This FredMeyer was a regular stop for me during my weeklong trip to Soldotna, Alaska. It was near the facility that I was staying at. I came here to buy groceries earlier in the week and made regular stops for coffee at the Starbucks inside of here. FredMeyer also sells supplies. I was able to pick up some fishing boxes to ship the fish that I caught home. FredMeyer stores operate in northwestern United States. This location in Soldotna is open everyday 6 AM - 11 PM. We thought gas would be cheapest in Soldotna on the way down from Anchorage to Homer, so we stopped here. It was ok, wasn't the cheapest. Coopers Landing and Sterling were actually cheaper than here. And the gas station was so overcrowded with cars, if you have a big RV it feels tight. And worse, the middle part of the middle lane of the station is cluttered with vending machines or snacks etc, NOT gas pumps. So, what a waste of a gas lane on Both Sides. In general the price here was similar to all the other places in town, and with these extra annoyances it's just not a good place to refill your RV or your rig. read more

Multiple occasions our family has tried to purchase fine jewelry from them and we've been screwed over. Two days after purchasing one $300+ necklace it broke and they wouldn't exchange the product for the exact same necklace. They said we broke it and they can't do anything about. On top of the insane price hikes, the redesign of the store is god awful everything is mixed together where it doesn't make sense, the workers look souless and when I approached a manager of the store asking who I can talk to about this I was told straight up that my opinion as a customer doesn't matter and to top it all off there is a horrid rotten meat smell. I would put zero if I could, the bathroom design needs to be changed if someone in the auto carts / handicapped carts needs to use the restroom it's basically impossible unless they have the help of an able bodied person. I have no legs and used the restroom, well luckily I was able to with the help of my mom who moved the end of the chair for me. Whoever designed this did not have people with handicap needs in mind AT ALL. First off you open the door, which you need help with because it is heavy and hard to reach the door on the wheelchair cart, then when you go in that door you have to make a sharp turn right to not run into a wall, then immediately a sharp turn the opposite direction to not run into the sink, basically a zig zag way too narrow for the wheelchair carts THEY OFFER. Next issue is the handicap stall itself. The door has to be pulled open instead of pushed so it's very hard to open in the cart chair unless sone opens it for you. If the changing table is down it's possible to smack it when trying to enter the handicap stall. Also exiting the stall and the whole bathroom again is a whole other ball court. A redesign would be great with the wellbeing of everyone in mind. read more

Regularly out of basic items. Sale items are hardly in stock. What is in stock is often expired! I have to check the dates in absolutely everything. After accidentally bringing home refrigerated salsa that was a MONTH expired I'm concerned on how well they rotate stock and handle inventory in the back. Every grocery trip I'm finding expired food. Talk about gross. If the employees in the Starbucks kiosk has to (and does) maintain proper rotation of food/drink items then there's no reason why the rest of the store can't do the same!! read more

This review pertains to the bakery. I ordered a custom cake, on-line, on Wednesday. As per instructed, I gave two days lead time. The cake was to be ready for pick-up the following Friday at 5:30 PM. I received an instant confirmation immediately by email. Then I received an emailed receipt. Both had the Order Number. Since my husband could pick up the cake earlier today, Friday, I called the bakery at noon asking if the cake was ready. I was informed that there was no record of my order. I was asked for my phone number so they could call back. Fifteen minutes later, the bakery manager called to say that the order had not been done, and she did not have a cake decorator in that day. I asked why it had not been done. The manager told me that the order had been "missed", and the decorator was out on Medical Leave. I would think that, at the very least, I should have received an email. A note on the website would have been helpful. The bakery manager apologized and offered a ready made chocolate cake, but there would be no writing. I left a message for the store manager, including my name and number. Initially I was steered to the bakery manager, but the store manager should be notified of this situation. It is now 1:00 PM, and 15 people will be at my house at 6:00 PM tonight for a birthday party. I have no cake. Thank you. read more

So first off, I don't really think this Fred Meyers deserves 5 stars. I'm only giving it a 5 star review as it currently only has 3 stars but is definitely worth 4. Steering away from the old-Soldotna theme, this Fred Meyer has recently been remodeled and is much nicer than it used to be. It seems to be in line with the pattern of new businesses coming to the area or existing ones being remodeled - bringing with it a sense of a new-Soldotna. Fred Meyer is essentially a Walmart Supercenter as it has everything you could need - everything from groceries to clothes to electronics. For those fishing in the summer, this place also has everything you could need. With this remodeling, Soldotna finally has a modern superstore. Hopefully the pattern continues! read more

We just moved to Soldotna two weeks ago and have been to this Freddy's many times already to purchase major household items (a couch and chair, kitchenware, etc.) as well as groceries. It is THE BUSY SEASON on the Kenai Peninsula, and the store is always packed! Nevertheless, the store is clean, well-stocked, and well-organized. Special shout-out to the Customer Service personnel who saw us trying out couches and provided information and support that sealed the deal then and there; also to the produce department gal who heard me mention asparagus to my husband and pointed it out (we'd just passed it); and to the super helpful teenaged (?) checkout clerk who helped me scan coupons for additional savings. It's not easy to deal with a barrage of tourists all day every day, and this store and its personable and helpful personnel have made our move to Soldotna efficient and enjoyable. I'm glad it's my new hometown store! read more

The workers here are very fun and kind. The other day a worker in the baker department went in the back and pulled out a chocolate pudding cake for me that was not on the floor nor was it thawed or labeled. Because I drove from Kenai just for the cake. Today I came in (again) for cake. Haha. And as I was checking out I was greeted by happy cashiers with a big smile and one was even dancing a little dance. It's moments like that seeing employees enjoying their job and doing a good job at their job that make me want to come back. read more

Very crowded. This is obviously the hot spot for locals and tourists alike. Killer variety in food items. In fact, I'm vegetarian from the Tri-state, NY area and they have some things you can only find in a Whole Foods around me at this store. 5 stars for having one-stop shopping in Soldotna. 1 star for the deli. It's actually made it's way into my lexicon: having a "fred-meyer deli" experience is the epitome of all frustrations of dealing with ineptness. I wanted a breakfast sandwich. They had at the counter: bread, cheese, scrambled egg, bacon. It goes like this: Me: I would like a breakfast sandwich. Person-at-counter: Oh, we don't do those. Only breakfast platters. Me: Yes, but you have everything to make a sandwich. PAC: Yes, but we don't do sandwiches and I'm not allowed to make them. Me: Uh, it's a deli; you're telling me you can't make a sandwich? (silence) Me: Ok, can you give me a 'platter' togo box with those ingredients I just pointed out? PAC: So you wanted eggs? Me: Yes, and bread and cheese, and bacon.... 20 MINUTES LATER Me: You didn't get the bread. PAC: Well I'll have to charge extra for that. Needless to say, I'm not a fan of Fred Meyer deli. Fredmeyers, sure it has everything. The electronic staff is great.... But that's about it. The Deli staff acts like brainless zombies most of the time. If I am trying to find something in the store I ask an employee: Do you know where the _______ is?? And the two employees who were just sitting around reply: No. So instead of referring me to someone who could help! I had to trek my way through the store to find someone that would help me. Need a pack of pc printer paper at 7:00 am to get an urgent job done? Fred Meyer has it! They're open every day at 7:00 am. I've been a frequent shopper here during the past 6 months; nice having a combined grocery supermarket, department store, and gas station at one location in Soldotna. Yeah, we've got a WalMart SuperCenter in nearby Kenai; but that's 10-miles away. There have been a few items that I couldn't buy here (like Pledge, Brasso, and ice-melt), but there is a darned good hardware store in town that has these items. I often buy groceries at this Fred Meyers. Don't hesitate to ask a worker to help you get meats if the case is empty. I was told during a recent holiday weekend that rib roasts, or specialty cuts of meat are not packaged and put out because they're not sold very fast - you've gotta ask for a butcher to help. The check-out lines can be pretty long, or slow, at the supermarket end of the store; folks load-up big shopping carts, and, frequently, the "express check-out lanes" have customers with a huge cart of groceries and goods - "express" is ignored and not enforced. Okay, the only reason it gets two stars is because I shop here at least twice a week. Why so many times if it only gets two stars? Well, it is one of two stores in this town. Yup, it is basically the company in this company town and it is the company store for all the people who work there and live here. If it didn't have a pretty rockin' (for Alaska standards) organic and natural food section, I would shop at Safeway more often. You end up at this gigantic store, wandering around in the offensive light, for at least an hour almost every time you go there. Even if you only planned on running in to get milk. The marketing people must be genius, not because of the smart layout, no because you suddenly have a cart full of crap you didn't know you needed. Every time I go in there I am let down by the service, save a few employees who have been there practically since it opened. I am let down by the availability of product and/or the condition the product is in. On the upside, you spend $100 in there and you get 10 cents a gallon off your next fuel purchase. read more

This Fred Meyer store in Ak. is horrible. If there is another place to shop I would go there. I shop here about once a week because there isn't another choice of store. They are frequently out of stock on basic items. Sunday eve. the store is absolutely trashed and a mess. They say they don't have enough help to stock and tidy up. I have talked to management about shelves being emptied, several times, they blame it on corporate and nothing changes. The stores in Anchorage are not like this, but this Soldotna store is. Several times I have waited 15-20 min. at Starbucks because they put a newbie to wait on people without another experienced person. Several customers got fed up and left. I normally would not write a review for a grocery store. However, this was one amazing place. We live in SoCal and the same chain owns Ralph's and I cannot understand why Ralph's is so awful compared to Fred Meyers? This store was loaded with good groceries at good prices, it had a deli, and the usual bakery section, along with a Starbucks. It also sells clothes, household items, and much more. The sporting goods section had every type of fishing gear you could imagine. More than our local Sports Authority. They also had a great selection of firearms including rifles and pistols. I know California would not go for this, but it was awesome. All of the brand names in the store were quality. The clothing was Nike, Columbia, Carhardt, Levis, etc. The guns were Smith and Wesson, Colt, Ruger, Taurus, etc. They had Penn, and all of the other fishing gear including high end stuff too. The grocery section was big, neat and clean. The service was amazing. It was small town, everyone knew each other and this store is something they took pride in. Their prices were good in Alaska, even by Southern California standards. It was a pleasant surprise, and they were friendly to us obvious tourists. read more
