Since purchasing our home nine years ago, my wife and I have been blessed to be in a position to…read moremake upgrades. Our home is 32 years old; therefore, we are often watching home renovation shows to obtain ideas on how we can modernize things. One repair that we needed to make was to fix two window screens that had holes and needed to be rescreened. Considering that one of the screens was for a large window in our bedroom, we figured this would be a great way to finally be able to open our window and let fresh air into our room. The other items on our list were focused on upgrading lighting in a few areas in our home. After doing some research on handymen in Elk Grove, JL Handyservices with it's perfect reviews populated at the top of my Yelp search results. I immediately called Jason Le (owner) and scheduled an appointment for him to visit my home and provide me with a quote. A few days later Jason promptly arrived to do an inspection, shortly after the inspection he sent me a text with the quote. For the installation of two recessed lighting cans - one in a bathroom and another in a walk-in closet- , a motion sensitive lightbar in the garage, and two window screen replacements came to a total just over $600. The day of the appointment Jason arrived on time and ready to take care of the tasks. After asking a few questions pertaining to the temperature (brightness) of the recessed lighting, he began the installation process. Since my wife and I were working from home, he was very considerate in communicating that he would need to briefly turn off our power. Although this was a slight inconvenience, it was very short lived due to Jason's efficiency. Roughly three hours later, Jason was summoning me to check out the final product(s). Installation was very neat and Jason did a great job of cleaning any trash that was left behind. As my wife and I continue to identify areas of our home that need to be upgraded, I will be reaching out to Jason for future services. If you're looking for a professional, knowledgeable, and communicative handyman that's efficient as your nearby In-N-Out Burger...I highly recommend reaching out to Jason!

It ended up being a significantly larger issue than we thought it was -- we had a substantial leak (from a broken pipe) that had been soaking the floor underneath the bathroom tiles for quite a long time. Zav guided us through the whole repair, from start to finish. He managed the demolition (it was a lot!), the subfloor restoration, the tile work, and then put it all back together. He also coordinated with a wonderful mold remediation company (shoutout to A&S Water Restoration!), which greatly reduced our stress during the whole process. Zav is punctual, communicates regularly, and truly cares about his work. He's incredibly neat and intentional. He's our handyman for life! (Note: In the photos, the slightly mismatched tiles were our choice...we didn't have enough of the original tiles and wanted to save money by not pulling up the whole floor. He honored our wishes.)

I wish I had paid closer attention to the one-star reviews about Zach before hiring him for a…read moresimple bathroom flooring project. What should have been a straightforward job turned into a frustrating mess due to his incompetence and unprofessionalism. First, he ordered far more flooring material than necessary, showing poor planning from the start. Then, due to his lack of skill in cutting and fitting, he wasted a significant amount of that excess material. To make matters worse, he didn't even bother removing the old flooring--he just laid the new one directly on top. This raised the floor height unnecessarily, and instead of correcting the issue, he trimmed the bathroom door to make it fit. His work on the baseboards was equally sloppy. He clearly lacks the basic ability to measure and cut accurately, and he even managed to damage my drywall in the process. When I saw the poor quality of the job, I refused to pay until he corrected everything--which, thankfully, I insisted on before handing over any money. If you've already hired him, do not pay until all work is completed to your satisfaction. And if you haven't yet--do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. I would never hire Zach again.
