Sweet tea and some buffet items
Laur L.

Would come back just for the brownie surprise alone. Freds offers a southern food buffet that puts your fave Golden Corral to shame. The food here is so good came here for dinner and I stg it's like even the rutabagas are like crack (jk jk). Hospitable service, too. It was recommended that I should also pull up to try the breakfast in the future and I know I will lol. I loved their brown gravy poured over their mash as well as the loaded potato soup, mac & cheese, and salmon. Also be sure to try their sweet tea

$23 All You Can Eat Buffet Best bites on my plate: Fried Chicken, Southern Beans, Green beans, Ribs, Honey Biscuits They were all so flavorful! I would get them one hundred times over and be satisfied evey time. On the other hand, the Bleh bits were: Black eyed peas, mash potatoes. I had a lot of hope, but some things are just better at home. Rashaad took care of us and was great! We felt like we were in our cousins dinning room serving up Sunday plates.

Head to Freds for the best southern food buffet around (also the only I know of) that is made fresh. They have a rotating dinner buffet menu for only $23 per person that includes a salad bar and dessert bar for before and after your many entrees. The service was friendly and great, our drinks were never empty and many napkins provided. The ambiance is that of a southern home and also super clean buffet and restrooms. They also provide gloves so you don't get the buffet utensils greasy! All in all loved my experience at Freds!

Nice southern charm in the atmosphere and people. Awesome down home Southern soul food. I will return here.

Stumbled upon this place after seeing a commercial on television never realizing it was there. Southern comfort food disguised as an all you can eat buffet. Nicely laid out and the server was great informing us of the cost and tracking our plates. The buffet has lots to offer but it's a narrow passage full of people eyeing and trying to fill their plates. We only focused on the "hot" entrees so I can't speak of the salad bar or dessert so maybe another trip is in order. It's noisy at times and try to sit away from the buffet area just for some peace of mind.

Went on Saturday evening they were busy but wait wasn't long at all. Lots of Soul food options.

Definitely one of the best all you can buffets I have been to. There was a large variety of southern food and I appreciated the complete salad bar also. The corn casserole was delicious and so was the fried chicken. For the price, it is a great deal for the amount and quality of food you get to eat. I will say that it is always packed so be prepared to wait.

Ribs, fish, collard green, Mac n cheese and hush puppies.

Fred's Market, if you want some southern cooking, go here. It's buffet style, you can get salad or anything from the buffet. The staff will tell you where to get the buffet to go containers. If you decide eat there, usually there is a wait. The music is usually playing and it's very casual there. I got all hot food and a salad. It took about 2 days to eat everything. Go check it out.

Ask the Community - Freds Market

What time does breakfast end?

10:30am

Is there an allergen menu available? I have a soy intolerance.

No. You can ask but it's a buffet.

Is this authentic southern food?

Yes, as far as the Tampa area is concerned it's as authentic as it's gonna get for a restaurant. They have staple southern dishes like collard greens, fried fish and grits, cabbage, northern beans, smothered pork chops, etc. It's very homestyle…

We stopped by for dinner after going to a local pumpkin patch. My husband ordered the queso and chips to start. We both ordered frozen margaritas. I had the fried fish and shrimp platter with baked potato and broccoli cheese casserole on the side. My husband had the chicken fried steak. The kids ordered off the kids menu. My husband also ordered a side salad and also a lemonade in addition to his marg, but he did not receive those. The food was all fine. I do not consider Cheddars a destination restaurant, but if there's one in the area where you want/need to eat, then it's not a bad option. The food came out in a timely fashion, other than the side salad, which never materialized. I don't love the tablets at the tables. The kids do love it (because all kids are addicted to screens), but the fact that the waitress needs the tablet to put in an order and that the bill is paid via the tablet isn't great. We were charged for the items that were ordered but not received, and it took quite a while to get that all dealt with because we the customers cannot adjust the bill but also must wait for the reduced staff to show up to help out.

Alright y'all, here we go with another episode of Just How Food Goes!…read more Listen... your girl was HUNGRY. It was late, I had just gotten off, and instead of going to one of my usual spots, I said, "Let me actually find some FOOD food." You know what I mean--the kind of food where you open that plate and know somebody was back there COOKING. So while Kay was sitting in the car on the phone, I went inside and found Yaya's! We finally made it home, opened everything up, got the camera situated, and BABYYYY... they gave us some FOOD. We had two different kinds of cornbread, potato salad, macaroni salad, yams, chicken wings and plenty more to dig into. Now potato salad is already one of my favorites, so naturally I had to start there. And listen... IT WAS GOOD! Then we started working our way through everything else. The macaroni salad? GOOD. The yams? GOOD. And those CHICKEN WINGS?! 10/10, HANDS DOWN. Those wings weren't even up for debate. And y'all know Kay and I are going to give two completely different opinions sometimes. My overall food rating: 9/10. Kay's overall food rating: 10/10. But where we BOTH agreed was the VALUE. For basically what I've spent on ONE plate at some other soul food spots, we walked away from Yaya's with a LOT of food. So price-wise? 10/10! That matters! I don't mind spending money on good food, but when I can get good food AND feel like I actually got my money's worth? Now you have my attention. And the best part is... WE'RE NOT DONE! Next time I already know what I want to try: fried okra, fried fish AND those oxtails! Yaya's, this first round was SOLID. You got a 9/10 from me, a 10/10 from Kay, and we will absolutely be back to see what else that kitchen can do. Until next time, y'all! That's Just How Life Goes... and of course, Just How Food Goes! nice ambiance.

The food was okay overall. I visited on a Sunday and ordered the meatloaf with gravy, upgraded for…read more$1.50 from rice to the homemade mashed potatoes, and also tried the macaroni and cheese, sweet potatoes, and red beans. The meatloaf was well-seasoned, and I enjoyed it with the gravy. The mashed potatoes had a nice homemade texture, but the garlic was overpowering. The red beans were also too garlicky for my taste. I hope they consider using less garlic in both dishes. I had a small to-go portion of red beans and requested only a teaspoon of rice. The lady at the front said I would normally have to pay for it and then told me, "You know you already have rice in your container, right?" Her response came across as rude--especially because she had overlooked the fact that I paid $1.50 to upgrade from rice to mashed potatoes. Since the mashed potatoes replaced the rice, there was no rice in my container. The cook then came out, clarified that I had upgraded, and gave me a little bit of rice. It was enough and exactly what I had requested. The sweet potatoes could use more butter and sugar. They weren't very sweet and tasted a little too "potatoey." The macaroni and cheese isn't baked, but I liked it. Its creamy style reminded me of Louisiana-style preparations. The punch is very sweet, but I actually like that because you can add water and turn one serving into two cups! The lady at the front forgot to put my lemon pound cake in the bag, so thank God I checked before leaving. Despite some previous comments suggesting otherwise, the lemon pound cake is definitely homemade and tastes like a homemade pound cake. It was good--nothing to write home about--but it had a genuine homemade taste and was topped with confectioners' sugar. The cook mentioned that red beans and rice may become a regular menu item and that they may also offer a sweet red sauce option for the meatloaf. Those would be nice additions. The lady at the front also said they plan to move to a larger location in the future. The current location is small, but it is nice, neat, and clean, with a pleasant sitting area where customers can wait for their food. The food comes out piping hot, which adds to the homemade feeling--as though it came straight out of the pots in someone's home kitchen. Despite the issues, I would rather eat here than go for Chinese food. I'm sharing this feedback to encourage improvement, not to degrade the restaurant. There are some good flavors here, and with a few adjustments--and closer attention when packing orders--the experience could be much better.

Now this is where everything gets smaller and charges for condiments are a thing, no uniformity on what things look like as far as biscuits or if you have to ask for jelly abs get 1 packet. Taste has also declined in the years, so with a smaller limited menu there isn't a lot that ales this spot unique anymore aside from tg retail area. Lots of "corporate" changes from removing the vintage finds from their walls, to a smaller limited menu with no changes or substitutions.
