The courtyard was made of cobblestone and the green meadow in the background made for a very picturesque scene. One of the large rooms was reserved for dinner and dancing. The room was a pretty decent size holding at least 15 large round tables. There were convenient restrooms and a makeshift coat room. There were actually two wedding receptions happening on the same night, so it's good to know they can accommodate multiple parties. They had a good sound system as the music was blasting! There was also a relatively large parking lot with free parking! They conduct tours (with or without guides) until 5:30pm, but the ticket office closes at 4:30pm. Unfortunately, we arrived after the ticket office had closed. The castle looks like it would be interesting inside, and it would be a quick stopover on the way to somewhere else. Thanks for making the night a charming and memorable wedding reception!

It was wonderful because there was only a few people there and you can basically wander around the castle wherever you want with a book to kind of guide you. There were a couple cool audio rooms that explained more about the castle and lots of fun and games for kids. The castle is very well preserved and I can imagine being even more beautiful in the spring or summer with the mote around it. I had a great stroll around.

The recorded information was in Dutch, German and English. We learned a lot of history and information about the area. This was very well done. There are many other tours you could take but this one fit our schedule. It runs almost every hour starting at 11am in Spring and a Summer.

The main cruising company is Stiphout, who offer a good selection of cruises , ranging from a 20-minute trip up the river to the St. Pietersberg caves to longer trips to Liege or Vise. We took the cruise up to the caves, and found the boat well turned out, with the woodwork highly polished. There's a large, comfortable lounge, in which we had a beer, and in which meals can be served on some cruises. A commentary was given in Dutch, French and English, and the whole thing made for a pleasant experience, at a reasonable price. However, the 'Old Timer' bus tour of Maastricht , also operated by Stiphout was rather disappointing. The bus itself was interesting; either a traditional American school bus, or a very good replica. And, the route took in most of the sights. However, you don't get a very good view out of the bus, especially if you're in one of the aisle seats. The commentary is given only in Dutch. Now, if you don't speak that language, you're given a 'translation sheet' in your chosen language, but that means you spend a lot of time reading, and trying to marry up the sheet with the commentary with the aid of a map that goes with it, rather than looking around. But, the sheet is very informative, and the map a good one although even if you speak Dutch, you can't see much out of the bus. Maybe a 'hop on/hop off' service would be a better experience?

Königsallee is literally "King's Avenue" and it runs for 1000 meters with a lovely landscaped canal between the two sides. Check out the Tritonenbrunnen where it crosses Theodor-Körner-Straße. It's very high end in general, despite the omnipresent H&M. There are several Rolex dealers, Armani, Vuitton and just about every other international luxury brand plus some interesting local boutiques. A big plus is the peaceful canal running town the center of the Allee. Lined with shady plane trees and benches, it's a great place to sip a coffee and come to terms with the consequences of your spending spree. Why 3 stars? Bottom line, 5 stars is the "best" and Koenigsalle is nice without question. But it's not the Champs Elysees, 5th Avenue or even Michigan Avenue in Chicago.
