We spent a week on freedom,a party of 10.
It was a little tight, the captain was great and very knowledgeable about the islands and told great stories.
Food was absolutely amazing the chief was fabulous.
So here are the things that make it a 3 star and not a 5 star.
The boat is old and needs a lot of TLC, sleeping quarters were ok ,but bathrooms were tiny and had no ventilation, and kind of musty.
It is a training vessel, there for the crew are on the boat to learn, so that was a little awkward at times.
We felt like the price did not reflect the total package. We felt like we were nickel and dimed for everything. We wish they would have just put it all together in one lump sum.
The budget for 10 people food and drinks for a week was $1500.
That was no where near enough, so there for you pay more at the end.
WiFi on the boat is extremely expensive. We paid $400 additional dollars for it. No one streamed movies and everyone turned their notifications, all we did was text and check emails. The video for the boat had to be made way back where ,the boat is a 1983 trimaran, it has a LOT of dings and dents ,scars etc and needs some attention for sure. The only way on the vessel is to jump from the tender boat on to it. We were all able to do it , got a few bruises but anyone with a slight mobility issue would really struggle.
The tender boat had a roll out deck type ramp so we didn't have to get wet going a shore. That did not work! So we got wet every time! The captain was mostly alone with the tender so our men had to pull and push the boat and load us girls.
Were were never in the salon till the last day to watch a video, that was basically for the crew and captain. Air conditioning in $75 a night, and you need it! Unless you come from not being spoiled by AC. And lastly there is no laundry on the boat so you are using the same two towels all week long,the hang them on the rails everyday to dry and the give them back,with 5 couples and 10 towels hanging on the rails was a bit odd and we all "shared " the same towels , kinda weird.
The captain is very proud of his boat and maybe speaks of it through rose colored glasses.
The trip was wonderful, we had a blast. At the weeks end we owed an additional $1500 for a total of about $28,000 for a week for the 10 of us.
We did not get the full food package, only 2 dinners,4 lunches,and everyday breakfast.
It sounds like I didn't enjoy it. But I did I was just expecting things on board to be a bit nicer, the video was a little mis leading.
The places we picked to go were awesome,and the weather was wonderful, only put the sails up for a few hours one day, so we didn't get to experience the "sail boat" we motored all over. That was fine ,can't control the wind so it was fine. We had a GREAT time, and the food that Clive (the chef) prepared was amazing and super nice! read more
