If you only have time for 1 touristy thing, this is a MUST do! You get to spend maybe 45 minutes to an hour in the underwater scooters then snorkeling. You will get to see 1/2 century old ship wreck, lots of fish, coral, and other see creatures. And Captain Damian and his staff are most excellent hosts, fun, informative and very safe. What a beautiful experience to share as a family I really didn't know what to expect when I booked this trip several weeks ago. But WOW was it COOL! My husband and son and I all loved it. So many beautiful fish of different colors and species and being able to see them down deeper than I can swim without needing to scuba dive was awesome! We actually are now thinking of getting scuba certified as this experience got us closer and deeper than we have ever been with the beauty of the ocean. We are Hooked! If you're not a diver, this experience is worth you time and money. The staff and Captain Andrew were exceptional. The staff makes getting into the water and into the apparatus very simple. I booked online and the process and return emails explained all that was needed. We were met at the dock by Jessica, which was nice and professional. Note... We were on Royal Caribbean and the dock was 2.5 miles away. Not a problem as we took a taxi for $8 (one way). The trip out of port was very beneficial because Captain Tom briefed us on safety and how to use the underwater scooters. His personality was great and he joked through the material, but making all his points for safety. We got to snorkel first and then took the scooters out. The crew was great as they ensured you got a great experience with sooo many fish and photos. It's best to have a go pro type camera instead of a phone in a secure bag. There was water to drink and cookies available for everyone. NOTE... we had two non-swimmers that got on the scooters and enjoyed this underwater activity. While you go down approximately 10 feet they experienced something they never would have if they stayed on board on the shore. Kudos to them. Great experience because of a first-class operation. Purchased through a cruise line. Prior to arriving at the port, everyone who booked this tour had to fill out a medical history form while still on the ship before they would give out the ticket for the tour. A representative from the company met us right outside the ship and again personally asked everyone about their physical condition before signing another waiver. They really want to make sure you are physically capable of handling this excursion! We then walked just over a half mile through the port area to the boat that took us out to the snorkeling area. We were split up into 3 groups and told we could snorkel with the equipment provided before or after our group's turn on the underwater scooter. One of the scuba divers who went around with the tour had a bottle full of something that attracted fish, so there were lots of colorful fish swimming around near the boat and her. Took a little while to get everyone situated on their scooters, but the ride was fun. We went over a shipwreck and we stopped in one area while they put out more stuff to attract fish. For those who brought underwater cameras, the scuba diver escorts took the cameras to get footage with you on your scooter and fish. A note for that, though it had to be an actual underwater camera like a GoPro or similar, they will not take your phone in a bag to take pictures for you due to insurance reasons. You can bring a phone in a bag if you want at your own risk, but they will not touch it. The scooter portion was around 25 minutes. Afterward, they had cookies, water, and juice to drink. The tour description said there would be a shower for rinsing onboard, but we were told it was broken and parts had been ordered 2 weeks prior. The tour was fun, and we got back in plenty of time to do other things in port before leaving. read more

This was the one excursion we wanted to do on our cruise and it did not disappoint! The crew was fabulous, organized, efficient, and helpful. We were briefed on everything and put into groups. While we waited our turn we could enjoy some snorkeling, light snacks and cold water. When it was our groups turn to go they called for us and and made sure we were ready. There were some in our group that were a little claustrophobic and decided against it. We had no issues getting in the scooter and once in, we followed our guides commands and got to scooting around the ocean floor. We enjoyed this time so much. Definitely suggest trying this next time in St Thomas. Bring your own camera, not camera phone. We didn't chance taking our phones in the water and the crew will only take pictures using proper underwater camera equipment. read more

Amazing tour! I'd give them 10 stars if I could. The staff was very friendly and informative. We've done the diver helmets before in St. Thomas Coral World and Orlando Aquatica. Both were wonderful, but this was so much more fun to ride the scooter and see the shunken ship! I was a little nervous about getting in the helmet and driving, but both were very easy. Cap'n Jim is a hoot with amusing safety speel, but in reality behind the scenes the divers are all business, making sure you're safe. The scooters themselves are fabulous. First time out today! This is a combined snorkel and underwater adventure exploring coral reefs and beautiful fish. The tour lasted about 3.5 hours. We spent 30 minutes in the underwater gizmos and the rest of the time snorkeling about. It was great fun and very well managed. I felt safe and comfortable the entire time. Once inside the underwater thing, we got very comfortable very fast. Then we scootered about the cove exploring a reef and a ship wreck. There were lots of fish, literally eating out of their hands. Be sure to bring $20 for an underwater camera. Capt Jim sells them and the divers will take your pic underwater. The whole adventure is carefully managed and choreographed by Capt Jim and his team of divers. You are never unsupervised. The equipment is all 1st rate and you receive ample instruction on how to safely use it. This was so much better than what we experienced in Mexico snorkeling tours. I highly recommend this excursion from a cruise ship, or contact Jim directly. I would definitely go again. read more

We had booked our BOSS excursion through our cruise line with Royal Caribbean. I was hesitate at first because I'm not a good swimmer. But the rest of my party wanted to do something we had never done before. I was really nervous about it. It turned out to be a really awesome adventure. We had to meet outside our port at 7:30 am. The whole excursion took about 3.5 hours. We easily found the person in charge of gathering everyone. We completed our waivers and was directed to go on the charter boat. There was about 30 people with us. It was about a 20 min boat ride before we got to where we would water scooter. First the captain explained in detail how to get in and out of the scooters, how to maneuver it and the hand signals we would be using under water. How to breath and relax while under there. He was very thorough on explaining all this. We were split up in 3 different groups. What I didn't know was that we also got to snorkel while each group went on the water scooters. So pretty much 2 excursions in one! Each group had 25 mins to riding the water scooters while the other groups left on the boat could snorkel. There was 3 or 4 other divers that went with us. I felt safe knowing this. They really kept a close eye on us and made sure to keep us all together. The experience it self was spectacular. We saw a lot of different kinds of fishes. The scooters are easy to control. And if the divers see you getting to close to another scooter, the divers will pull you apart. Towards the end of the water scooter excursion, the divers separate you with your own group that you came with and take your pictures or videos for you. All in all, I am so glad we decided to this excursion. I totally recommend it if your in St. Thomas. ProTip: You can purchase a water camera on board for $20. read more

I took the BOSS tour in St Thomas. I want to say that the crew is amazing and truly concerned about the safety of all participants. I couldn't recommend this team any higher. That being said, the tour isn't for everyone. I was determined to get inside and truly give it a go, and for about five minutes it worked.....but then it went down hill quickly. I am a heavy breather and don't do well when the air feels warm. I wasn't able to regulate my breathing and being inside the helmet, I kept hearing my breathing getting louder and louder. The air being pumped in isn't cool, so that also started making me feel a little nauseous. I made the appropriate hand signal to get out and the diver was immediately there to help and assist me. I mean she couldn't have assisted me any faster unless she was on the scooter with me. Every crew member was very sincere and told me it's not for everyone but giving it a go was the important part. I didn't feel embarrassed and enjoyed my time on the boat and snorkeling a little bit. I am 100% glad I went and gave it a shot. Just know if you are going to St Thomas and you are on the fence, I would recommend you go for it since you will feel comfortable that the crew will care for you. read more

BOSS was the most awesome experience I had on my trip to the Caribbean. My BOSS excursion was booked through Princess Cruise Lines. We met the BOSS team early in the morning. They were very friendly. On our trip out to the viewing area, our guides pointed out marine life such as dolphins. Once at our destination, we were sectioned off into two groups. There are only so many water scooters, so group one got to go first and group two was given snorkel gear to explore while they wait for their turn. Snorkeling was great. There were so many fish to look at. One of the crew members threw cat food into the water by us so all the fish would come to us to feed. We could actually pet the fish they were so focused on the food. The water scooter experience was a little scary but exciting. One lady had a panic attack and was not able to get on the underwater scooter. Everyone else adjusted ok. I felt bad for her. I'm somewhat claustrophobic, so going under water and popping up in a bubble was kinda hard/scary. Once I acclimated , I slowly descended deeper into the water guided by the crew member. He told me to plug my nose and blow so my ears would adapt to the depth. Once I was calm and adjusted to being able to breath under water, all was good. Once our group minus one, was acclimated, we were guided through the underwater oasis . Many people had under water cameras and the crew sold waterproof throwaway cameras for a reasonable fee.
