This place is brilliant. It is part of the Con Christopolous empire (like the City Wine Shop, Neapoli, The European). It is upstairs from the wine bar Kirk's and it is just a little bit more fancy. It is a great place for dinner (and they do lunch too). As a pescatarin I found there were plenty of options. Vegetarians would probably be fine as well, though more limited, and a few of the vegie sides had meat in them (bacon etc). On my last visit I had a beautiful dish of smoked salmon, avocado with lightly fried crumpets, followed by a perfectly cooked John Dory with roasted cauliflower. I would say the food is French bistro-style but also very Melbourne. Judging by the winter menu it is also seasonal, so I look forward to trying a different menu at another time.
It is well-staffed, always easy to catch someone's eye and food appears promptly but with good spacing between courses. The wine, of course, is delicious, it is on the pricey side but the wines are excellent, better than many places who have adopted the high prices for wine without actually having wine worthy of the price. It seems good for smallish groups and couples, it was very busy but not too noisy when I went on a Friday night. read more
