However, you don't get a private room but more like a secluded-ish area. The toilets are clean and well supplied so dont let the exterior fool you. They got a good supply of toilet tissues, dry floors and hand wash. But sometimes they make us sit on tables that havent been cleaned or wiped properly.

A female front staff then quickly put her mask loop hanging on her ear as soon as she noticed us but did not wear it to cover her nose and mouth while taking our order at the counter. Staffs did not wear mask during their entire shift I believe as she continued having no mask on her 15 mins later when passing us our orders. Also neither kitchen staff wore mask yesterday as we noticed when we entered in . Enclosed shop with all doors shut. This is a brand-new vegetarian Vietnamese restaurant in Footscray, right around the corner from the…read moretrain station. And it's yummy. I like Vietnamese food, but vegans and vegetarians usually find Vietnamese cuisine a bit tricky because it can contain beef stock, pork bones, etc. during the cooking process. And sometimes stuff gets lost in translation, where "vegetarian" in a Vietnamese restaurant could easily mean "no chunks of meat actually in the food but including animal products in the stock or sauce." So yeah, even "vegetable pho" or "vegetarian pho" is questionable. I'm always a little uneasy eating at a regular Vietnamese restaurant for that reason. But at a fully vegetarian Vietnamese restaurant, a lot of those concerns evaporate. Lots of times the owners are vegetarian Buddhists and will definitely not use any beef or pork in their cooking process for religious reasons. You still have to watch out for egg, but it's a lot easier overall. Huong Viet is one of those places. Nearly all their meals are vegan, with the egg-containing meals being the exception rather than the norm. And these ones are clearly-marked as "vegetarian" on the menu, so you know you can avoid them (or request modifications to make it vegan). I came with two friends and we shared three dishes: the Com Đo, the Tàu Hu Chiên Xa, and the Mì / Hu Tieu / Pho Xào Thap Cam (geez, giving the ol' Character Map a good workout). The Com Đo (tomato rice, cashew nuts and sesame shredded tofu) was the least impressive. It was still tasty, but kind of ordinary. I think adjusting the spices would give it a bit more flair. The Tàu Hu Chiên Xa (deep-fried lemongrass tofu), however, was DELICIOUS. A really nice lemongrass flavour and plenty of veggies to offset the unhealthiness of eating something deep-fried. We enjoyed this dish a lot. The Mì / Hu Tieu / Pho Xào Thap Cam (stir-fried rice noodles with mixed mock meat) was also tasty, although not all the mock meats were that great. Mock meats are not all created equal, and some of them definitely tasted better than others. But the flavours of the dish were quite nice and I'd order it again. (Make sure to specify "vegan" on this one so they don't give you egg noodles.) Price-wise, this isn't dirt-cheap Vietnamese but it's still very reasonably priced. Atmosphere-wise, Huong Viet was super-clean and bright and nicely decorated (although a lot of the pictures on the wall were of European places, not Vietnamese places. I'm guessing some of this decor "fell off the back of a truck" somewhere, ha!) Service-wise, SUPER friendly staff -- he just seemed like a really happy and cheerful guy, and positivity is contagious, so that was nice :) Will definitely go back and try some of their other options (especially their house specials, which are $2 off at the moment).

The most popular choice for dinner was laksa but we've been there so instead went for another top 5? Hem27 Vietnamese. Located on the block in front of coles it's a deceptively small front with plenty of seats that extend towards the back. This is the area of shops right before Showground on the same side. $17+ stirfry this place is more expensive than your average minimal deco Vietnamese place. We picked it because it looks cleaner than the average too, with Vietnamese the nicer it looks the more expensive it is. The main seating area, when we left. It was almost full during service. Arriving as one person we were sent to the loners lane, the hallway. You can face the fridge or towards the back. Wonton Soup $6 - Starting with a soup, there were four wontons, I love mom's version but she's not here and I can barely cool. These wontons were plain though the broth was good, they aren't authentic. Fine Net Seafood Spring Rolls with Fine Rice Vermicelli $12 - A platter! To be eaten leaf cup style, watch out for the fish sauce running down your arms! There were enough cups for all but the last three spring rolls. The spring rolls themselves were crispy and held their own light. I've never had these before, lightly seasoned they weren't too salty nor did I encounter an unwanted pepper! I do prefer normal spring rolls actually. You don't actual need fish sauce for the spring rolls, but rather the vermicelli. The verdict? Delicious and I'm falling at a fast and steady rate into a food coma after these two dishes. At $12 this is standard pricing which I'm very pleased with, as these could go for $14-16 with the deco of this place. Sweet Steamed Rice Cake (BÁNH BÒ) $6 Made from rice flour with a slight aroma of coconut served with coconut cream What they didn't say was that this dessert is designed for 2-3 people! It's a spongy but not cake cake thing, made of rice flour. It's like lola's white cake in Hawaii. I like it! It's a bit sweet and sour, dipped into a creamy coconut cream, all that was missing was some sesame seeds! Service? They do take card. Service was good though a bit lost in translation when I ordered off the menu (that vermicelli in my main, a different type was paired with the spring rolls, though I asked for a different noodle). Foreign but friendly. Their website is great, minus the lack of a pdf menu download, very easy to use with a full menu. Most Vietnamese places don't do this. Will we be back? Sure, if we're in the area.

The char sui bao was pretty good and rather flavoursome. The prawns in batter were really good and were really tasty especially when you dip them in Tartare sauce. Parking is really easy but watch for potholes in the carpark. Also, for 30 dishes (yes, I ordered multiple dishes of the same thing), as there were 5 other people with me, as there was a 25% discount at the time of writing, it cost just $96. Overall, I might come back here if I was closer to this location.
