Seen was our master bourbon blender and she was so knowledgeable and made this whole experience memorable and unforgettable. We did a tour around where she explained everything. We felt like you were family and we loved how personalized our experience was. It was different than some of the bigger distilleries that felt less personal and more corporate, which made this experience even more special. Our tasting was amazing and we learned a lot about the aging of bourbon and the stave aging that they do at J Mattingly Distillery. One of my favorite parts was the welcome cocktail at the beginning--it was really tasty and a fun way to kick off the tour. The tasting itself was well done, and the staff throughout the distillery were friendly and welcoming. The gift shop is also worth checking out. It's one of the larger ones we've visited, with lots of bourbon, merchandise, and unique goodies to browse. Overall, another great experience, and I'd definitely recommend stopping here if you're touring the Bourbon Trail.

The tour was great, even though we had terrible weather with a big storm coming through. The tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly and answered all of my questions without hesitation. The tasting room is super nice and there is plenty of space for a big group so you aren't crowded. I loved that they teach you about the different mashbills and how to tell which is which on their bottles. They have a lot of great items in the gift shop - I bought my dad a shirt and also got one for myself, along with a little baby snifter. Come check it out, you'll be glad that you did!

The initial impression as you pull into Wild Turkey is that this is a manufacturing and industrial site first and foremost. While that does take away from the initial "wow factor" as a guest, it is understandable. Once you get past that, you arrive at the visitor center, which has a view that is absolutely incredible and outdoor amenities that would make hanging out there quite enjoyable. Unfortunately, the inside experience at the gift shop left much to be desired. We did not do the tour, so this is only based on the visitor center and retail experience. Upon entering, we were greeted by a friendly face and directed toward the gift shop. The bartender was friendly, but the other three employees had their heads buried in their phones and did not seem concerned with our experience or offering help. While that may not be unexpected in some places, at a location like this, especially after visiting Buffalo Trace earlier in the day, it felt very subpar. The bottle selection on the shelf was fairly standard and did not feel much different from what I could find at a local liquor store. Some prices also seemed higher than local shops. Of the 15+ bottles we purchased today, none were from here. We considered trying a flight or a few samples, but the prices felt more reminiscent of a downtown bar than a distillery tasting experience. While we were not on a budget, the feeling of being overcharged deterred us from moving forward with the samples we had been interested in. I will not say that I would never go back, but I would not put this at the top of our Bourbon Trail list either, unless maybe for the views and a picnic.

The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and you can tell they really care about what they're doing. The whole property adds to the charm--beautiful views, a relaxed atmosphere, and even some animals wandering around that make it feel like a true Kentucky experience. As a Harvest Hosts location, it's one of the best we've stayed at. Plenty of space, peaceful setting, and just an all-around great place to spend the night after enjoying some bourbon. Highly recommend whether you're stopping in for a tasting or staying overnight--you won't be disappointed.

He really enjoyed it (he knows a thing or two about bourbon and Manhattans since he's been drinking them for a better part of 50+ years), so I decided to surprise him with another bottle of this particular bourbon, since you can't purchase it out of the state of KY. The price seemed high to me (as it did last year based on the amount you get in the bottle), but my dad does so much for me and my family, that a $35 bottle of bourbon seems nominal. I will say, I'm sure they sell this at area liquor stores, but due to not having a rental car and having such a short trip, I didn't really have time to bargain shop.

We met the owner who is pretty damn cool, retired school teacher who opened a winery. We each tried 5 tastings, each one had a story, a pairing to try and in most cases how to turn it into a sangria. The cheese spreads were incredible and so was the jelly made from the wine. The barn was decorated nicely and seemed to have comfortable couches. We ended up purchasing 3 bottles of wine, feta dill cheese spread (2) and a strawberry wine jelly. The winery was unique and definitely worth a stop.
