My son spent six and seventh grades with FPE. He liked it so much that he wanted to continue with one class even though he went to a physical private school in his eight grade. We are debating putting him into a local private academy for high school and FPE. Even so, he still wants to take one class with FPE if he were to go to the local academy. He likes it that much. He's made friends at FPE. He's gotten to know the teachers. I feel like the staff give me personal attention. It's like any other school. Academically is very challenging. He was reading Peter Schiff in the seventh grade! He was so thoroughly educated. I hate to leave this school and go to a local private academy. I love the staff, the teachers and the academics. My son wants to be involved in a school that has a hockey team, jazz band, chess club, etc. I understand that. This is a great school for people that want to home school that have lots of kids in the church or lots of siblings. We don't have either. read more

Our three children are wrapping up their first year of Freedom Project Academy (grades 1st, 3rd, and 5th). They all thrived in this environment and were equally nourished and challenged by the amazing teaches. I love that the school and teachers expect hard work and effort and cheer them on to be the best they can be. We are enrolled for next year for all three. read more

This was out first year (2018-2019) at Freedom Project Academy and we have loved it. We have really liked the teacher, Mrs. Missildine, made the year so fun. The joy of watching a 10 year old finally understand math has been incredible. I can't say enough good about our experience. Our public school years were fine, but the tears from the "girl frenemy fights" were the final straw, not to mention the teaching down to the slowest student in the class. She was so bored in public school and working at her own pace as really made a difference. If you're on the fence about pulling your child out of public school and bringing them home to a loving environment where they can thrive, don't hesitate to enroll. read more

We have nearly finished our first year with Freedom Project Education and it has been an excellent one. The online courses each meet twice a week. The student sees the teacher on the webcam. Students turn in their assignments through very up to date software. Students also have opportunity to work with other students on projects and reports. We have found the teachers to be professional, friendly, and most importantly great at their craft. The administrative staff answers questions and addresses problems in a swift and personal manner. We love and value the integrity we have experienced in dealing with both the teachers and administrative staff. For a small seemingly insignificant example, they state very clearly up front, if your assignment is late, it earns a '0'. One of our sons turned in an assignment late, guess what? It did indeed earn a zero. He never did it again. For a high school boy this taught him a much needed lesson in time management and personal responsibility! FreedomProject is an academic challenge! The courses for our boys, (enrolled in 9th and 11th grades), have been rigorous. That for us is a plus. The curriculum choices are solid. We appreciate very much how the staff is concerned about personal development not just academics. One of our boys struggled with the workload of one course, and his teacher was very helpful, encouraging our son to work up to his potential. This particular teacher has done a wonderful job helping prepare our son for college level work. We've seen our son's confidence in what he is able to do personally and academically soar this year. We've been with other online schools and used many different programs in our twenty+ years of homeschooling and Freedom Project Education has been among the most excellent programs we have found. read more

My family has been into homeschooling since my first child was born 16 years ago. We did our best to educate and spent a good deal of time collecting the right books to provide all they needed to learn. What we lacked was a formal program or curriculum. We needed some structure to help out. When we heard about FPE (advertized as a common core free curriculum with Judeo-Christian values) we thought this would be a good idea. WRONG!!! What we got was a fundamentalist evangelical Christian curriculum that was filled with incomplete books and other materials. --- Pages and sometimes entire sections were missing from the books. We had to wait for replacements. --- Assignments called out sections that weren't in the books. Not missing. They just didn't exist. --- Teachers gave no clue what the homework was about. --- The terminology for some lessons (such as grammatical terms for an English assignment) were a combination of current, antiquated, and new age (and I believe common core) methodology that confused us as parents who were trying to help the kids understand something that the teacher never touched on during class time. --- The sheer level of homework for my 10 year old was more than I had in my high school AP classes. My kids never had time for recreation, chores, or private learning. --- The scientific lessons continually included references to how God made everything like this (I actually liked this part). But then they went too far in completely denying the controversial issues like evolution. It's not like "this is what the world teaches, and it's just a theory". It was "The world teaches something else that we're not going to cover because it's just plain wrong." Whether we agree with it or not, it is important to cover the topic as a theory. This sort of thing came up several times. --- Being a part of a less popular Christian sect, our children were told to read assignments that specifically insulted us and said how wrong we were. I get that we don't have the same beliefs. But this curriculum was supposed to incorporate Christian VALUES, not doctrines and beliefs. And it was supposed to be general Judeo-Christian values, not just an evangelical curriculum. I get that we don't share all the same beliefs and doctrines. But there are plenty of beliefs that are common to all Christianity (God, Jesus, The Ten Commandments, The Parables, the Beatitudes, etc.) that would we would have had absolutely no problems with. Yet the doctrines sewn into the curriculum were so obviously exclusively fundamentalist that even one of the administrators (a Catholic) had a problem sometimes. --- The curriculum was purposefully more convoluted than it needed to be. Yes, high standards are what we need. But the math problems were so superfluously complex that they confused ME. And I'm an engineer. I do math all day and I had difficulty with these questions. I thought is was a common core curriculum I was looking at. AND some of the answers they gave were wrong. So, when my son had the correct answer, the computer still marked it wrong. Some multiple choice questions didn't have the correct answer available. --- When we presented many of these concerns to the school, they said that they were getting many complaints but they didn't have time to fully vet the curriculum before they started the classes. Freedom Project Academy is the new name for Freedom Project Education. My daughter is in high school and took Latin and Spanish last year and year before last. However, this year (2016-2017) The teacher was changed at the last minute and it has been a disaster. He has not been properly trained in the class interface they use on the internet to conduct class. After I realized it was not going to be a good experience I asked for a refund 3 hours too late. Now that the semester is over, they are once again giving us a new teacher. I have asked for a refund but have if course been denied. Other reviews say they change things without notice and you are stuck with their changes with no recourse except online reviews. I am also going to try to send this to HSLDA if they have reviews online. Stay away from FPA. read more

The people running FPA. They sucked so, so, so much. The teachers were good, but the administration were terrible. They look at themselves as like, I don't know, but a lot better than the students. They gave me a 59 on a class that it took 60 to pass/fail. Like, who does that. "You were almost good enough" That seriously pissed me off. Anyway, terrible school. Wish my parents had just sent us to something normal with normal people running it. Teachers were good though, admin was terrible. can't even use my gpa, all b's and a's. last class, 59/60. We had our boys in Freedom Project for two years, then we decided to try to homeschool on our own the next year, and it wasn't easy to keep my boys motivated! This year we decided to try private school locally, and it has been okay, and we have landed on an amazing teacher for this year, but as you know schools come with mean kids, and worldly influence that creates a lot of stress and distraction from learning. We find ourselves constantly comparing the education from FPA to what my boys are doing now. While I know my boys are learning there are some things that just can't be done in a class setting that you can do while homeschooling. The teacher this year complimented my boys at how they complete worksheets in full sentences, and have good study habits. I attribute this to the education with FPA where they were required to answer fully, and not give simple one-word answers. We can't wait to enroll for next year with FPA again and return to the best curriculum and school experience we have found. In my opinion this school option of FPA provides the best of both worlds; students being challenged and responsible to get work done for a teacher other than mom, and getting a class experience without the worldly pressures that public and private schools provide. I have 4 children enrolled in FPA for the 2nd year in a row. We have experienced grades 1, 2, 3, and 4. Pros: the majority of teachers and students are amazing. Because of this fact alone we have entered a second year at FPA. Cons: the administration (overall) is horrible. We've especially had problems with the lady who is in charge of the elementary portion of the school. She dismisses our complaints, verbally punishes our children's teachers when they've made recommendations to us, and fights us, as the parents, in every way possible. I finally have refused to speak with her, and have gotten better results addressing my concerns with Dr Duke Pesta, who is the head of the school. The math curriculum claims to not be common core, but it is downright confusing! My child has struggled with it in 1st grade, and I had to supplement it during summer break to catch him up to his class. He was doing very well in the summer, and exceeded the level of his classmates. But within 8 weeks of class beginning again, we were back to the same struggle of confusion, hour- long lessons in tears, and frustration. So, during the first semester, I told his teacher and the administration that my son would no longer be completing any of his math work in school. Rather I teach him math at home with a different curriculum. My 3 older children have not struggled in the same way with math, mainly because when they entered FPA they were already several grade levels ahead in math. So, if the work doesn't have to be turned in, I often don't require them to complete it. They do another math curriculum "just for fun" but the FPA math has never been a "fun" math for them. FPA claims the homework load is 2 hours a day, which is simply not true. At times, my children have been given 5-6 hours of homework in one day. I've gotten to the point that I prioritize the work my children are given and only require them to work on it for 2 hours a day. After that, they are free to continue with their day. Overall, we are not happy with this school and other than our love for the 3rd grade teacher, we probably will not send any of our children back to FPA next year. read more

We are finishing up our first year with Freedom Project Academy. I am writing this review because prior to enrolling our two elementary aged children, I had read the first reviewer who said his same aged children were up until 11 p.m. doing homework and how unhappy they were with the curriculum, etc. And I saw this same review all over the internet, in just about every homeschool forum, and I was anxious about our decision to enroll. However, my contacts with the school and my review and knowledge of the chosen curriculum for their grade made me confident that they were going to be getting a solid, Christian education. And that is exactly what has happened over this first year. I could not be more pleased with our decision to enroll our children in FPA. Their teacher was excellent, challenging my high-performing student and motivating my other who needed the extra push to excel. They did not spend hours a day doing homework; even my slow-moving son usually had his homework completed in 2-3 hours at the most (the teacher even checked with me to make sure they were getting their work done in 2 or so hours). Finally, we feel that they have gotten a strong, solid education that has provided a foundation for successful learning in the future. read more
