Hans Prosser is the amazing host, chef, and friend to all. The house is on the National registry and was once an Underground Railroad stop. There are still trap doors in the home! The house is gorgeous and was meticulously restored by Hans' family after they purchased it in the 1980s. Every room tells a story. Every nook and cranny has a little piece of art or history. The outside patio overlooks a small lake, and you can hear the bullfrogs singing in the evening. We spent hours just chatting with Hans during our stay. He is so kind and know the history of the house and surrounding area. We stayed at Rising Hall over a DePauw reunion weekend. The house is less than 15 minutes away from campus, and the drive over is picturesque. We stayed in the room on the bottom floor, and our bed was so comfortable! We had a lovely sitting room next to our room and enjoyed some wine and relaxation before heading to bed. The upstairs Master Suite is stunning and would make for a very romantic getaway for a couple visiting their kids at the school. It's very private and has its own balcony. Hans truly is a chef--his French Toast breakfast is legendary and definitely the best I've ever had. He paired it with perfectly crispy bacon, fresh fruit, and delicious coffee. So even if we agreed to a price, there would be an additional late booking fee of $50, despite the fact that it was their fault that I hadn't signed the contract yet.
