I chose her because…read moreshe presented herself well during our initial phone call and appeared to understand that my businesses were my most significant assets and needed careful handling. After approximately eight months of representation and about $20,000+ in legal fees, she informed me that she would no longer represent me. Looking back, I believe the breakdown was largely caused by a serious communication disconnect that could likely have been resolved through one meaningful conversation. Most communication during my case occurred by email. Although email was convenient for routine matters, I spoke with Brittany by phone only two or three times during the entire eight months. As someone going through a divorce for the first time, I did not understand every possible legal scenario, procedural limitation, or consequence. I had certain expectations about what could be completed in order to finalize the divorce quickly, and those expectations turned out to be incorrect. I was frustrated, but I needed my attorney to explain the process, ask questions about my goals, and help identify where the misunderstanding had occurred. Instead, I felt that the communication breakdown was placed entirely on me. I was sent paperwork ending the representation rather than being given an opportunity to have a genuine conversation and repair the attorney-client relationship. The following day, while representing myself, I contacted my former spouse's attorney directly, and we were able to resolve the remaining issues within approximately two days. One of my deepest regrets is that I gave up the opportunity to pursue spousal support because I believed doing so would help bring the divorce to a faster conclusion. I now understand that my expectations were not aligned with the actual process, but that was precisely why I had retained experienced legal counsel. A client hires a divorce attorney because the attorney understands the courts, filings, legal strategy, and consequences that the client does not. I had previously considered transferring my case to another attorney because of other communication concerns, but I was already emotionally overwhelmed, financially invested, and concerned about paying another lawyer to review eight months of work before taking over. That is an extremely vulnerable position for any client. I cannot speak to Brittany's intentions, but I can speak to my experience: I felt unheard, unsupported, and abandoned during a period when I was relying heavily on professional guidance. She was paid for her work, but I was left to manage the final stage of my case alone. It has taken me 2 years to feel capable of writing this review. Interestingly, it was not the divorce itself that required the most emotional recovery. I chose the divorce and remain grateful that I made that decision. What has stayed with me is the regret of placing my trust, vulnerability, and financial resources with a firm where I ultimately did not feel understood or protected. I would like to add that the firm did not even reach out or try to change attorneys within the firm so this is not just a Brittany Van Veen experience. This is absolutely a HOLSTROM Block and Parke experience. Prospective clients should ask detailed questions about how frequently they will be able to speak directly with their attorney, how disagreements or misunderstandings are handled, and what circumstances could cause the firm to withdraw from representation. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this attorney or firm.

I ended the attorney-client relationship in June 2026 and requested my complete file, final billing, trust account records and information about the release of funds being held. I followed up multiple times and escalated the matter internally to the office manager. As of July 23, 2026, I still have not received a clear response explaining the status of the funds or when they will be released. Approximately $108,000 belonging to me and the other party remains in an account connected to this matter. I have repeatedly asked for a current accounting, the steps required for release and a specific timeline. These are urgent financial questions, yet my emails have gone unanswered. I also found much of the communication from the paralegal staff assigned to my case to be condescending, generally unhelpful and often incomplete. In contrast, when the firm requested payment or additional funds, its follow-up was persistent and relentless. Given the firm's high fees and aggressive approach to billing and collections, I expected the same level of urgency, professionalism and responsiveness when I needed answers. Clients should not have to repeatedly pursue a law firm for basic communication, billing information and access to their own funds after representation has ended. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this firm.

I paid all I could manage financially, since he allowed via the judge to order that I pay my child's full private school tuition. The day he signed off on my case, Chris told me specifically that I could leave, "there's no court today, you're home-free." Which resulted in the judge ordering me to pay the ex back $400.00 a month and up to a total of close beyond $14,000.00 for criminal attorney fees and the crooked, court ordered monitor that my P.I. Caught breaking the rules of supervised visitation and carrying on a relationship. Not only did judge Cheryl Kersey order that I pay the ex back, but Chris nor the office notified me of this court order therefore, I didn't fight it within the allotted 30 day timeframe given and wasn't able to appeal the decision. Chris should've fought harder in court for my child and I. Mr. Carter could've told the judge that we didn't want supervised visitation lifted, but that the judge look at the P.I. Evidence against the NCP (non custodial parent/respondent) and the crooked, court ordered visitation supervisor, but he did not. The money I've been ordered by the court to pay the ex, could've gone to paying Mr. Carter however, I'm now only able to afford a lesser payment than what I had been paying him initially. Mr. Carter's office stopped sending me statements for payments and I had so much going on at that time that I'd forget to make a payment, he ended up suing me for around $7,000 - $8,000, he won by default, because the judgement was made in my absence. I was at work during the hearing. I'm thankful to Chris Carter for the one and only, best thing he ever did for my case, which was to divorce the ex and I.

We knew we would be moving, but our timeline was still a couple months out. Then of course ahead of schedule our dream house in Canyon Lake appeared. Landon got us in immediately. It literally had everything we wanted- and also unique features we knew we would never find again. It literally looked like a castle and we just had to have it for our daughter to grow up in. Unfortunately we had not even listed our current home in Mission Viejo and needed to sell it in order to buy our dream castle. Watching Landon work was truly impressive. First through savvy negotiation, diligence and unfaltering follow up he got the sellers to accept our offer with a short contingency to sell our home quick- despite initially wanting nothing to do with us until our house was sold. Landon had gorgeous professional photos taken of our house, house listed, open house scheduled and tours started immediately. He literally gave us attention 24/7 when we needed it- and I have to admit, we were a bit needy. So much of the process was new to us and he answered every question with timeliness and understanding. It was also so helpful that Landon is also a GC so has tons of additional knowledge to assist his clients in regards to costs of repairs and/or upgrades and referrals. When it was all said and done- Landon sold our house for about $25K over what we though we would be able to get- and got us our dream castle for under the sellers asking price. We've been in our new home for about 3 weeks now and could not be happier. I can honestly say that with all of the different obstacles and time constraints that were involved in making these 2 sales happen and watching how much hard work and consistent follow up Landon performed- if we had had any other realtor I truly don't think we would be where we are now. Thank you so much Landon for everything, from the bottom of our hearts, from our whole family. We will always refer Sage Realty because we know we are referring the industry's best.
