Last June, we began taking lessons with Chad prior to our wedding. I wasn't really sure what to expect..I was a previous competitive dancer in jazz, ballet, lyrical, etc., but had never really touched ballroom aside from a bit of swing dance in college. We did 6 lessons prior to our wedding and learned some of the basics of rumba and swing. After the wedding, we decided we wanted to continue and have been ever since. When you start out, you get a little bit of an intro to each of the dances and then narrow it down to your four favorites to move forward with. We chose rumba, tango, cha cha, and swing. Most do weekly lessons and then there are practice parties weekly to every other week where you can dance with other students in a social setting. After some time passes, you get to know a lot of the other students. The community is incredibly supportive and welcoming. Not long after beginning our post-wedding curriculum, we even performed a choreographed piece for the studio's showcase, which was incredibly fun. Amazing studio! Chad and Joanna are amazing instructors. They make me feel like I can do anything (even dance). I've had so much fun learning on my own for a few years now. My boyfriend saw how much fun I was having and asked if he could join in. We have a wonderful time spending quality time with quality people, who I now like to call family. This place is the place to be! It doesn't matter if you want to learn to dance socially or you are preparing for a wedding reception, or looking to compete. They also bring in coaches as an option, my favorite was just in town helping me with some choreography I'd like to perform in the 2016 showcase... When we got married half a lifetime ago, we decided to take dancing lessons for the reception. And we rocked it. A few months ago, Linda found a Groupon for the same studio (Fred Astaire in Eagan), so she signed us up, and we've been going every week since. And we're still rocking it. Chad and Beth are our instructors and they are good at what they do. Once you get past the beginner stage, you'll pick four dances to focus on. Their theory is that it's as easy to learn 4 dances as it is to learn two, because so many of the steps are similar. We learning the Waltz, Rumba, Swing, and Tango. Just like Gomez and Morticia. Some guys are going to read this and think they can't take dance lessons because it's too girly. All I can say to that is that dancing is foreplay. There ain't nothing un-manly about foreplay. We met a lot of great people here and got a good foundation of dance skills. They have a huge turnover of instructors, which is frustrating, especially when you really like your instructor. While the curriculum is very clear and organized, the studio doesn't do a very good job tracking your progress, and you will likely burn up a lot of lessons at $140 for 40 minutes reviewing material until you lock into a prepaid contract for the next level. And they almost discourage people from dancing in the "real world". Many students are comfortable as long as they are in the bubble of the studio environment, but don't venture out beyond that. Social dancers might do better elsewhere. Oh, and while they guarantee that you can get a refund on unused lessons or can transfer them to another Fred Astaire Studio, don't expect that to be easy or possible. And read the agreement carefully, if you even get one. (Make sure you do). If you have a lot of money to throw around, you will get some decent training here. read more

Joanna, Chad, and Beth did a fantastic job in preparing us for our first dance. The lessons leading up to our wedding were a lot of fun, as we developed a rumba routine and learned swing for the fast songs. These lessons brought us closer together as a couple and made us confident on our wedding day. Thanks to Groupon I was able to get two intro classes at an excellent price. I was very nervous the day I walked in, questioning if indeed this was really for me. I am a 55 year old disabled vet, slightly overweight, already surviving knee replacement surgery. Well, within minutes my instructor made it possible for me to dance successfully, with ease, as if I had been dancing all of my life. Learning to dance turned out to be one of the absolutely most joyful things I have ever done in life, and my wife sees a huge difference in me for the better. It is a wonderful thing to succeed at something entirely new at my age. My instructor, Rosie Muska is absolutely excellent, although I suspect every dance instructor at Fred Astaire functions at an extremely high level of professionalism that includes courtesy and patience. The main dance floor is very large. The entire facility has military grade cleanliness. There is some expense after the into classes ended, however the office manager, who is also a dancer, provided a multi-class package payment plan that I can easily afford with a discount; however I am not sure if they do that for everyone. Dance pro Rosie Muska is a class act in the highest order. The business manager Beth is also a class act. The dance hall and facility itself is of high class. Fred Astaire who did everything in life with excellence would surely be very proud of his outstanding Eagan studio. Tons of fun and joy! read more

My husband and I recently took lessons with Chad to shake the rust off our dance skills before going to a couple weddings this fall. My husband was very reluctant to do this, but wound up really enjoying this experience - and so did I. Chad did a super job - taught us nine different dances. It sounds complicated, but believe me, Chad has a way of breaking everything down and making it simple to learn and remember the steps. read more

Not worth it. I took a few lessons. First of all, not many people visit this studio. Dance instructors are mean and really have no clue what they are doing. I would highly recommend not joining it unless you want to flush your hard earned cash down the toilet. read more
