Mr. Sexton didn't keep me informed of my situation, didn't answer proposals from opposing council, didnt return phone calls., billing didn't match the time meeting in the office nor the days, he over billed and the billing reflect what the attorney's actually claim regarding the work they claim they did. Double billed on fax and emails. When i asked Sexton about the billing he quoted "you calling me a liar"? and laughing. I asked James Sexton to draw a motion to the court for my (court ordered) Pende lite support he refused to do so. I was told by Sexton "oh no it was cost too much". But then he kept billing me thousands weekly he said, to read my paperwork. My retainer for 25,000.00 was gone in few weeks. My first interaction with Mr. Ripps was at the Suffern Court in Rockland County two years ago. I…read morenoticed how he interacted with his clients and I was a taken aback on how professional, kind and friendly he was towards them. His friendly demeanor gave me the confidence to approach him and introduce myself at the Court. I explained to him the predicament that I was in (which was not a good one). I was facing up to "15 years" of incarceration. Once I finished my explanation, with a big smile, he said not to worry and gave me his contact details and asked that I set up time with him at his office. Per his instructions, I reached out to his office the following day and quickly got an appointment with him. When I met him, he thoroughly listened to me. He was so reassuring, caring, understanding, explained everything thoroughly (so that I could understand) and was non-judgmental towards me. I immediately hired him as my attorney. Prior to me hiring Mr. Ripps, I had to appear in court every month. It was difficult for me as the court appearances were late in the evening and I had to ensure that my home health aide could stay and look after my husband, Rafael, who is non-verbal and bed-ridden. I am his sole and primary caretaker. Mr. Ripps immediately wrote a letter to the court, in which I signed to waive my court appearances and he would show up on my behalf. This was a very big burden lifted of me. The District Attorney also wanted me to appear at a Grand Jury. Which he also made go away. I was scared and nervous that as a Gay and Hispanic man, I would be discriminated again. Mr. Ripps always treated me with the up most respect. I never felt any discrimination, or any judgement being passed over me. I will forever be grateful for how I was treated and what Mr. Ripps did for me and my husband. This could have been a not so favorable situation for not only me but for my husband. If I were to go to prison, who would take care of my husband?
