I bent a rim on my Kona; not sure where it happened but noticed it as I was riding into Jasper with my family. Found Freewheel Cycle, and as they looked super busy (this was a Thursday before a long weekend) I wasn't expecting much, and expecting it to be expensive even if they could help me. They were really friendly, and the tech spent 20 minutes tightening my spokes so I could ride back to the campground, with the agreement I would bring it back for truing the next day. So, brought it back and left the rim for the day - was expecting it to be spendy - $25. I was super happy, both that they'd fit me in at a busy time, had helped me out in a pinch, and that the pricing was fair. Highly recommend this place! read more

At Freewheel, you pay for quality at a modest price. I rented a Kona mountain bike that costs about $1400 to buy, for $8 an hour. Yes, if someone steals it, you might be in trouble! However, for someone like me who has never had the chance to ride such a bike, it was a terrific experience! The bikes are top quality and are in great shape. You don't hear a sound from the chain, wheel or body while biking. The staff or also helpful in getting you organized for your day. They have their own little "cartoon" trail map but are happy to show you exactly what's good and what's doable for you. I had a great day, biked for roughly 4 hours and paid about 30 bucks for it. No complaints. The trails they suggested were quite tremendous! They also rent city bikes and half suspensions for those looking to bike around town or do modest climbs to Pyramid lake or something, on paved roads. I cant' wait to get back to Jasper and bike again! read more

I bought my commuter here while on vacation over Labour Day weekend. A $480 Kona bike, shopworn but on sale for $330? Absolutely! I tried it out with no intention of buying it, but it rode really well and I thought I'd be an idiot to pass it up (particularly since my beloved Trek was stolen in July and I was riding around on a Raleigh beater from the 70s). It was barely shopworn, but the few visible scuffs actually made it more attractive to me--I hate new bikes because I can't stand to be responsible for the inevitable first scratch. Someone had saved me the trouble! The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, and kindly took apart and packed up my new bike for its roof rack ride back to Edmonton. While they worked on my bike, I poked around the shop. I secured a cute Volcom skirt and a pair of cycling gloves at 40% off, but they were lacking in cycling-related equipment such as locks, cables, and pumps. I was told it was because it was the end of the season, which made perfect sense. They also rent mountain bikes and cruisers--it would be an excellent way to get around Jasper in the summer, albeit a bit pricey. Living in Edmonton, I'd be more likely to bring mine. But still an awesome option should very-far-out-of-towners ever travel there with me. I was also told to bring my bike in anytime I had it in Jasper for a free inspection and tune-up. Nearly two months later, I'm still in love with my bike. However, I have to mention that I emailed the shop with a question about my bottom bracket (which looked like it was missing a cover) the day after I got back into town. I even called the shop to talk to my salesperson (who is also the owner, I think), but he was never in when I phoned, nor did he ever answer my email. I actually had to stop by a Kona retailer here in town to get an answer (happily, it was complete). But the face-to-face service I received was excellent, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the shop. read more

What?! $9.44 for a new tube and tire repair! This place is fantastic, oh yeah, and there's more to it. Didn't really peruse but the selection looks great, the staff was super friendly. There's an abundance of posters inviting you to various rides. The prices for rentals look reasonable, but I didn't see the actual bikes. Given the rest of the shop I'm sure they are just as great. read more

Thanks W, I was in Jasper for 2 days. Hired a great bike and joined the ladies evening ride. What fun I had! A great bunch of local women made me feel welcome. Recommend this to any one from beginner to hard core mountain biker. Good job guys. read more

All the teens that work here are polite if not knowledgeable. The adult staff were pretentious and and played sales games with the cost. They only have two kid bikes. Our older kids had to use adult bikes and were charged adult prices even though their age suggested otherwise on their posted price. The gear was in fairly good condition, especially the adult gear. read more

I invested in my first 'proper' mountain bike last August (a little late on the review). I had great service support from Viet to assist me in selecting my brand new Kona. I ended up selecting an upgraded bike and increasing my budget slightly after Viet explained some differences and upgrades and it was absolutely worth it. I also appreciated being new to the mtn biking scene that he did not use tech talk that I wasn't familiar with. Since the purchase I have had a few service appointments which were accommodated quickly and they showed great care for both me and also the bike and keeping it in good shape for long term care. The group rides they host are also and added perk that are open to anyone. Great social group to meet new friends. Thanks for being so awesome Freewheel Team :) read more

The friendliest staff I've encountered at a bike shop. I'm not from there but if I lived in Jasper this would be my go to shop. Jasper is lucky to have them. Customer service is so good you'll end up thinking your own local shops aren't as helpful as you thought! I can't recommend this place enough - perfect place for out of towners to rent high quality bikes. read more

Good price on a 2012 Stuff. Only problem was with the assembly. The rear brake mount came off completely after about a week of use. I called the shop to see what to do and they never called me back. In the end I had it repaired somehere else out of pocket. read more
