and some disappointment, I'll tell you that!! Well, fast forward to yesterday. Driving along Route 206 trying to find a place to eat (see Jumboland), I spotted the Culver Lake Nursery and Farm Market along the roadside and the word "Pie" stood right out. This market had everything you could possibly imagine: Perennials and Plants, Homemade Cider, Jams, Fresh Farm Vegetable and Fruit, PIES, and so much more. If we had more time AND I knew I would find it on Yelp, I would have insisted on staying longer to look around and take more pictures. There was a table displaying the most beautiful pies I have ever seen. Apple Crumb, Plain Apple, Blueberry, Mixed Berry and Cherry. I was speaking to the owner and she told me she gets all her homemade pies from a bakery that her Brother and Sister-In-Law own. My husband lifted the Apple Pie and he said it felt like it weighed 4 lbs!! The aroma of fresh baked pie filled our car, we couldn't wait to get home!! As soon as we cut into the pie, you could hear the crunch of the apples. The dough was the PERFECT consistency - how it held so many apples I have no idea!! The pictures speak for itself, this was by far THE best apple pie I have ever had. I found the bakery on Yelp (http://www.yelp.com/biz/village-farmer-and-bakery-delaware-water-gap) and called to compliment them and to find out exactly where they were located. The girl told me they put EIGHT cups of apples into every pie. Unfortunately, after my husband spoke to the owner to get directions, he realized this bakery would be too much out of our way coming home, so chances are we will not be going there. But, we have all intentions of stopping by the Culver Lake Nursery every chance we will get!! Look for an update the weekend of August 4th, we shall be returning then!! Note: The large pies (12") are $13.99 and the mini's (6") are $5.99. Worth every penny!!!

I was shocked by how good the ice cream was here. I got the peanut butter cup, which was filled with gooey gobs of peanut butter. It tasted fresh, like the peanut butter had been hand-whipped into the luscious vanilla base. The cone was fresh too, a tasty waffle cone that would pair nicely with many of their flavors. Beyond that, the women working the stand were all nice, and the prices were very reasonable. I got corn which was also quite good, and was a standard price so I didn't feel like I needed to buy a bunch just to get a bulk discount. I did also try the green valley farms labeled black cherry soda - that was probably the only 3/4 star experience for me, but would be perfect for someone who likes the flavor of black cherry soda without the carbonation of a brand like Stewart's.

However, there simply isn't much here. their farmer's market left much to be desired. Maybe it was an off day, but the meat selection (despite copious advertising outside) was small and outlandishly priced. The rest of the farm stand was also very small and low on stock. We frequent Abma's Farm often, who do the same sort of thing and their market is constantly stocked to the brim and their prices are significantly lower for similar quality meat and produce. Service was kind and courteous. The land here is absolutely gorgeous. Just go with reasonable expectations.

It was such a beautiful night, my parents and I came and we each got our own pizza. Pizza came out in maybe 15 minutes, we sat and waited and just chilled. It was a beautiful night. I am so appreciative that Windy Brow has a vegan cheese option, so I could be included! I got the Margherita pizza and subbed vegan cheese. The crust and dough were incredible - so fluffy, perfectly crispy, amazing thick crust. The vegan cheese was also great, and the sauce too. Just a perfect pizza. My dad got a regular Margherita and loved it, and my mom got the fungi pizza with mushrooms and was raving about it. My boyfriend got the pig and fig and (of course) loved it as well. We all raved to each other about how amazing everything was. For a farm to do something like this when they don't need to, shows that they love what they do! You can really feel the love in the pizza. We then got ice cream after since the ice cream stand was still open. I got the vegan dark chocolate sea salt (literally incredible, perfect consistency, I love hard ice cream so this was amazing), my boyfriend got Madagascar vanilla and said it was a perfect classic vanilla, my dad said the cherry vanilla was the best he's ever had, and my mom who doesn't love ice cream got the lemon blueberry butter cake and was raving about it. It was not inexpensive but I like knowing my food doesn't have GMO's so worth it. I have to say I had never actually cooked a grass-fed steak myself but the lady there told me to be careful with it since it could easily dry out and get tough if over-cooked. She also said to cook it in half the time as a regular steak and she was definitely right about this. I Googled how to cook and everyone said to either slow cook or sear with Olive oil, s&p on it. I just happened to have cooked some bacon and decided to use that as my fat to sear it. I almost overcooked to well done and that was with taking half off the normal time I would have used for a medium. However, the flavor was outstanding and worth an hour to get more. Next time I will sear 3 min, flip and stick in hot oven or grill for 3, then let rest for about 7. By the way, I bought eggs too and they were also great.

I love picking out some new Polish candies and sweets to try along with the Polish sausages, Asian produce, and maybe Italian bakery cookies and canned goods. It's true that the actual produce quality can vary in freshness, so you do need to inspect items and be prepared to use them quickly. But the staff is very nice and I can leave with an overflowing cart of good items to cook with for no more than $30-40.
