I tried some desserts and aufstrich from Frankowitsch. My favourite dessert had chestnut cream and a piece of chestnut on top of the little cake. I think the cream-filled cakes are probably the best. I also tried a heavier cake that was very dense that I didn't like as much. The cakes I bought ranged from around 4.40 to 4.90 Euro. There are also tiny versions of some of the cakes for ~2.50 Euro if you just want one bite. The Serbischer Aufstrich was fine. The aufstrich is sold by the weight, so you can get more or less depending on what you want. Service is very helpful and friendly. read more

This delicatessen is a real jewel of Graz. Established in 1932 this deli is not only one of the main meeting point of the locals but it is an institution. Here at The Frankowitsch, located right in the UNESCO World Heritage Old Town city center of Graz, the Grazer meet up for seeing friends, reading the papers, having an extended chat, along with super delicious sandwiches, the so called Frankowitsch Brötchen. There is a large variety of this little pieces of divine tasting Brötchen to choose from in the show case. As soon as you made your decision at the corner you can either have a seat inside with its Italian trattoria interior and its many liquors and wine bottles in the vitrines, or you choose to sit outside in the patio located in this little old town street where you can watch the people passing by in this city of Graz with its special Italian-Adriatic atmosphere, though it is still Austria. Since it's a delicatessen the Frankowitsch closes early. So make sure to be there way before 18:00 (06:00) to claim some sandwiches and to be able to choose from. The staff is friendly and swift and willing to help to explain to you what's behind the different sandwish toppings. In Vienna for instance there is the famous Trzesniewski Delicatessen (known for the best sandwiches in town), which - as I experienced - have nice sandwiches for Viennese standards , but they don't come close to this special creamy taste of the Frankowitsch Sandwiches (Brötchen). If you don't know the Frankowitsch Brötchen you might go just fine with the Trzesniewski Brötchen, but as soon as you know both, you probably know what I mean. The difference in taste might come from a secret recipe of the Frankowitsch or simply from more mayonnaise, which derrives from Mallorca by the way. But as always you have to judge for yourself and compare the two with one another. As a Grazer I can tell you there is nothing more local and fancy to experience in town than the Frankowitsch. Frankowitsch is part of my life since I litterarly can think and one of the rare things i really miss, because i am living in vienna now. My grandparents went there befor my parents were even born for having a "pfiff" beer together with 2-3 of the wonderful tasting bread buns (actually they are not buns, but there is no propper english expression for what this is). back that time, the range of bread buns was much smaller than today, so they had just egg bread buns. Today I still have egg bread buns but only because they are just soooo tasty :D additional to them i also love the polnische, ham, tuna and saussage salad. since i don't drink beer i skip the "pfiff" and have a glass of champaign instead. but frankowitsch is not only a place of memories for me, they just have the best bread buns in whole austria! And much other delicacies like special courseware and gourmet food. a couple of years ago they opend the patisserie. Deliciouse. read more

Frankowitsch has been the top location for sandwiches and delicatessen for decades. Their famous "Brötchen" are well known all across Austria. I've been going there since I was a child with my parents and unlike other good restaurants and food places, they've always been keeping up their quality. Their buns are a cross cut, very fluffy and slightly sweetened homemade french baguette that comes with a variety of fillings. Delicious! read more

The best brotchens in town. They have a huge variety that goes very well with a pfiff of bier when you just want to stop by to have a quick lunch with a friend or take a break from shopping in the city. The location is great and you can sit at the tables outside. read more
