This is one big box store, too big. I liked it better before it got so large, they expanded before the Walmart opened up.

Yup. It's a Freddie's. You seen one you've seen 'em all. They remodeled it a few years ago.

Michael went out of his way, above and beyond what we would expect and not only located a meter, but delivered to our house after his work day was over.

The staff were very friendly and twice staff members struck up a conversations with us out of the blue - a nice touch.

With a smile I place the beer on the counter. The woman behind the counter, a short overweight lady I would guess to be in her early to mid-30's just scowls at me, before asking for my ID (it's been a long time since I was carded at all). With a smile I hand her my Canadian Permanent Resident card, issued by the federal government of Canada, whose border is about 30 miles away from where I was standing. She inspects it quizzically before handing it back to me saying "it needs to have an expiration date." Confused, I take the ID back to inspect it, and again cheerfully, I point her to the bottom of the card with the expiration date, and my birthdate directly above it. She again looks it over like she can't really read, hems and haws and acts like maaaybe she is going to ring the order up, but maybe not. Here's where I made a mistake apparently- I jokingly said "my 21st birthday is over 27 years old, what exactly is the issue?" and shrugged, she immediately shoves the ID back at me and says "I'm not going to serve you." Shocked, I ask to speak to the manager, but I notice there is a customer behind me so I ask her to please take care of him first since she had been wasting our time for a couple minutes now. She ignores that and leaves him waiting while she gets the manager. I'm expecting the manager would have half a brain and some sense of customer service unlike the clerk, but the also 30-something manager young enough to be my daughter looks at the ID and says "we're not going to serve you." I should have asked whether she thinks I'm under 21 years of age (preposterous) or that my federally issued Canadian ID is fake (ridiculous), instead I just left empty-handed as she said "we do things differently in Alaska." Yeah, apparently you do.

The ingredients all taste good and fresh. I end up getting it all- eggs, cheese, potatoes, bacon, jasmine rice, black beans, lettuce, pico de gallo, all the good stuff. They even have fancy eggs and fancy potatoes (made with peppers). Everything is prepared next to the register behind glass, so you can watch them prepare it. I love coming here or the valley Breeze-In for their soups as well. The chicken tortilla is my favorite by far. The donuts are pretty good too, and I hear so are the bagels. There is also a frozen coffee machine with different syrup flavors, it tastes like a Frappuccino and it is not overly sweet like I assumed it would be. I also tried the breakfast crunch wrap but personally I wasn't a big fan. It was okay, but the ingredients were clumped in one spot and the nacho cheese made it sticky, texture-wise. I definitely prefer the burrito. I come here with my coworker about once a week, and the staff is nice and generally patient with everyone. One time we asked what the lunch special was and it was halibut tacos that were absolutely delicious. But they only do lunch in the late morning-afternoon. They stop breakfast around 10:30AMish. I have tried the California steak burrito for lunch, but was not a fan. The steak was dry and tough. If you go, stick to the breakfast!

Tucked away amongst the trees, this place felt like it was a true representation of an Alaskan convenience store. The dudes working in there had huge beards and were burly, they looked exactly like what you'd think Alaskan mountain men would look like, which was pretty cool. They were friendly but a little intimidating! The inside of this store is old and rundown, with inventory boxes lying about and stuff crammed everywhere! Flyers about local events, fundraisers, and hunting and fishing restrictions were plastered all over the front windows. The prices, as you'd expect due to the remote location, are very high. I can't remember what I paid for a soda, but it was a lot. It was cold and didn't have an expired "use by" date, so I consider that a win. The place felt a little sketchy, and I would avoid it at nighttime or maybe if you are a female traveling alone. I didn't feel unsafe, but it made me a little uneasy shopping here based on the clientele hanging around outside. I know that sounds snobby, but I'm just trying to be honest. Duck Creek Market isn't fancy, but it's sort of a place I'd recommend if you want to soak up some truly local culture. Stopping is is an adventure in itself!
