Great layout, pool tables are out of the way of the bands and there's a nice courtyard! Enjoyed the show, the atmosphere, and I was told that the fried pickles were super. They offered Taco Chili, I didn't see the entire menu but I was very impressed with their 100% rating by the Health Department. Next time I will come hungry and try the Chili! I think this show was a bit of a departure from their average heavy metal offerings here, I saw a Revenants poster !!! But I hope they keep up the variety, cool place! (Oh, and the ladies room was immaculate, with fragrance free soap! yay!!!!!)

We loved the experience. It's like a warehouse space which has been converted into a music venue and avant garde art space. Everywhere you look there is some funky feast for the eyes. I was impressed by their right-in-your-face signage at every entrance affirming their acceptance of marginalized demographics. Each door bears a sign stating that racism, homophobia and the like will not be tolerated in the establishment, leaving no room for doubt. I was so impressed and encouraged by that immediate assurance that this place shares our values. It takes bravery to lead with a stance that will likely drive some business away in order to stand on principles and I admire it. There isn't much seating. There is a nice stage with pro sound and lighting. Most of the area in front of the stage is open floor. Some interesting bench style seating on either side of the space and a few tables and chairs in the back. Drinks are not cheap by any means but competitive with other similar venues in the area. No food is served but they did have a popcorn machine going. Service was fair for a large crowd. You have to have an open mind to attend Portal. They were holding a "furry rave" there directly after the concert and at a point the venue began to fill up with young people dressed in some interesting and elaborate costumes of that variety. So you should be prepared to share space with people in alternative lifestyles. I love that this establishment provides a safe space for people that some don't understand or accept. Portal hosts lots of cool events like yoga classes, writer's nights, art shows etc. We will definitely go back. It's easier for me to show you than explain it so please refer to accompanying photos.

This annual event (with the exception of 2020, when nothing happened) has been running for three years now, and I've been to all of them. I wouldn't miss it! It's held at Headliner's Music Hall, which is an awesome venue, and it's absolutely perfect for this show. This concert runs for approximately four hours, in which time you'll see some amazingly talented bands cover beloved emo songs from artists like Taking Back Sunday, The Used, My Chemical Romance, Paramore, Bayside, and so many others. If you love emo, this is the event for you! Be sure to check it out when it comes back around next year. I'll see you there!

Read the reviews and the wife wanted to sing so we head out to Akikos. What seemed like a normal bar online turned out to be kinda sketchy but this was on a weekday. Overall, we had some fans happy that the wife sung Alicia Keys and we even had this one guy come up from playing pool and enjoy her singing. Went back down after she finished and came back up again to see if I (her husband) was still next to her. Crazy ass! All in all, we had a good time and its not the most spectacular looking bar but the DJ was cool, and the crowd, maybe about 8 total enjoyed the wife's singing. Even shocked her hand and gave her compliments but left me, sitting right next to her, in the dust.

It's always such a great time! There are food trucks, vendors, and live music. Plus, it's right on the water so it's such a great setting! The concerts showcase local and emerging national recording artists, so it really gives attendees a chance to check out new and upcoming music. There are always tons of people there, and there's always a very chill and loving vibe, which is super nice to feel from our city. These events are family friendly, but you'll have to leave your pets and alcohol at home, though there is usually a cash bar. I wish we could bring our puppy to this event, but I understand the restrictions. If you're looking for a really great free and fun event to take in during the summer, WFPK Waterfront Wednesday is one of Louisville's best!

We were in Louisville the last week of July last year, so we went to the concert on Wednesday July 26, 2023. The lineup for that day were artists I hadn't heard of -- Supreme Beings of Leisure, Jameron, and Bettye LaVette, as well as Steven Page of Barenaked Ladies. The Barenaked Ladies are a popular Canadian band that I don't care for, however, it was a free concert, so we went. To my surprise, Craig Northey, lead singer of Odds, a Canadian band that was popular during the 90s, came on stage and along with Steven Page, sang "Someone Who's Cool", one of the Odds' biggest hits. It was surreal being in Louisville, Kentucky of all places, watching Craig Northey and Steven Page perform a popular 90s Canadian song. They put on an amazing show, have performed before at the festival, and Peter is a master entertainer. The bands before were good as well, and, in the past, I saw an excellent Elton John tribute artist. The people-watching is great, and the staff are competent and friendly. We came back again on Sat hoping the weather would be better and would enjoy some great blues and the atmosphere. Music wasn't much to write home about until Danielle Nicole showed up.....she's the real deal and got the crowd going. She was fantastic and the highlight of the weekend! Keesha Pratt Band was loaded with energy and really played to the crowd - they were enjoyable as well. It's not a huge event - so the beer selection and food options are a little slim.
