The customer service at this branch is amazing & the staff was so attentive/professional. It took about 30 mins to open an account and a CD account. They took their time to explain everything and made sure we were happy. It's a smaller bank so I loved knowing that I can use any ATM and not get hit with fees. Sophia was really rude and rolled her eyes several times during the transaction. I never asked her for her assistance. She should've kept her window closed or took the day off. Sophia chose to be a teller in customer service. No one asked her to do customer service. Sophia chose it. I asked her for her name and told her she did not need to roll her eyes. She got very irate with me and wanted to have a yelling match. I informed her that it was unnecessary. She had other employees holding her back as she was yelling and trying to push past them. In my case, Fremont bank's incompetence ultimately proved to be a benefit... Wanted to do business with a local bank, their rates were competitive, etc. so I provided ALL OF THE relevant information as per my finances. I have an (old) atypical credit issue ( no fault of my own) that requires clarification - so I am VERY careful to explain and clarify this anomaly. Intake officer indicated that there was no problem according to their qualification guidelines, so I let them pull my credit - mistake ! Next day they call to tell me that I am ineligible to refi w /them because of an issue with my credit. Um - ya- that's why It was discussed at length before I agreed to let you pull my credit, jerkfaces! I explain again that this was discussed, and I was repeatedly assured that it was not an issue. Well, it's not THEIR policy they claim, but they are underwritten by Fannie/Freddy , or sell loans according to, so they need to go by those guidelines. Well, I HAVE an existing mortgage, with a major lender mind you, so OF COURSE I meet Fannie criteria. I raise this issue and they promise to get back to me. No one does. Ding goes my credit score - carefully tended and managed up to that point ( I have a refi in my sights, c'mon! I do my homework! ) I'm pissed off royally - a hard pull on my credit is exactly what I didn't want! If it's Fremont policy - your people should have their information correct. Don't tell me it's Fannie Mae policy when it clearly isn't. And yes -I know plenty has changed in the mortgage industry of late- that's why I checked and double checked. Your loan department should do the same. Any valid explanation / 'sorry for the inconvenience' call and I wouldn't have bothered with this negative review. So, I went to my # 2 choice - an online processor - closed in 3 weeks for 1/2 % less than Fremont Bank. So Fremont- you get 5 stars for "helping" with that - thanks! read more

WHY I DON'T WANT TO LIVE IN CALIFORNIA. My wife wants me to feed the parking meeter outside of the coffee shop in downtown San Leandro, but I don't have change. Rather than wait in line again (I already have my order), I see a bank across the street and decide it would be easy to go get change there - AT A BANK. The door is locked and I have to press a buzzer to be admitted (note: it's 11 AM on a sunny day). One customer is finishing his transaction and I think "no prob, this will just take a second". ME: "Hi, [handing the teller a crisp one dollar bill] this will be an easy one", I say pleasantly. "I need 4 quarters for the parking meter." TELLER: [slides the bill in front of his keyboard and looks at the screen] "Do you have an account here?" ME: Red lights immediately go off as I pick my jaw off the floor. I smile a big smile and ask him with incredulity, "....did you really ask me that question? Do I have to have an account to get change for a dollar?? TELLER: "Yes, we can't do any transactions if you don't have an account". ME: ...[speechless] "wow, ...so...you can't help me?" TELLER: "Not unless you have an account." I take my dollar and leave the bank, but I'm in such a state of shock that I decide I have to go back and speak to the manager or someone to verify what I just heard. I get buzzed in again and approach a customer service rep. He gives the same story and tells me about the time he had to buy a pack of gum in San Francisco to get change for the meter. I keep saying, "But this is a BANK. Money is your business. All I wanted was 4 quarters for a dollar bill" I get nowhere. The guy is totally unfazed and has a completely straight face.. What is wrong with this picture? Whatever happened to customer service? This is a great example of regulations trumping common sense. The letter of the law being way more important than the spirit of the law. What kind of a world are we living in? If I had been the employee, my first thought would have been to dig in my pocket or ask the person sitting at the next desk to help out. Not a great way to build relationships in the community and win potential customers in my view. By the way the bank in question is FREMONT BANK in San Leandro, CA. I grew up two blocks from there and I remember it being a somewhat friendlier community in my youth, or a least more accommodating. WHAT HAPPENED? read more

Everyone here is extremely friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable...especially Junior Contreras and Alysha Reddy. Junior helped me through the process of refinance. Alysha helped me get my money back from a business that hadn't delivered my item, and who was refusing to refund my money. She guided me and really went above and beyond to help remedy the situation, and she got it done. She's a rockstar! If you're sick of Wells, BofA, etc., run straight to Fremont. Parking is a little tricky--if you miss the entrance, don't park in the BofA lot next door or you'll get towed. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly--they'll even offer you a bottled water or coffee/tea every time you visit. Don't worry--you won't find a charge for it on your next statement and you won't even get charged for walking in the door, although unlike at other banks, you'll need to be buzzed in. read more

The level of incompetence here is surreal! Never have I had such an issue cashing a check until these last two months. Every month that I get paid by my employer I come to cash it. Every time it's the same thing, they need to verify the check. Only this time apparently only ONE person in that entire corporation is available to do it. So unless Katherine is available come back and try another day. There wasn't any part on the bank clerk or her "manager" to find a solution. Are they serious?! This "manager" wasn't the manager last week I was there dealing with her directly, but ok. I've come here for 8 months now and get helped by the same gentleman all the way to the left hand side. Guess what!? Katherine isn't always there but HE somehow finds someone there to do it. Apparently that's not the case with these girls. One call was enough and that was case close. In the end after much attitude from them they took a copy of the check and would call me back IF Katherine calls back but if she didn't oh well. Well another battle ensue just because I couldn't understand how if no one calls them back then that was it. They weren't even willing to follow up in case she didn't. Hey if she doesn't fine let me know so I can escalate to someone that can do something. Shit just pretend that you care. Pretend to understand. Even if you don't, guess what you get paid to give customers a good customer experience at your location and you ladies fell short of that. read more

The tellers were all very friendly and I was greeted when I came in. Got all my banking needs taken care of fast and even had the opportunity to meet the branch manager Greg. I let him know that his staff was very helpful and friendly. Will definitely be coming back to this location when I am out here again. Worse bank ever. I have closed my account end of July. Teller took my ATM card and he told me my account closed. In August I received a statement and there a $2 charge on 8/17 for paper statements and this cause an overdraw by $2. A week later I received a noticed that I owe $8 and $6 charges will charge daily to my accounts until balance paid. When I called customer service, apparently my account never closed. Hands down the staff at the San Leandro Branch is wonderful (Cassandra, Charles & Anthony-great tellers). They are friendly and they know our name when we come in. I went to this branch to cash a check as a non accountholder from my employer who has account there. I presented the forms of ID required plus my work ID, yet the teller refused to cash the check because my company isn't open on the weekend so they could get verbal verification. I went here to open an account because my dad told me credit unions are better than an actual bank. I have been banking with Wells Fargo since 2012. Other than that I wanted to open another account so I can easily place and save money for my new car that way I won't be spending the money. The service was good but one thing that upset me is that they don't give you a temp card until you get your debit/credit card in the mail. So I'm stuck and don't have any access to my funds until I get my card in the mail. 2) in order to open an account you have to deposit $100 3) to set up mobile banking you have to wait 2-3 business days for it to be enabled. read more

Let me start by saying I have been coming to this certain branch for over 5 years and it hasn't been the same since they let my favorite teller Charles and a couple others go and that was awhile ago! So the last couple of times I've always had a problem with the tellers depositing my money into a different account which is under my moms name. Whatever, no big deal it always got fixed so now I always make sure to tell the teller the exact account number to put it in which has worked out. I went in yesterday expecting to make a quick deposit and transfer of funds into another account so I had all my things ready (I.d, account number, ATM card ect) whatever would make the process go faster. I didn't have to wait in line long and was greeted by the teller which was a young man. I've never seen him before so I figured he was new to the branch. Ok so something goes wrong with my transaction and he needed the manager which was the only one who can do it, override the transaction. So she was attending another teller and her customer b/c the customer was confused about something that she obviously was not getting after the millionth different way the manager explained it to her so now all eyes are on them and I had to wait to the point where it finally hit the manager that it was more appropriate to pull the customer aside and tell her she will be helped further after she dealt with the other customers (which included me). Even after she had me and the teller waiting on her for sooooo long I was still ok and relieved as she came over until she opened her mouth. Look I don't care who's fault it is that I was standing there for too long but act professional! She came over immediately knowing what half of the problem was but she just blamed the teller for the problem when we had so much time waiting on her that I seen him re-check what he did HE JUST NEEDED A OVER RIDE! She totally killed my mood. Word of advice if a coworker needs your help to get a customer on their way then you do it and if you have a problem with what they did then tell them on your own time not mine. read more

Both experiences were handled without issue and were as smooth a loan process that we have had (we have done 10+ different loan purchase and refinance transactions since our first house). Rob kept us informed, assisted us when we had questions, and most importantly, we closed when we wanted to by going down to the Walnut Creek branch for our signing. In addition to Rob the Loan Officer, both the processor and the branch person that scheduled the signing were terrific to work with. I have been banking with Fremont Bank for years now and i have not encountered a person like the Manager in the San Leandro branch she was very un -professional and i felt like she wanted to start an argument with me instead of helping me with my account. When i walked in i was looking for a manager to help me with my account but to my surprise i was explaining what was wrong this manager started raising her voice like she doesn't want to deal with me. In the past i have been going to the same branch and i was not treated this way. I don't if she was new but i think she is in the wrong type business she has no sense of customer service. I've been banking here for about 15 years. They're usually friendly, knowledgeable and fast. I also obtain my home loans and refinancing from Fremont Bank. As with most banks, there is a high turnover of tellers, but when there is not, they usually remember me and won't ask for an ID if I need a few thousand dollars for a vacation. I don't mind being buzzed in, since it does make it more difficult for potential robbers. Because I have an ATM card from Fremont Bank that allows me withdrawals from any bank without any service charge, and perform most of my transaction online, I don't make it down to the bank much. They've made a few mistakes, so you'll need to watch your statement. I once had a withdrawal made on my checking account from another person with a similar name. I also had a check that was not deposited to my account for over a week until I called them. But overall, its service is much better than my two most hated banks, B of A and Wells Fargo!
