It can be tough to find a handyman/contractor for projects, and even tougher to find one willing to…read moretake on small projects. I was pleased to learn about Marty and HV Handyman from a Yelp review, and even more pleased that the review was written by someone from Yelp I actually know in person. Marty is professional yet casual, a nice combination. He was always quick to get back to me when I contacted him in advance of the work, always in less than 24 hours. When I initially sent him a description of the work and a photo, he got back right away with his estimates of time and materials, and cost. Along the way, he was proactive when it came to things unexpected or little adds. For example, he discovered rodent damage on some of my electrical wires, and he immediately offered to take care of that. Within an hour, he had gone and returned to the local Home Depot with the extra materials to address the issue, and the add-in to the overall cost was again reasonable. He did 99% of the cleanup as well, leaving me with about 5 minutes of work to wipe off some dust after he completed the spackling, sanding, and painting. Marty also doesn't over-book, and he is again up front with what he can and cannot do. I've already discussed another project or two I'd like him to tackle once warmer weather has returned. I only hope he hasn't been swamped with additional work requests based on positive word-of-mouth and word-of-Yelp.

Marty is a true handyman, and a really nice guy…read more We have an apartment that's...old. So it has a few things that always need fixing up. And I'll be honest, the handyman we usually work with was booked up for months. It actually seemed like all the handymen were. (There's a pandemic out there, and apparently everyone's taking the time to fix up their home.) Marty let me know that he was busy too, and that he was taking some time to spend with his family (and you can't begrudge someone being a good family man). But he was willing to do the work when he was free, which is all we could ask. I also appreciate how he operates. He'd prefer to get photos/video of what the problems were so he can give you an accurate estimate before even setting foot in the place (saves everyone time), and so he can show up with all the materials necessary (saves everyone time and money). His website is also pretty comprehensive; it lists all the things he does, who he is, how he works, and shows work he's done. That's how I found him, and I'm glad I did. I also like that he's willing to admit what he can't do (in our case, it was more involved electrical work). Some folks claim they can do anything, and will do a less than ideal job; Marty will just recommend someone who he's worked with and can vouch for. In any case, we had a few odd jobs that needed doing, and once Marty let me know when he was available, he was on time, and efficient. He did quality work. I thought the pricing was fair for his time and labor, and I would hire him again. That's really all you can ask from a handyman.

Breach of contract: buyer beware! I was amazed to read a…read morepositive review about this company! Benny took a $1,000 deposit plus $11,000 for materials for front and back deck in late 2024. The work was to be completed in spring 2025. He said he lost his employees but was soon to hire teachers in spring of 2025. That never happened. He finally completed the front deck by himself, for which we paid almost $6,000 in labor. However the steps were narrower than before and he broke the lights in the front. The back deck has never been completed although we paid a premium ($11,000) for the materials. He said his truck was stolen and left some of his tools in our garage. The tools are still there; the lights are still broken, and we are out over $8,000.00 in materials. I have never written a negative review before. Benny came highly recommended, and we saw his work on our neighbors' deck. Something must have happened to Benny. All I can say is buyer beware.

I am pleased to add my highly positive review to the others that I found online during my search. From my very first contact, Benny's communication was excellent and that continued throughout the project. He was prompt in providing a detailed and fair estimate. He showed up when promised, a courtesy that I have not experienced with other contractors. He was flexible throughout the project as different challenges presented themselves that were not initially anticipated. When the project was completed, I was extremely satisfied with the quality of the work and Benny's follow-up, when necessary. He also offers a guarantee which is reassuring. In short, Benny is an absolute pleasure to work with. His excellent customer service and communication made the entire project easy and stress free. He was respectful of our property, and his attention to detail and the quality of his work was top-notch.

Upon his completion we had issues with the following: - All pex insulators needed to be redrilled in the floor so the wood floors lay flush -broken plastic hangers throughout the house -diverters were not taped off which would have caused water leaking in the walls -the dryer was placed next to my sink instead of my washer; so the order now is sink, dryer, washer He communicated mainly through my husband; but when I did speak to him, he was disrespectful, rude, and spoke over me. After the rest of the siding was delivered to my home and they were about 25% done with the siding he informed me that the vinyl cornerposts were not available to him in the contracted color. As a result alternative materials had to be used which I did not want. Also he promised to show up on more than one occasion and he did not. Damage was done to my driveway from the container, a cable repairman had to be called because of the damage done by the installers and an air conditioner repairman had to be called because the installer put a tarp over it during the removal of the old shingles and it shut down and had to be reset by a technician. Also a rain sensor which wirelessly controlled the underground sprinklers was removed and thrown away even though it was shown to David before the job started and instructed that it must be reinstalled for the system to function properly. There were other more minor issues too. All of these expenses, I was told are my responsibility but you should be aware of the ancillary costs involved with the job due to damages done. Finally, because I did not pay the final installment until the following business day after completion, (I kept getting conflicting stories on when the job would be completed) the owner, David got quite nasty. He basically flipped out and acted in a manner that could not allow me to recommend his company.
