Was a little nervous when I sat down and saw the rating was absolutely nerfed. But a closer read showed it was mostly complaining about the new remodel, and slower service and I was not in a rush today. I haven't been to Fred's in this area in about 20 years and I don't remember what it used to be like. I agree, the atmosphere felt like a Pizza Hut Express and not somewhere you'd wanna linger for a couple hours. But hey, it's also about the food and the service, right? And the pizza was great as always, and the server was sweet and helpful. Maybe the next time I'm craving a roadtrip to Fred's I head over to the Waverly location which has a homier and more welcoming setting. I grew up on Fred's pizza in the 90s. Birthday parties, milestone celebrations, family gatherings; if someone was celebrating we went to Fred's. While visiting from out of town for the holidays, we found our way back to Fred's to listen to Nick Carr serenade us with live music. Pulling into the parking lot I noticed the change. Inside the bar area remains unchanged but the new open space is modern and welcoming. My child was amazed by all the arcade games lining the walls. We were seated right away and ordered some old favorites; cheese fries and pepperoni pizza. The food was amazing. Just as good as I remembered if not better. Our server, Misty, made our experience even better by being so kind to our overly tired youngster. It was such a nice experience and stroll down memory lane. Fred's pizza has been a staple for generations, but this is not Fred's pizza anymore. The pizza and food quality is similar to that of the prior ownership but timing of service and appetizer to meal is very off. More impressive, the ambience and charm of locality is gone, replaced by a banal air space style that makes this look like a forgettable chain. What was before a cozy, private, and amazing airy space is now cluttered, claustrophobic, and dark space like a cheap BW5. Worse, the dining area is now full of arcade games. Fred's Pizza has been a staple in Wheelersburg since I was young. I've eaten at Fred's on numerous occasions and tried several different menu items. On this visit I ordered the baked spaghetti. It was the Friday before Christmas so the place was crawling with hungry people. The baked spaghetti was delicious with just the right amount of cheese baked on top. It included green peppers which gave it a nice flavor. I was disappointed as my salad didn't arrive until I was halfway finished with my spaghetti. I asked for a to-go container for the salad. Another disappointment was the onion rings were served cold. Apparently they were so busy someone forgot to bring them to the table until we asked. Our server was friendly and kept our drinks full but I wish he would have checked on our orders so the two items didn't come out late. We stopped to try Fred's on our way back to South Point from Columbus. I've always heard it was good so we wanted to try it. We ordered a thin crust monster with no green olives, and a half order of onion rings. The onion rings weren't my favorite (they were very bland) but the half order was a really good size. Just a few of many complaints When we arrived we were interested in the two 4/$25 special. Which was four different pastas, salad and an appetizer . Once we ordered our food the server came back to inform us that several different things they didn't have. So we opted to take spaghetti noodles instead of Alfredo noodles. When they brought out the chicken Alfredo in the bottom of the dishes was a huge amount of pooling water. My mother, my brother, my daughter and me went there to eat for her 4 year old birthday. I was very polite to the server and kind of felt bad for the way my mom acted. However, the food was very greasy. We ordered a loaded fry for an appetizer and the fries was about the size of a McDonalds medium fry for four people, super greasy. I had washed my hands and my daughters in the bathroom before eating and my hands reflected the yellow light. I had a beef steak sub, the meat tasted funny but I literally said fuck it and ate it anyways cause I was hungry. Big mistake after eating that I ended up getting heartburn from the grease so much that I was like "Man I feel like I'm pregnant again and have heartburn, this must be really greasy." They brought out my order first, then my daughters, then my little brothers. My daughters pizza was so hot she spit it back out and only ate one slice still complaining that she's hungry after only eating one slice. My little brother ate half of his calzone, he's a big person so I know he can eat. My mom was waiting for 15 MINUTES before they even brought out a pizza and it wasn't even the kind she wanted. She ordered a meat lovers pizza they brought her a cheese. This thing had enough grease to fill two fully unfolded back to back restaurant paper napkins. When my daughter asked for a slice of that pizza thinking it was going to be a different temperature she again burned her mouth and spit it out from how hot it was. They never brought the Meat Lovers Pizza. I asked for a box 2 times due to wanting to take the appalling food home hopefully to fix it right for my daughter to eat it without her burning herself. Never brought the boxes, then they stated to my mother that they would make the cheese pizza free since it was their mess up. THEY CHARGED US 75 DOLLARS for EVERYTHING including the Pizza my mom never got and the mess up she did get! 7 dollars for my daughters one sprite and tiny pizza on her birthday. The food was so horrible that my back wisdom tooth chipped and I had to suffer the whole car ride home until my mother could go to Dollar General to get Orajel Mouthwash for the pain. My little brother felt sick to his stomach, and my daughter left hungry. They had the gull to say Oh here's a coupon for a free pizza. We're not coming back after that? Short Staffed or not I worked in a pizza place that was short staffed and still provided excellent service and awesome food. Maybe if the food was less greasy and not as scalding to burn my daughter and not mess up our food and drinks we would actually pay the 75 dollars, but no we paid 30. Fred's evidently has great pizza. We didn't learn this until after we ordered sandwiches, salad, and wings. First, don't order the wings. 1/2 pound (for $8+) and the flavor profile leaves much to be desired. The salad was lettuce heavy, but it was a good salad. The Gourmet Steak sandwich with Fred's Red Sauce was outstanding! The baked lasagna was heavy with noodles and cheese, while light on sauce. Overall, the flavor was bland at best. The restaurant is simply not as good as it was under past management. The service was fine but the restaurant was noticeably dirtier from the windows to the tables to the carpeting. The salad wasn't mixed at all and the chicken wasn't cut. gave it another try this past weekend because we use to love Fred's. It took us 25 minutes at the front desk for someone to acknowledge us. (if we hadn't driven 45 minutes to get there we'd left but we were trying one more time) Once we got seated we did not have a waitress for a bit. she finally took our order and we asked for silverware only for her to respond "if i can find some" When she did bring it 2 of the 3 forks still had food on them from the previous diners. Food was not good, fries were burnt and grease soaked. We asked our waitress what happened to the fries and she said they were hiding on me. We asked to speak to a manager and after a while one came out. We asked if that was the way they presented food and they responded "yea, i don't order the fries here unless I cook them myself" The manager did knock off some of our bill for the food we couldn't eat but we will not be back. Oh Fred's, how I miss thee. While you were not the greatest pizza I ever ingested, you were still some of the better pies for southern Ohio. As a college student in Portsmouth, I could agree with your prices, and the quantity of your pizza. There were times I remember driving through snow just to get some of your ooey-gooey, cheesy and pepperoni goodness. Fred's actual restaurant, which is located on the strip in Wheelersburg could be considered a breath of fresh air to a lot of the places that vacate the local area. They have a giant traffic light in the middle of the building, with some sort of water fountain underneath. Booths, and tables line the walls, which extend out into a sun room. This place is extremely accommodating for groups and crowds, and to be honest, I don't know if I've ever been here when it WASN'T busy. The food is good for the area you're in. Especially if you're trying to avoid the dime a dozen chains. There use to be this amazing desert my hubby and I would share, but the name escapes me. One word of advice: AVOID KARAOKE NIGHT. It's bad enough it's loud from the groups of people, imagine having to scream at your dinner mates over a badly sung rendition of Loretta Lynn songs all night. read more

The service at Fred's has really slipped badly. The servers want to know what you want to order before they seat you or offer you a menu. Then they want you to pay for it up front before being seated. Then they give you a number to place on your table and ask you to seat yourselves. Then after being seated, you have to get your own drinks, your own napkins and silverware. My dad ordered a small spaghetti that included with 3 small rectangles of garlic bread (the salad was excluded) and I ordered an appetizer of chips and cheese which ended up being bagged nacho rounds and 2 small soufflé cups of canned nacho cheese sauce plus two fountain drinks. Total $19.00 and change. In food cost, we very likely had less than 5 dollars worth of food. A 400% mark up, plus self service dining isn't worth it. read more

The staff is very friendly and it's very busy, which means the local's like the place. I started off with the fried baked potatoes and they were very good. I then had the sausage pizza and it was terrible. The bottom was very soft and could only be eated with a fork / knife. I'd give it 2*, but restaurants are very limited in this area and I didn't get direahha, so it gets a 3*. Staff was very friendly and prompt. If i had to do it again, i'd get a stromboli. It's a dry town, so don't try to order any alcohol, but not their fault. read more

Usually going into Fred's is a real treat, but today wasn't that. Within this pandemic were told to social distance to protect ourselves and others but today instead of coming in and being seating we was directed into an area were there was hardly any room to distance and basically stand on top of those ordering to get a menu to then seat ourselves not knowing where was okay to sit or which table was ready which was stressful and a Hassel but once we sat we saw waiters and waitresses struggling to find tables the orders belong to because they no longer have their own personal tables but numbers to search for in a sea of confused customers who don't know where to be seated or if that is for sure their order unlike before. It seems it has become a stressful place to work as it is to eat. But through the chaos the waitress and waiter I had done an excellent job and was heart felt individuals. Which is the only reason for my one star But they did not have time to properly assist their tables because all the confusion. My suggestion is to go back to normal, seat every other table that doesn't have dividers but most do allow your workers and customers a more relaxing environment so that everyone isn't scurrying around and on top of each other if I wanted to wait in line I'd went to McDonald's but I wanted to sit and have a family experience and today your establishment failed that. Something's can change but something's are best to stay as is. Im sorry to leave such a poor review on a beloved place with delicious food. Today's experience was unsettling. I am pray for your staff and your establishment. Please take this in consideration or I'm afraid my family may see fred's as a thing in the past. Nothing fancy but good service and good food with friendly atmosphere make this a good choice. I would recommend the pizza (try the BLT or pepperoni pleaser), onion loaf, and Homerun sandwich. It is always busy and is a great place for after the game dining. read more
