The main appeal of an annual ticketed event like this one is to allow locals to sample from a…read morevariety of businesses in one evening. I tend to shy away from this sort of thing because they tend to be overwhelming, and having so many vendors makes it hard to leave with a clear impression of any in particular. Also, if you're looking to try a new restaurant, why not just read Yelp reviews? That said, I think Taste of 502 makes a good effort. Events like these can be variable, even from year to year. Will it be crowded? Is the price point reasonable? And will I even get enough to eat? Our experience this year was that it's a lot of fun. We were already familiar with most of the restaurants and shops, so we weren't just running around in a fog. And there was no danger of going home hungry. Even as the (reasonable-sized) crowds dissipated, most of the vendors still had plenty of food. Lines weren't much of a problem, and you can walk around without clutching your plate near your chest. And true to the local spirit, more than half the room was dedicated to sugar, fat, and alcohol. In short, it was at least as much fun as a standard night on the town would be, and a fine way to have a good time, all in the good name of community spirit. I may or may not return for this event, but I certainly will return to many of the eateries it showcases.

The 2016 Taste of 502 Event was fantastic! I had a blast. It's been a while since I've enjoyed…read moremyself so much. There were oodles of different food vendors with lots of things to try! An equal amount of food, drinks and desserts samples were present from what I could see. Wild Rita's had one of the tastiest desserts I tried. Shout out to Rye for their pork samples that were fabulous, and Cake flour for the a-mazing bourbon chocolate fudge brownies. There were pasta dishes, tons of savory treats, appetizers, salads, shrimp kaboobs, cookies, pie, cakes, ice cream, and brownie samples! And of course, a large variety of drink samples from wine to vodka mixes to bourbon. After being stuffed from trying all that food, we stopped to take a picture in the complimentary photo booth. Plenty of seating, easy to socialize, leave and join another table. It was crowded but not uncomfortable and vendors not difficult to access. It was a cool local event and fun getting to try out the treats of different businesses around Louisville. I definitely found 3 or 4 that I'm enthused to go visit. I look forward to attending this event again next year.

Let me tell ya, this is an awesome festival if you're looking to be adventurous with what Butchertown has to offer. They had a ton of tents set up, where you could try a sample for 1 ticket ($2) and beer for 3 tickets ($6). Here's what I tried: - Pork Ramen from Lupo: Probably one of my favorite pork-related samples! It was interesting to get to taste some good pork on a bed of ramen, along with hot sauce. - Black Bean Stew from Red Hog: Very tasty! I'm not a fan of beans, but I still enjoyed the rest of the stew, and loved how there was a lime and some sour cream added. - Maple Glazed Sausage Roll from Red Hot Roasters: They were incredibly generous with a 'sample' being such a large roll!! I had never had a roll with sausage on it, but I loved the sweet/salty combo. - Bon Bons from Cellar Door Chocolates: YES! Probably my favorite sample overall, this was my first time trying Cellar Door and it was soo good. The bon bons included peanut butter and bacon fat! - Meatballs from Bar Vetti: The meatball was incredible! I wasn't a fan of the breading that was underneath it, just because it was a little soggy. But the meat itself was delicious. Along with all of the food, they also had a bar if you were looking to get a cocktail or wine. They had a couple different wines for $5, and 3 cocktails: Old fashioned, Pineapple Daquiri, and Gin & Tonic. I tried the daquiri and loved it. Also, I'm not sure what would interest a vegetarian to go to an event called "Porktoberfest," but every tent that I went to had a meatless option, which I thought was awesome! Live music was involved as well, and at one point in the night a winner was selected for best pork dish! Copper & Kings always succeeds with their events, and Porktoberfest was no exception! This was such a fun time and I would love to come back next year.

I'm always down for a good beer fest, so when the boyfriend suggested this for a Friday evening, I…read morefigured why not?! Well...I dunno. I guess it was ok. Mainly, I hate having to pay just to have *access* to the beer and food. My entry fee didn't include anything. It just allowed me in to a normally free-to-roam-around area in Central Park. So, on top of paying $10 to get in to the fest, you also had to pay for every beer you got. I expected it to be like most other beer festivals, where you get a certain number of small samples. There were no sample sizes here. You bought full beers. So....I hope you like what you are ordering. A couple of the breweries only accepted cash, which left them out of my reach as I had none on me. And there was an overabundance of IPAs. I hate IPAs, and I really had hoped that there would be a greater variety of beer styles to choose from. I was able to get a tap room special Blackberry Sour from West Sixth that made me pretty happy. And I settled for the cider from Old Louisville Brewery for my second. I had originally expected to spend more time at the fest. I got food from one of the trucks because I thought I might have a few more beers. But not much else really caught my eye or piqued my interest. I feel bad that I was disappointed. I didn't prepare well enough to know what to expect. And then I felt let down by the offerings. But I still hate paying just to have access to an area where I have to pay *more* to participate in the event. The music was good, people were cool, and the beer was cold. But I don't know if I will return again. I could have just gone to one of the local breweries, paid less than $10 for a flight of beer samples, had more to choose from and I would have been happier.

It was actually the…read morefirst annual event they hosted, but they're coming back this year and we couldn't be more excited! The event last year was hosted in the parking lot of the Edison Center. They had several craft beer booths set up, a stage with live music, plenty of tables and chairs for attendees, and several food trucks. The beer was great, the music was great, the food was great, and the company was great! So, even though it was fairly small in terms of beer choices, and even though it was held in an open parking lot, we still loved the event. This year the event is set to take place in Central Park, and it appears it will be much larger in regards to the craft beer representation. Which is exciting! I'm happy that more breweries will be in attendance this year. And I'm happy that it will be set up in the parking, as I'm sure that will be a much more comfortable spot to hang out. We'll definitely be back to Old Lou Brew Craft Beer Fest. If you didn't get a chance to check it out last year, get it on your calendar for this year!

I justify the cost in that a) it's a delicious event, and b) it's benefitting good causes. The air hangar is lined with all types of foods and drinks. The biggest drawback is, unless you buy a table, you will be fighting for one of the few cocktail tables or juggling stuff in your hands. Which isn't bad... it's just a little tricky. I try to eat as little as possible on the day of the event, and it is totally best to pace yourself while here. I always hate to waste food, but I believe it's literally impossible to eat everything here! You could easily get drunk at such an event; in which case, plan appropriately! (I focus on the food at this.) The atmosphere is pretty chill but fun--after all, the people here like to eat and drink too!!! I suggest coming early to maximize the experience and to give yourself some breaks between foods as you make your way around the room! Happy tasting!!

The sauce deserves to be bottled and sold everywhere--it's that good. The portions are spot-on for the price, and the quality across the board is unreal. The macaroni and cheese might be the best thing on the menu, with the beans right there behind it--but trying to rank anything feels pointless when everything hits at such a high level. What really sets it apart though is the consistency and care you can taste in every bite. This isn't just good BBQ--it's the kind of place you go out of your way for, the kind you bring people to when you want to show them what real deal BBQ is supposed to taste like. Add in incredibly kind and welcoming management, and it's not even a question--this place is going to be a 5-star staple.

Most likely ordering that smoked turkey for our next Holiday event. :)

You'll need to find parking in the nearby neighborhood and then walk over to the festival. Local vendors and businesses have booths and this year we spotted a few food trucks. A few tables and chairs are provided to sit and eat. One section is geared to younger attendees, offering chalk art and pumpkins to paint. Music is scheduled during both days. This gathering felt small in terms of local vendors to shop and the volume of the music was overwhelming while shopping. The pathways also became crowded due to the streets having booths on both sides of the path. Same for the area in front of the stage which you need to pass through to get to other vendor booths.
