This school used to be good. But recently especially in the middle school section you have "teachers" who never respond to your messages, kids are confused in their classes because they teacher their way or decide to talk about their personal life with the student instead of teaching the curriculum. Then when parent teacher conferences they split up the 4 teachers into 2 groups and you cannot sign up for both because it's unfair. What's unfair to us parents is no responses/1 week later responses. The principal does not do anything about it either. I tried reaching out to him as well and you guessed it NO RESPONSE! This school is crap and should be closed. Also majority of the teachers do not have their license.... How about getting staff like love to teach and care about these kids they are our future. read more

This is a good school. But it kind of depends on the grade you are in. I have gone here since kindergarten and am now in middle school. My kindergarten- fifth grade experience was great with amazing teachers, nice workers, and pretty good lunch. They also provided us with supplies if we didn't have any and were very supportive. The kids were nice and barley any one got in PHYSICAL fights. But now that I'm in middle school everything is different. The teachers and workers are more strict and not as kind, the lunch is bad ever since they switched programs, and we have had fights almost every couple weeks or months. Just like a different review said they never check the cameras even though they have them everywhere. And finally any time TWO people get in a fight the WHOLE grade gets punished. This is a brand new charter school here in North Las Vegas. The building was finally finished in August. School was set to open Aug 14th, but due to electrical issues school was pushed back to Aug 21st. 1st sign that there would be growing pains with this new school. I have a Kindergartener, & a 6th grader that attend the school. My k schooler starts school at 8am, 6th grader starts at 820am. School ends for the kdgr at 3pm, 6th grader at 330. WHAT SENSE DOES THIS MAKE???? Parents who pick their children up have to wait if they have kids in higher and lower grades. The pick up & drop off system is HORRENDOUS!!!! They've changed the process several times because nothing is working. They've had us download multiple apps for picking up the kids too. It's really crazy how high tech grammar school is. Parents and students are frustrated. The facility of course is nice because it's brand new and pretty big. My kids like their teachers. They enjoy the lunchroom food too, but you have to load money on another app for them to buy lunch. WAYYYYY TOO MUCH! Who's keeping track of what's bought? It's a mess to say the least. My daughter is entering her 3rd year here. Ms.Tackett is an amazing kindergarten teacher. We loved her so much my 2nd daughter has requested her & we r hopefully waiting to see if we got her again. My daughter had Mrs. Furuya for first grade yet another great teacher. This school recently changed it's name, and a lot of the teachers, but they are trying really hard to provide a good experience for the students. They have an excellent special education department, and the kids overall are very well behaved. Every school has its problems, a new school during its first year has many hurdles to jump to find a good dynamic of staff. That being said, this school has been great compared to our last charter school. The staff that wasn't meeting the requirements or visions of the school were replaced and the school has a definite vision and plan to produce educated students. Interesting that at least one of the poor reviewers has returned to the school for the second year (yes, I've seen you and your children during the first week of this new school year). If they felt that the school was/is so wrong, why continue to 'torture' your family by attending? There are at least three other charter schools in the area as well as public and homeschooling options. If what you were experiencing was so egregious, why not remove your beloved children from that environment immediately and not return again for the second year? Our experience with the school has been mostly positive, although like I said, there are hurdles to jump and you can't please everyone. The staff we have interacted with all have the children's best interest in mind. No staff we interacted with has treated any child biasedly based on their economic status, their race, or any other defining characteristic. Some parents feel that if their child is doing poorly it's the teachers' fault, when in fact it's their own fault for failing to help their child. The teachers grade on performance and try to help those that are falling behind but unlike public schools, the entire class doesn't get held up by the few, it's the parents' responsibility as well as the teachers to help their student keep up and do well. read more

Online has been a challenge but definitely thanks to the great teachers at this school it has been a total success. History and Science have open my kid's eyes in so many ways. This school has an accelerated curriculum. Each grade does 1 grade ahead in math (Saxton math?). This is a very conservatively dressed and patriotic school. I am very happy with my child going here and hope they will be doing high school by the time he gets there. The Principal and Dean are very open to ideas and hearing parents. Any discipline issues are handled efficiently. Staff is very nice and teachers have been great with communication and help with students. I have had no issues with staff, and volunteer very often. I am looking forward to my child growing and blossoming at the school! read more

OMG after reading the reviews of the other women I could not wonder what provoked those comments having said that I have taken the time to address just HOW WONDERFUL THIS SCHOOL IS!!!! Let me first start out by saying Nevada has been listed as the worst schooling system in the United States. We are at the .bottom of the list, last place. This school has brought to my grandchild the willingness and desire to want to go to school. What school out here teaches cursive or anywhere in the states?? ALA does. This school offers so many programs. Among the many wonderful opportunities your child might have this school offers sports, music, singing dance and STEM programs at best out here? My granddaughter is in the 4th grade and her teacher is one of the most gifted, passionate wanting to teach teachers I have met in a very long time. The whole 4th grade team of teachers is wonderfully gifted and love their jobs or they have fooled me. This school has brought back the old wonderful I CARE attitudes that Las Vegas and other states lack. The Christiansens had a dream and their dream was decided upon by building this school and bringing back the willingness and desire to teach moral issues again. We are staying in Las Vegas because of this school and the educational benefits this school has provided for m granddaughter. She cant wait to go to school. Yes they did start out with adding, subtracting in the 4th grade -- called review and if anyone has been in this public school system out here they know these scores all so well that showed we as a state were failing our children. The staff is all willing to help, and very kind, they want no child left behind and are willing to tutor children that might be struggling. I can go on and on about the gifts that this school has brought to my granddaughter. The self confidence, motivation and willingness to strive. I feel so very blessed that my granddaughter has been accepted into this charter school and I thank you so much for bringing morality, meaning, self worth, and caring back into the school system and allowing my granddaughter the opportunity to grow with confidence. Thank you all at ALA for the blessing you have given us. The hope and the dream come true that somebody cares about the education of our children today and the willingness to push forward with all our dreams of excellence in the school system. P.S. As for the women with the negative comments made -- not one of you mentioned the EXCELLENT EDUCATION. I am so happy that my daughter goes to this school and so does her amazing friends and her teacher is wonderful. Her other choice of school is CCSD down the street and her friend still goes there and she wishes she goes to ALA. Our family is thankful that ALA opened here in NLV. I agree with their moral code and how they teach the children Leadership Classes. There are some issues with the school but most of them is because some parents do not care what their children do and are not involved in their lives. I have already submitted a review for this school but I feel compelled to write another one to make sure parents do not enroll their children at Freedom Classical Academy. It is sad that the school leadership does not have your child's best interest at heart. In fact the Director has a bias opinion when it comes to my son's teacher as that is his wife. He does not respond in a timely manner, in fact I tried to set up a meeting with him for over six months last year to discuss my daughter and he never followed through. Mrs. Christensen is the worst teacher and does not communication with the parents. Ultimately it is my son's responsibility to do work but a teacher who calls my child a habitual liar and tells me that he is the only one out of 60 students that has missing assignments is preposterous. I have written to the Board of Directors of the school with hope that they will respond, however if they are anything like the leadership they picked to run the school I highly doubt I will get a response. It's really unfortunate because I now will have to move my son for his final year of middle school to another school due to this horrible school!!! read more

My grandson has been at the school since it opened and it's been a horrible experience. He is a 3rd grade student and was attacked by a 8th grader last week . The office never notified us of the incident and had knowledge of my grandsons head being banged against the wall . The entire incident has been ignored by the staff including Mr. Christiansen.Whats even more ridicules is the 8th graders grandmother works at the school . ALA refused to hold a meeting with the 8th graders parents or to let us know what action was taken to address the assault . The question i keep asking is why would 8th graders and 3rd graders have any interaction at all . This kids bullied my grandson and nothing's happened . We have withdrawn my grandson from the school and I wouldn't recommend this school to anyone who cares about their children . Like most parents, I strive daily to provide my son with the best education/ life style. Unfortunately, my optimism to send my son to ALA turned into absolute horror. On 9-13-17 at approx. 1:30 pm, I received a call from the school nurse at ALA stating that my son had an accident resulting in a large swelling on his face but he was okay to go back to class. Medical attention was not recommended. It was his father who saw the urgency and took him to quick care after picking him up frm school at the end of the school day. I also took him for a second opinion the next day. Due to being questioned by ER staff, I requested an incident report frm school on 9-18- 17. The school never created one; the nurse threw one together simply because I requested one. Once reviewed, I noticed incorrect info noted and requested an accurate revised version. A revised report was sent to me 9-20-17, yet even the 2nd report is questionable. Per my son, the P.E instructor said to him "That's what you get" Right after he hit the bleachers. I had a phone conference with Principal/ Executive Director Mr. Christensen regarding the incident and the P.E instructor's remark. Mr. Christensen can off as being seemingly unbothered but stated that he would speak w/ P.E. instructor. After the incident, per the school staff, my son had now become problematic as I received numerous behavioral reports occurring ONLY after his school injury (Check school records/dates). On 10-23-17 I left work early to sit in on my son's class to observe his behavior. I was shocked to find out that his Teacher, Mr. Achuff, had no control of his class as children were out of their seats, desks were scattered around, and etc. I had my son moved to another class. Approx. two weeks later, The teacher was gone. My son had two additional teachers, as teachers seem to be replaced often. On 12-6 17, while my son was at champion's after school program held on school property, my son's SAME eye was injured a 2nd time. The final straw occurred on 1- 19- 2018. I received a call frm North Las Vegas Police Department. My supervisor texted me stating that the NLV police Department would be contacting me from a blocked number.The blocked call came in, the officer questioned if I had abused my son. Confused, I quickly responded with No. Per the officer my son had been unclothed and checked for signs of abuse by CPS, no signs of abuse were found and the case would be closed. I left work and went to ALA . Per staff, my son stated that he had been abused and had bruises on his body. They also stated the condition of his eye was questionable as it looked as if he had been injured again. I asked the school staff, what about my 7 year old son's exterior or demeanor screamed abuse? He is always well groomed, cared for and most importantly LOVED. Per my son, he and two other African American students were pulled to the side and questioned on how they were punished at home. I don't understand why he was questioned initially as the only sign of abuse was the darkness under his eye, a blemish leftover from the two eye injuries that occurred on school property. I had to present proof of the incident report and pictures to refresh the schools staff's memory that it was them whom neglected my poor child and sent him back to class with an potentially life threatening injury. After I tearfully expressed my disappointment and displeasure with the treatment my son and I had received, I was told to leave the school and the Principal/ Executive Director stated that he should call the police back to the school because I was speaking loudly. In my opinion I was speaking with passion and pain in my voice and you could see it in my eyes. I spoke with two other parents, they too have had issues with ALA. One parent has actually removed her son from ALA recently. I reached out to the school board to file a formal complaint but my concerns were forwarded right back to Mr. Christensen. Parents, please think twice before sending your precious children to ALA. read more
